Ya know, sad to say, unless we get real...I mean REALLY real, about effective deterrence, this "war" is like the "war on drugs"...window dressing.
Civilians who war against a nation, not in recognized military uniform of a recognized nation, are considered spies, saboteurs, and are eligible to be shot on the spot...and that is according to the very same "geneva convention" that they love to hide behind (yet don't give a rat's ass about when they have the upper hand).
It's not a palatable thought, and it's not a very popular idea...but this window dressing like a mere prison term at camp cupcake (compared to the prisons in their home/ancestral countries, which are horrific, it IS just that) is a waste of time and effort.
The only good point of this is the fact that it infuriates ever more so the ire of civilized society, long term, and will come back in time to bite the jihadists in the ass in the worst way imaginable.

I vote for Islamo-Realism. "Phobia" is not what's going on regarding Islam. The Islamists DO, in reality, want to kill us; they HAVE, in reality, attacked and killed civilians without discrimination (and additionally have launched many attempts that were providentially foiled) here in our homelands, in the "civilized West". If the Hassans or Mohammeds or Ahmeds or Mansours of the world are looked upon with some skepticism here in the West, it's not due to "phobia" (=unreasoning fear). Try "conditioned fear" instead. One could argue that the jihadists are inoculating us Westerners against accepting Islam in any form. (Ordinary Western civilians, at any rate. Western leaders for some reason delight in the opportunity to show how much they loooove "diversity", no matter how many of their civilians are blown to bits by this particularly non-diverse lot of Mohammed's devout followers.)

And in the comments, someone had the notion that WE should not kill innocents (avoid all "collateral damage") because THEY will seek revenge; no mention of THEM (the jihadists) actually *TARGETING* innocents, no thought that perhaps OUR civilians would be a tad bit upset with Islamists for trying to kill us and those we love.
There was a whole lot of double-think in that article: what the West should not do, no never! and yet absolutely no attempt at establishing any moral constraints on the actions of the uncivilized "Other".
