And so it begins. By Nebi Qena for Associated Press (thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist):
SRBICA, Serbia - Three students were suspended from school in Kosovo this week for wearing Muslim headscarves, reflecting a debate that is echoing across Europe and complicating the province's quest for independence. The argument over whether secular society should trump religious rights is similar to those taking place in France, Turkey, Britain and elsewhere.
But some in the breakaway Serb province fear its bid for statehood could suffer if Kosovo is perceived as overly Islamic.
"Not only does religion damage the quest for independence, it damages our entire concept," said Rexhep Ismajli, the head of Kosovo's Academy of Science, a body that includes the province's leading thinkers. "It damages Kosovo's society, it damages our vision."
Your vision, maybe, Rexhep, but not that of many of your fellow Kosovars.
Fatmire Jashari, 18, was suspended from her high school in the central Kosovar town of Srbica — a former stronghold of the now-disbanded Kosovo Liberation Army, the guerrilla group that fought Serb forces in the 1998-1999 war."I hope I won't be pushed to choose between the two," she said. "But if I am, I will choose the headscarf."
Read it all.
Bill Clinton's shame. What history will remember him for, just as history will remember Carter for enabling the rise of the Islamic regime in Iran.
And don't go thinking Bush is all that better. Ask any non-Muslim in Iraq.
'Fatmire Jashari, 18, was suspended from her high school in the central Kosovar town of Srbica...
"I hope I won't be pushed to choose between the two," she said. "But if I am, I will choose the headscarf."'
Two questions:
1) Who put her up to this?
2) Why does she need school anyway since choosing the scarf means choosing a non-life behind her a)father's b)husband's or c) brother's locked doors?
Bill Clinton foisted upon the Haitians the commie Bertrand Aristide...who proceeded to "necklace" his ennemis, à la Mandelaise. Where Papa Doc had his TonTon Macoutes, the Aristidiens gave us Les Chimières. Carter gave us Mugabe and Famine in a Bread Basket, AND The Ayatollah Follies. These are grifters who keep on grifting.
What do you mean "And so it begins"? These girls were just wearing their hijab's because they're religious. It's not like they're trying to enforce it on everybody.

Greetings:
And now for something completely not different.
"What alternatives do you suggest for French Muslim girls going to school? What should they do?"
"What alternatives do you suggest for French Muslim girls going to school? What should they do? Answer: Wa `alaykum As-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger. Dear questioner, we would like to thank you for the great confidence you place in us, and we implore Allah Almighty to help us serve His cause and render our work for His Sake. First of all, we would like to stress that Muslims in France should try their best to pressure public opinion to change the law that banned hijab in schools. They should consider that banning of hijab is a challenge to their identity in that country. Whatever steps they take, they should apply wisdom in their approach, as resorting to stern measures is not a viable solution. In his response to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states: ?Muslims in France are facing trials in their religion; their case is in many ways comparable to what the prophets of Allah faced in their own times. They should therefore continue the struggle by remaining steadfast to the principles and trusting that victory ultimately belongs to those who are truly conscious of Allah. In case life becomes unbearable under the new laws, Muslim women are allowed to use the best possible alternatives available to them. If wearing a bandana is the only option, they are allowed to do that, for it fulfills some requirements of hijab, while keeping in mind that it is not a full substitute for hijab, since it does not cover the neck. But until such time that the pressure is off, they are allowed to wear it to school or other places where hijab is banned. While resorting to this option, they should also do the following: 1. Never acquiesce in taking off hijab nor relish it, for doing so is akin to rejoicing in disobeying Allah. 2. Exert pressure on the government by using all constitutional and legal means to get the unjust law changed. 3. Keep the issue alive in the media. 4. Forge alliances with all peace-loving and democratic elements in France and outside to cooperate on fighting for human rights. 5. Unify the community on beneficial goals and projects that are relevant to the time and place, and thus project a common front. 6. Pray to Allah to help us remain steadfast in our struggle for truth and justice and to grant victory in all our endeavors. If you are still in need of more information, don't hesitate to contact us. Do keep in touch. May Allah guide us all to the straight path! Allah Almighty knows best"

Costumes that assert intolerance cannot be tolerated.
A puzzling choice of words. For the title we get the ridiculous "Kosovar" which is used by the Kosovo Albanians who want independence, yet we have the Serb spelling for the municipality, Srbica. The KLA, etc, would say "Skenderaj". This is the sort of poorly written articles we expect Yahoo to print.
A bit of gumpf: Srbica is situated in the Drenica valley, a large area in central Kosovo. After WW2, the Fascist collaborators, called Balija ( sp ) by the Serbs, were holed up there, and there was very heavy fighting with Yugoslav troops for several years. A section of the KLA were NeoNazis and fought for the memory SS 21st Division - which was almost entirely made up of Kosovo Albanians. Many if not most of the WW2 statues, immortalising the Partisans were destroyed once NATO/KLA took over Kosovo. Schools have recently been renamed after those WW2 Fascists.
I think that Thaqi - head of the KLA - is from that area, though he's a Maoist, not a NeoNazi
Lies, damned lies and MSM reporting about Kosovo.
There was some wonderfully incompetent reporting in Kosovo in 98 and particularly 99.
For example, in February , 99, the KLA got about 50,000 Kosovo Albanians to gather in a field in the village of Resnik, municipality of Vucitrn, and told them to pretend to be displaced villagers fleeing from the evil Serb killing machine - patent pending.
The MSM duly took snaps of the huddled masses then left pretty pronto. As did all the villagers, who went back to their houses. The next day the area was completely deserted, save for a couple of farmers who explained that the whole thing had been staged by the KLA.
Even Sadako Ogata - of the UNHCR - fell for it: she'd visited the group of faux refugees, giving out hope and encouragement, no doubt.
She'd been fooled. The MSM had been fooled. The world had been fooled.
This complete failure of the MSM to do even a small bit of research, which would have revealed this for the shameless ploy it was, is very worrying. Very very worrying.
And not one iota has been learned by the hacks. Or by the readers or viewers.
We're all still as big a bunch of schmucks as in 99
Today, Kosovo, tomorrow a suburb near you
