Russia continues to embrace the jihad.
"Russia confirms Hamas officials invited to Moscow for talks," by Avi Issacharoff for Haaretz:
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said his country is holding talks with Hamas in order find solutions for the conflict in the Middle East, Israel Radio reported on Saturday."It's important to hold such talks and countries that do not do so are wrong," he was quoted as saying.
Hamas lawmaker Halil al-Haya on Thursday claimed, however, that Russia had invited officials from the Islamic group to visit Moscow for talks.
Al-Haya told a Hamas-affiliated Palestinian magazine that the Russian government had officially invited a Hamas delegation, headed by Damascus-based Hamas political leader Khaled Meshal, to Moscow. Al-Haya would not specify the date, but said the visit would be in the coming days.
Being that Russia is building the Iranian nuke plant and is arming Iran as well as Syria, it is only natural that Hamas would be a welcome houseguest.
A Lavrov quote at Interfax goes one step further:
"Moscow confident of the need to continue contacts with Hamas and deems it a mistake that some countries have not recognized Palestinian National Unity Government"
Talking to Hamas is not enough. Recognition is required as well.

The North Ossetians must be thrilled about this (not that Putin cares what the Ossetians think).
Putin and the Russians are basically right now doing anything entirely opposite of what the EU and USA want to do. It's the USSR all over again. I hope Putin realizes that he'll be outnumbered by Muslims in his own country before the US will.
The truth is the Russians are just looking for another weapons customer! They will tell hamas 1/2 with order balance c.o.d. and anything can be yours!
Recent Russian adventurism (e.g. this assistance to Iran and Hamas, and their flag planting at depth at the North Pole, in order to grab potential oil and natural gas in the Arctic Basin) has been advanced by their self-perceived and actual and future economic strength from their hydrocarbon reserves.
Here is another reason for our foolish "leaders" in the current US administration, to encourage and develop energy independence from oil.
Perhaps this adventurism will be more resonant, than the worldwide muslim jihad -- which should be more than enough, as a reason to develop real energy independence.
Or maybe not.
I hope that some of the current crop of Presidential candidates are paying attention.
unless the Russian spetsnaz were gonna do a "god father" style slaughter of high ranking Hamas leaders in Russia, I fail to see why Russia wants to deal with an organisation which has major links with chechnya muslim rebels? This is like inviting a mass murderer into your home in the hope that talk will calm him down.
Unless there are other sinister motives at work here, which I suspect.

Probably the best effect from the Communists being on power for over 70 years is that it crushed religious beliefs out of its Muslim population. However, that of course is changing with foreign Mullahs coming, money from the Middle East for Mosques and Madrassas, and Russia accepting thousands of foreign Muslim students (all virtually males) to study. I met one and talked to one from Hamas.
Many posting on this site have expressed the thought that Russia is a valuable ally against Jihad, and that we should tolerate all sorts of anti-democratic behavior for thie good of this "alliance."
The correlation and causation is actually the opposite. The more anti-democratic Russia becomes, the more it will opportunistically aid the forces of Jihad.
