Located at the southwest corner of Marion Avenue and Wyandotte Street East, the billboard does not mention Hezbollah by name, but features a central image of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the controversial political and military group that represents Lebanese Shia Muslims and has clashed with Israeli troops for more than 20 years.
Kessler said he feels Nasrallah represents "the opposite of peace."
"It should be offensive to all people living in Windsor. It should be offensive not only to the Jewish community, but to any Canadian."
Emile Nabbout, president of the Windsor branch of the Lebanese Christian political group Kataeb, said he also thinks Hezbollah is a terrorist organization, and he feels the billboard creates a misconception of the views of Windsor's Lebanese community.
"We really are not in support or in favour of that billboard and it should be removed ASAP," Nabbout said.
The image of Nasrallah is flanked by four other Lebanese political figures. "All those individuals in that picture... they are in opposition to the Lebanese government right now," Nabbout said.
"By just analyzing the picture, there is no doubt in my mind this is a Hezbollah activity," he added.
Printed in English on the left side of the billboard are the words: "Lebanese and Arab communities in Windsor city congratulate the Lebanese people for their steadfastness and endeavor to establish peace in Lebanon."

This billboard going up in Windsor doesn't surprise me in the least. After all, Windsor is just across the Ambassador Bridge over the Detroit River from Detroitistan and Dearbornistan. Only natural the crazies are going to stream out and infest the surrounding areas.

On principle, I'm against censorship of any kind. I'd rather see this billboard answered with a similiar billboard depecting the stoning of a woman for some sexual indiscretion in an Islamic society. Caption should read, "Islamic justice."
No one could say it was inacurate, a lie, or hate mongering, since stoning is the official mode of punishment in many Islamic societies. It would be nothing more than reporting a fact.
Unfortunately, they can't use our freedoms against because we don't have the freedoms we think we have. When we allowed our government to enact crime laws, we severly limited our freedom. Hate crime laws will always be enforced selectively. Thats' why the Muslim billboard will probably stay up and mine will never see the light of day.

In this day and age, with the amount of information available about world terrorist leaders, I find it appalling that your sales people either were unaware of what the leader of Hezbollah looks like or else recognised his picture and agreed to the sale anyway.
It provides many people around the world with the impression that your company is happy to support those who wish to destroy our way of life, and I am sure there will now be plenty of businesses who would not wish to advertise with you.

As a Canadian I am appalled, although not surprised. We are so PC here that it's almost frightening when one stops to think about it. We are so loathe to offend any minorities, yet when a minority offends us it seems to be just A okay. Why do they call it common sense when it isn't very common? Whomever gave the go ahead to this billboard obviously wasn't blessed with it.

PS. Paint in balloons is a bad idea. Large green or red peppers with paint work better, but don't deface property this way. I always like it when someone humourously modifies signs, rather than just destroys them.
How about adding this banner: "Enslaving Christian Lebanon since 632!" OR "Celebrating Hizbolla's Campaign to convert everyone to Islam, enslave them, or kill them!" Or better, "Sharia Law, Coming to a Canadian Mosque Near You." Oops, that last one might get you thrown in jail for criticizing Muslims.
I would also like to know how the translated Arabic compares to the English writing on the billboard. According to the story, there is only one word that is significantly different. However, we really need to know the context through being able to compare the verbatim texts for each language on the sign. The story is incomplete otherwise.
This is right across the Detroit river where all those pro-Hezballah/Hamas Muslims live, and this is also the same City in Canada where Muslims demanded the Muslim-only Arabic classes funded by Public money in a Public Schoolroom.

Actually hate crime laws preceeded 9/11. They were dangerous to our freedoms when they were first enacted, but they're even more dangerous in the hands of Muslims.
Hate crime laws were never intended to combat hate, they were intended to bludgeon people into thinking thoughts approved by the government.
Also, these laws were never intended to be applied universally to everyone. They were intended to be applied selectively. Hate crimes committed by minorities against the majority are rarely punished because the minority is justified in their hate because they are combating oppression. The majority is not justified, because they're the oppressors.
It's not just Muslims that can use these laws against the rest of us, it's any racial or religious minority, but Muslims will use them most effectively.
You're correct in saying that we we're fools to have allowed these laws to have been enacted in the first place. If we weren't such fools we would have realized that these are not "hate crime" laws, they're "thought crime" laws. Period.
I also live in Windsor. I've written here before about the problems we have living in a Muslim neighbourhood, and this sign is the worst yet. And torquemada, don't hold your breath waiting for Eddie Francis to do something. He did something last summer- he attended the Hizbollah rally in downtown Windsor. He claimed it was a rally in support of the Lebanese people who were being attacked by the Israelis, but when pro-Hizbollah chants began, he stayed. So, that's what we can count on from our mayor.

I figured if my former Southern neighbors (Yeah, I grew up with Canada best viewed to the direct South. I escaped.) had not picked up and moved either the Ambassador Bridge or the tunnel or that Dearborn had subsumed several other cities such as Ecorse that "just across" is not quite accurate. If traffic has gotten worse in Detroit as it has everywhere else the 7 mile trip from the Detroit end of the bridge to Dearborn is a good 15 to 30 minute drive. That's close but not "right across", right?
(It's two miles further from the tunnel mouth - through Downtown Detroit at that.)
It's a shame indeed, jcom972, that my former Southern neighbors had to put up with this. But then, a lot changes in the years since I've been to Detroit. Canadian coins were still sometimes accepted at par with US coins when I formally left Detroit.

It was about 6 years ago I stopped supporting any CAW built cars because I came across a Refugee Centre that the NDP and CAW backed

Just portray the Jews as eveil, bash the USA and Bush, portray Hamas and Hezballah as victims , and back the Taliban as a paeceful benevalent group that uses Shariah law which the Islmophobes just dont understand .
Well I have to admit, I'm stunned that the billboard has been removed. Maybe we do have some common sense here? er, wait, I've probably spoken too soon.....I just read ala's post above.
