Note that the "Fatah-allied Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades" claims involvement: they have evidently long ago given up worrying that they can do anything that will lead people in the State Department to begin thinking that they aren't actually peace-loving moderates. Also, this, along with the Syria incident, suggest that something serious is brewing.
"Militants claim attack on Israeli post," from The Associated Press (thanks to Mackie):
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Palestinian militants said fighters in a pickup truck and jeep crashed through a fence on the Gaza-Israel border on Thursday and attacked an Israeli army post.Fierce clashes with troops broke out, the militants said....
The Islamic Jihad and Fatah-allied Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades claimed responsibility for attacking a post in southern Israel opposite central Gaza.
A spokesman for Islamic Jihad, Abu Ahmed, said a pickup truck driven by militants crashed through the fence in central Gaza, allowing an armored jeep to drive through. The truck blew up inside the base and militants inside the jeep began attacking soldiers with light arms and hand grenades, the statement said.
In the course of the clashes, an Israeli watchtower was blown up, it added.
Yawn.
A good jihadi is a dead one, so the Israelis might look upon the intrusion as an opportunity.
Besides, if they insist on leaving Gaza (which they all should do), they should be going to Jordan.
Or is the welfare money from the Euroscum just too sweet ?
Here is the story from Y-Net News:
"IDF thwarts attack on outpost: 5 Palestinians killed
Military sources say gunmen arrived at Kissufim border crossing in two vehicles intending to carry out attack. IAF, ground forces strike cars, killing five. Palestinians confirm attack attempt"

Ah yes, another step in the peaceful process of building the nation of palestine.
If these losers would expend half as much energy into nation building as they do in jihadism they might actually have themselves a somewhat decent nation to live in. But Illah forbid that should happen!
But... But...
Doesn't "Islamic Jihad" really mean "peaceful inner struggle" ? It's just a "Peace Process"!
I am f-ing sick and tired of everyone referring to "the Fatah-allied Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades". These people are Fatah, pure and simple. When the American army attacks a target, nobody ever talks about "The United States Army, which is associated with America." They say "America attacked such-and-such."
Just who exactly do they think is running the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades? It's not like the Brigades make decisions independent of Fatah. Fatah is as moderate as its actions, which is to say, not at all.
Who cares what they do down in Gaza, this is just an exercise in ego boosting, they are nicely caged in and they cannot do any real harm. It is the Syrian fly over that got my attention very quickly. It could have had several aims when you look at it and none of them bode well for the future.
1)they were testing out the Syrian air defence system. If I remember correctly Syria has received some new air defence missiles from Russia. Check the Syrian Radar to see that it has not moved hopefully get the Syrians to switch on there air defence radar so they can pin point it for later.
2)They have done a mock attack on a Syrian position to show them what they can do, most likely not, Syria would get the message just by there ability to fly through there air space.
3)They have attacked a Syrian position because they know something. The Syrian report said that they drop some ammunition.
Anyway the Israelis must know something that we don't know and sent a message loud and clear to Syria to be very careful.
Dansker: Who cares what they do down in Gaza? How about the petrified children who leave for school each morning not knowing if they will get there without being blown to bits by a Kassam missile? Or how about their parents? How about Israelis all over Israel that have to worry that some of these Fatah or Hamas fighters will infiltrate Israel and blow up the bus they are on? I bet THEY care quite a bit. Although Israel's leaders (using the term loosely) refuse to admit it, if it looks like a war, sounds like a war and acts like a war, it is a war!
The Syria flyover, I am sure is routine. For tiny Israel, accurate intelligence is essential for survival. You wouldn't want to defend New Jersey from New York without knowing what's going on in Staten Island. What is not routine is Syria puffing its chest and firing on Israeli aircraft. This is clearly the result of the new Defense Minister, Barak's (likely the next Prime Minister, unfortunately) efforts to prove to Syria that Israel is not a threat to them. He prevented Israelis from getting their refitted gas masks and relocated IDF troops training in the Golan down to the Negev, both to avoid "worrying" Syria. What a dope. The only thing keeping Syria from attempting to take the Golan by force is the very "worry" that Barak is diffusing. He is actually encouring Syria to renew hostilities not only in Lebanon, via Iran's client army Hizbollah, but on the Golan Hieghts as well.

I was looking at it of where is the greatest threat, and it certainly isn't in Gaza, to put it quiet bluntly they are penned in and if there was a general conflagration in the middle east it would be like shooting fish in a barrel something I most certainly do not and I will emphasis do not want to see. Please don't give me the petrified children line. There will certainly be a hell of a lot more petrified children if Syria or Hezbullah, get longer range rocket, which I gather is what they are doing. There was also lots of petrified children in Beslan two years ago, it is not just an Israeli problem. Emotional appeals like that are well below the belt. I have children of my own and I worry about there future same as you do especially if you live in Israel. I can assure you it wasn't a callous remark. It just wasn't P.C.
Now to answer you other remarks, are you sure it is routine, I am not so sure, Israel has its own satellites, they have there own launch capability. They will most likely have Syria mapped out to the last square foot they will certainly share intelligence with the American. Why not a Drone? It must have been some other reason to risk five planes and most likely 10 airman flying over Syria at supersonic speed. The only reason I can think of is to test the defenses possible because this is one of the the three routes Israel could chose from if it decided that it was necessary to bomb the Iranian nuclear facilities. You also have another swing at the cowardly government for sending them to the Negev to do there training. I know if I was in charge I know I certainly would, you can bring them back quick enough. Last year if I remember correctly the IDF had a few problems military speaking. The resistance was much tougher than expected they lost a few tanks. I would expect that the IDF have come up with some new tactics. What better place to practice them than in the Negev well away from the prying eyes of the Syrian, you don't want them to work out a counter measures do you, and there are still plenty of hill in the Negev if my memory serves me correctly. The gas masks that is something I don't know about, but what I do know about is that to reequip armies with new equipment is a long slow process, even with modified equipment. This for me is a reasonable reason for the delay. I can certainly understand the way you feel, but what you might seem as a betrayal could be in fact sensible precautions.
What kind of shit-weed has AP been smoking to print this bullshit?? There can never be any 'peace' with any Arabs and Israel. So Israel needs to quit trying to negotiate a peace with people sworn to kill the Jews. They really should annex the West bank ( Judea and Samaria- the home of Jews for 2-3000 years) and the Golan heights. The Arabs have plenty of land already, they really do not need any of the West bank at all.
