1938 Alert. By Uzi Mahnaimi and Sarah Baxter for the Sunday Times (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):
Israeli commandos seized nuclear material of North Korean origin during a daring raid on a secret military site in Syria before Israel bombed it this month, according to informed sources in Washington and Jerusalem. The attack was launched with American approval on September 6 after Washington was shown evidence the material was nuclear related, the well-placed sources say.
They confirmed that samples taken from Syria for testing had been identified as North Korean. This raised fears that Syria might have joined North Korea and Iran in seeking to acquire nuclear weapons.
It is amazing the number of responces at the Times who dismissed this report and others so out of hand.
This would have been quite the operation to conduct.
Getting close enough to acquire Isotope samples. Having them tested to confirm where they were produced. Getting our permissiom(?). then conducting the operation without (known) Casualties. Claims of a suscessful operation.
If the Israelis' could acquire samples while the Material was in containment. Can you Immagine the Signature this material is making now?
Normaly the Middle East would be up in arms over an Israeli strike upon an Arab Country. Syria has been somewhat bellicose about it's desires conserning Israel. We hear but a wimper, if that.
How much longer befor the Cat rips the Bag open?
Their silence implies guilt.
What is amazing to me is that Israel had to get the nuclear material, shove it bush and condi's noses, and only then did they get "permission" to act in their own interests of national survival.
If they could not have physically obtained the materials, I suppose some Israeli city would be nuclear ashes and condi and bush would have said that they had no evidence that anything happened -- which is exactly what they will do when a US city get nuked.
Truly, a sad story!
....things get better and more interesting every day.....and the dhimmicrats and moveon.org times don't have a clue.....
For every action there is a reaction - I wonder what Iran's response to this is? I imagine they will increase security around their sites even more (if that's possible). Conclusion - similar strike on Iran should be made as soon as possible, if not immediately, since as more time passes the difficulty and cost of such a raid (already great to the point of causing hesitation it seems) will only increase.
1938 Alert? We didn't intercept Nazi shipments of nuclear material back then, thank goodness. We're in a whole new ballgame here.
Also, I was wondering about what kind of radioactive mess would have been created if Israel had bombed a Syrian stockpile of nuclear material. That would have conceiveably rendered large parts of Syria uninhabitable, and created a health hazard for many Syrians. But no, the Israelis, at risk to their own soldiers' lives, removed the nuclear material first.
Well, now we know what Kim (mentali) Il has been doing with his nuke material while we are patting him on the head and giving him food and money.
I'm shocked that he would do this to us.

Well, well, this story ( which I first saw here at JW a few days ago, while the Obsolete Media was too busy talking about the uxoricidal buffoon O.J. Simpson ) gets more interesting. Bless the Israelis for acting like ....... Israelis!
Let me once again suggest that what we may have here is not nuclear explosives, but rather, dirty bomb material. Everyone knows ( except those idiot UN peacekeepers ) that Iran and Syria have been rearming the lunatic Hezbollah ultra-thugs with more missles for another missle war against Israel. The last time around, the conventional high explosives did not kill enough unarmed innocent women and children, so I suspect that the ultra-violent Mahometan thugs are planning to use dirty bomb warheads this time around. If this is true, it would also suggest that all of us may now be subject to dirty bomb terrorist attacks anywhere in the West.
Just another way in which the Religion of Peace has "improved" our lives!
"Everyone knows ( except those idiot UN peacekeepers ) that Iran and Syria have been rearming the lunatic Hezbollah ultra-thugs with more missles for another missle war against Israel."
I am guessing that the UN peacekeepers do know and are intentionally turning a blind eye except to wink.
The silence is deafening...
to speak of it shoots down not only everything the axis have concealed to date for the past several years, but philosophically NUKES every one of the talking points their 5th column lackeys in the west have aided and abetted with literally overnight.
Worse yet for them...the bombing operation also was successful when all that brand-spankin'-new syrian "radar" system garbage they bought from the russians was "jammed" (read that as FRIED OUT)- syria took over a dayto get it back online, and their own respective sock-puppets of hezbollah didn't get theirs back up for days...another successful hint the pantsyr isn't this superior system it was cracked up to be...here's a hint- the Israelis weren't the ones who fried it out- they had help (that's one fear factor of the syrians), and the strike intel was helped by yet another outside source...another fear factor plaguing the syrians-and they ARE FREAKED, just like their fellow "axis-of-evil" members
(you know, the very same "axis of evil" members with which Bush was relentlessly excoriated for(?) and is now proven RIGHT beyond ANY shadow of ANY doubt) gee...also no wonder the MSM is eereily silent on that part-they have a LOT of egg on their faces today. LOL
Al-asshat's family is split over what kind of response there should be, and their ally iran is a LOT more freaked out over the probability of getting their asses bombed than they let on (one major reason they are censoring much of the internet)-but too little, too late...secret's out, and they... are... TERRIFIED...it's "panic-squared" (according to one high ranking Indian general during a military exchange, who was aghast at the frantic questions put to him over what the US and/or Israel may do).
Even more frantic (and prone to mistakes the more frantic they get), their desperate efforts to find out about "Checkmate"...and they haven't a clue what's being arrayed.
Reminds me of the scene in "Schindler's List" on the definition of "Power"...how well it fits here.
Hey munchkins...it's YOUR turn to be afraid now!
"Who Dares Wins"
It most certainly was quite an operation and a reminder that the Sayeret Matkal under Barak is back in business and ready to win.
My only issue with the evidence so far is lack of
it... I don't think we're getting the whole picture by far, or you would see an extensive re-posturing by the US in regards to NK, seriously, this was, if it turns out to be true, this is what Bush was threatening to go to war about.
Some have postulated the event is a triggering raid to get the US more involved.
The sample matchup was most certainly assisted with US help, via the RC-135 flyovers/air sniffers from NK's last nuke testing period. The US has obviously helped here, as the US is the best country to confirm the origin of whatever material they have.
I would imagine the Israeli's would have had to wear Syrian uniforms, etc, to steal the material, and I wonder if Barak's appointment in June was directly related to this raid?

"if...true" is no longer applicable, nor debatable...
http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/WTARC/2007/ea_nkorea_09_17.asp
...nor is "if" applicable to the now-long-documented, and long-excoriated-by-the-sorosistas "axis of evil".
I'm noticing the "bumper sticker" mouthpieces have been eerily silent about it, too...TOO quiet.
Uzi Mahnaimi is known for his dubiously-sourced, sensationalist articles on Israel and on America's plans for invading Iran. Prior to this article, he said that an invation of Gaza was going to happen within "weeks" of Ehud Barak becoming Defense Minister. A force of 20,000 soldiers was chomping at the bit, he said.
That article came out on June 17th.
Take his articles with many grains of salt.
Yes, all info/intel should be scrutinized...and for good reason...
can't speak for him but intel on this end is pretty reliable as it's passed scrutiny.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who scrutinizes info sources.
...hey, all this nuclear material is really just electrical components for the new Iranian power plants...you know, the ones being built without a power grid system or power poles or power lines or planned electric bill statements....
...doesn,t everyone build there power plants underground?....
FINALLY!
Someone gets it!
Kudos, sgt...^5s
