These are the people to whom Hamid Karzai is extending a hand of reconciliation.
"Taliban unveils hardline Afghan constitution," by Isambard Wilkinson and Ashraf Ali in the Telegraph (thanks to all who sent this in):
The Taliban has published a shadow Afghan constitution outlining an alternative hardline government to that of President Hamid Karzai. The 23-page document envisages a country where women would remain veiled and uneducated, "un-Islamic thought" would be banned and human rights would be ignored if "contrary with the teachings of Islam".
The Constitution of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, comes days after the Defence Secretary, Des Browne, said that the Taliban will need to take a role in the peace process in Afghanistan.
On freedom of speech the Taliban charter, which is written in Pashto and Dari, is clear: "Every Afghan has the right to express his feelings through his views, writings or through other means in accordance with the law."
However "un-Islamic thought" is strictly forbidden and "violators will be punished according to sharia" - under the Taliban's strict interpretation of Islamic teachings.
In reality, of course, the Sharia is not an invention of the Taliban.
What's the expression? Oh, yes.........it's like leaving the fox in charge of the chicken coop.
"The Taliban has published a shadow Afghan constitution outlining an alternative hardline government to that of President Hamid Karzai."
But is it a living constitution, like [judges say that] ours is?
SInce the taliban was the only truely Islamic government on earth, we get a peak at the future.
Every Afghan has the right to express his feelings through his views, writings or through other means in accordance with the law."
However "un-Islamic thought" is strictly forbidden.
just as in other islamic hell holes. thoughts of democracy, equality, human rights will be strictly forbidden because they are not islamic. in other words thyey will never be happy until they get the old pre 9/11 taliban afganistan back.
The first articles of the Afghan constitution:
Article One
Afghanistan shall be an Islamic Republic, independent, unitary and indivisible state.
Article Two
The sacred religion of Islam is the religion of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Followers of other faiths shall be free within the bounds of law in the exercise and performance of their religious rituals.
Article Three
No law shall contravene the tenets and provisions of the holy religion of Islam in Afghanistan.
Q. What is the difference between what the Taliban offer and the existing constitution?
A. There is none, except the Taliban's is more specific. Goals of both are the same.
From article: The sacred religion of Islam is the religion of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Followers of other faiths shall be free within the bounds of law in the exercise and performance of their religious rituals.
Double talk...bounds of what law? Oh of course Sharia...That means they are not free at all...
"Un-Islamic thought." Now I've heard everything.
Orwell did not take Muslims into account. Therefore, his dystopic writings take on a more positive hue. Wow, that's sad.
Oh, those innovative Talibanians...inventing the thought reading machine. They're so smart. ;-)
Sounds similar to the liberal-Dem-party notion of Free Speech, which runs as follows:
We definitely absolutely support freedom of speech and expression – with, of course, important restrictions on topics of race, religion & politics that might hurt feelings of certain minorities or make some people mad or not give equal talk radio time to Democratic Party positions.
However "un-Islamic thought" is strictly forbidden. . . .

That pretty much leaves out all thinking, since "islamic thought" is a contradiction in terms. Islam involves no thought, just belief and obedience, and no one who is capable of thought can believe in islam.
We in the United State have come dangeriously close to implementing Taliban-style laws in our own country, except that instead of outlawing unIslamic thought, we outlaw thoughts deemed offensive by the politically correct power structure in the country.
They are called hate crime laws.
If only the British had found some way to share power with the Nazis and Moussolini, then all of that terrible fuss could have been avoided. Mr Karzai needs to wake up and smell the opium.
It seems that standing on principle in these difficult times is an act in violation of liberal non-discrimination and "winning the peace". How much of such a false ideology can the world stand?
"We in the United State have come dangeriously close to implementing Taliban-style laws in our own country, except that instead of outlawing unIslamic thought, we outlaw thoughts deemed offensive by the politically correct power structure in the country."
You bet! Like when MoveOn ran the dumb ad playing on the pun Petraeus/Betray Us the House of Representatives and Senate rushed through resolutions attacking the group. So bad-mouthing a general (with lots of pretty ribbons) is politically incorrect...so long as they support the Leader.
Back to the Taliban.
Let's all think un-Islamic thoughts at once to overload their thought-detectors!
I confess, I just had an un-Islamic thought, where do I turn myself in? I looked in the phone book for the nearest Taliban official, but there are none listed. When you turn yourself in to the Taliban, do you bring your own drill, or do they provide that?
Along with banning un-Islamic thought, why not ban un-Islamic dress, music, art, marriage, justice, food, etc. etc.?
(Oh wait...that's already in effect with the Taliban.)

Q. What is the difference between what the Taliban offer and the existing constitution?
A. There is none, except the Taliban's is more specific. Goals of both are the same.
Right. So what the hell are we doing in Afghanistan? There is absolutely no point being there. The Afghan people are choosing between 2 brands of Islam, both Islam. It makes no sense to have any Western soldiers defending one brand of Islam against another. The Brands of Islam have more in common with each other than Western thought and Western values. It is not worth one Western soldiers life or even being maimed or the loss of a limb.
We should get out. And if Afghani women immolate themselves (yeah I would wish it was different, curse Islam) that is tough. It is one more woman that is no longer a Muslim factory.
WE have to make progress enlightening liberal Westerners as to what will come our way.
Getting rid of Muslims is a must as exSgtBrown says.
Karzai commits political suicide before our eyes, and lays the groundwork for his own imminent demise.
Marvelous.
"a country where women would remain veiled and uneducated, "un-Islamic thought" would be banned and human rights would be ignored if "contrary with the teachings of Islam"."
Actually, I like their honesty. Know thy enemy. I just can't understand why so many westerners ignore these clearly stated jihadist aims.
Clearly Bush and co. had no idea what to do in Afghanistan to further our aims.
Having failed to look at the post-WW II history of de-Nazification, they did not have the brains or will to implement de-Islamification.
And, by failing to prevent an Islamic state, they destroyed the entire point of this enterprise.
Iraq is just more of the same, only worse.
The braindead leading the sleepwalking.
Abyss follows.
Islam, it.
Come on.
It's hilarious.
And how many Western troops gave their lives, and how much money has been spent so far in Afghanistan?
And the end result of all that blood sweat and tears is....opens enveolope nervously......quote "The Constitution of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, comes days after the Defence Secretary, Des Browne, said that the Taliban will need to take a role in the peace process in Afghanistan." unquote
Yup. Money and lives well spent. NATO bombed the Bosnian Serbs and later Yugoslavia because they stood up to Al Qaeda linked terror, so this isn't really all that surprising.
The Taliban and NATO will probably get on quite well.
If Afghanistan returns to the Taliban way of life, what was the point of our boys dying there in the first place?
Just to protect the oil pipelines????
