Maybe they tried to open a door. Maybe they had a knife. "Syrians detained on Panama-bound plane," by Juan Zamorano for Associated Press (thanks to Louis):
PANAMA CITY, Panama - Six Syrians were detained in Panama on Tuesday after the crew on their flight from Cuba alerted authorities to suspicious behavior. An aviation official denied police reports that the Syrians tried to open the cockpit door."This is not a hijacking," said Victor de la Hoz, spokesman for the Panamanian Civil Aviation Authority.
Panama's National Police director, Rolando Mirones, said earlier that the passengers approached the cockpit "apparently with the intention of opening a door."
But de la Hoz said the Copa Airlines crew simply notified authorities on the ground that a knife was missing after they served the meal in the first-class cabin, where the Syrians were sitting. He did not say whether the Syrians were suspected of taking the knife.
Mirones said the suspects "did not commit any violent acts inside the airplane, but they raised suspicions," adding: "That is why we are investigating."
dummy run. panama canal.
wake up people!!!
All future meals will be served through a straw.
Flight originating in Cuba.. Syrians in First Class... hmmm....
On a side note can i get opproval for my comment on DW too.
Ya noticed that, too, Allafan'...lol
Drug runners...cuba's been a drug relay point since castro's been in power.
Dry run is probaly an apt observation.
Mentioned in that article is the word (Captive).
Indeed Muslims were capturing white slaves from Southern Europe over many hundreds of years.
COULD THIS BE ANOTHER CASE ?

'Stop the car, there's Madeleine': Witness sees her dragged by Muslim woman
Madeleine McCann: 'Spotted holding hands with a Muslim woman'
A Spanish mother told today how she is convinced she saw Madeleine McCann being dragged across a street in Morocco.
The potential witness believes she spotted the missing girl with a woman in a headscarf crossing a road in the northern town of Zaio in May.
She said she told her husband to stop the car. "I shouted 'Stop! It's Madeleine, the missing girl.' But by the time we pulled over and ran back to where she had crossed, they had both vanished."
Two people have previously reported seeing a girl who looked just like Madeleine in Marrakech six days after she disappeared while on holiday with her family on 3 May.
The woman who made the latest sighting also gave a description of a couple - a blonde woman with a man with black hair and dark skin who was aged around 45 - which matched that given by the two earlier witnesses.
The claim came as Gerry McCann spoke of his feeling of "encouragement" at a renewed focus on the hunt for his daughter and police in Leicestershire said there is not sufficient evidence to charge him or his wife Kate.
The new sighting in the town of Zaio was reported to Portuguese and Spanish police. The woman says she was told that Madeleine was presumed to be dead.
The woman, who does not want to be named, said she went to her local paper when she learned of the other Morocco sightings.
She said: "I'm sure I saw her as I have the image of the girl imprinted on my mind. I saw a Muslim woman holding a girl by the hand.
"The girl was wearing a skirt and short-sleeved top, with hat on and her hair tied up. A gust of wind blew up the hat and I saw that it was Madeleine McCann."
The first sighting in Morocco came from a British tourist who contacted police to say he saw a "lost-looking" young girl at a petrol station in Marrakesh.
His testimony was similar to that of Norwegian tourist Marie Pollard who claimed she was "100 per cent convinced" she saw Madeleine at the same spot. Moroccan authorities took almost a month to examine the CCTV footage from the petrol station, by which time they found it had been erased.
The Spanish woman, from Malilla, on the northern coast of Morocco, said she was driving with her husband in their 4x4 when the incident happened.
She said by the time she persuaded her husband to turn the vehicle around, the Muslim woman and girl had disappeared.
She added: "We went looking and asking in the town, and by chance we saw a blonde woman with a man with black hair, dark skin, around 45 years old and 1.7metres (5ft 5ins) tall.
"Those are the same descriptions offered by the British and Norwegian people who reported seeing the girl in Marrakech."
The woman, who would not be named said she reported the incident to the Nacional Police in Melilla and to police in Portugal. She said: "They told me the investigation was heading in a different direction." She added they told her they believed Madeleine was already dead.
Her revelations are certain to be studied by the McCanns' legal team, and private-investigators who they have engaged. The McCanns, both aged 39, returned home to Rothley in Leicestershire two weeks ago with their twoyearold twins Sean and Amelie.
Today Mr McCann said he and his wife Kate have not given up hope of finding their daughter Madeleine alive.
The 39-year-old consultant cardiologist said they are "encouraged" that the state prosector in Portugal is keeping all "lines of inquiry open" in their case.
MAKES ME WONDER IF THE PORTUGUESE POLICE NEED EDUCATING ON THE HISTORY OF MUSLIMS TAKING SLAVES AND THE FACT THAT IN THE CURRENT CLIMATE THAT COULD BE WHAT HAS HAPPENED!
ROBERT - MAYBE A WELL TARGETED EMAIL CAMPAIGN TO FORCE THE PORTUGUESE POLICE TO TAKE THESE SIGHTINGS SERIOUSLY WOULD BE IN ORDER !!!
Thanks to Dhimmi Carter (and Prince Bandar Bush), the U.S. is no longer the owner of the Panama Canal. Would an attack on that convenience now be an attack on China?
They don't dry run against allies in their cause.

I think the Portuguese police may be in on it. They've been mishandling the case from Day One.
What better way to get the parents to go away and drop it than to accuse them in the press so they'll be running a constant gauntlet for as long as they remain in Portugal?
This makes me wonder what really happened to Natalee Holloway..
...did they have one way tickets?...
....i agree...dry run....
Dry runs or nuisance runs? I think there has been a spate of "nuisance" runs in the last year. The purpose is to harrass and disturb the smooth running of the air travel system. It is a form of economic Jihad.
We will see more and more of this. The perpetrators cannot or will not be charged with any offence, but the damage will continue to be done.
There is but one way to stop this Jihad nonsense for good, and that is to admit that Muslims and we cannot live alongside, as it is damaging to everyone. Best to live apart then continue with this charade.
terror probe.
They'll report back to the planners about how the knife was spirited away, what didn't work in trying to gain access to the cockpit, and what they haven't tried yet that needs checking out. They will monitor the response of the airline and security authorities. If too much suspicion gets cast on the perpetrators they'll make a media circus about islamophobia and racial profiling.
Maybe we should monitor them.

the panama canal. a strategic shipping area of the US. panama is a massive ally of the USA.
if they disrupt this area then it will create all types of problems for international shipping. billions of $$ would be lost.
Sounds like a dry run to me. I wouldn't make light of this people. When one thing works for Al Qaeda, they will try using airplanes again. It would be much easier to hijack planes in third world countries close to our border to ram into buildings here, rather than hijack our own airlines. Cuba is only 90 miles off our shore.
So we see here that the Syrians are now using Cuba as a transit point to access the Panama Canal. Hmmm...
It's a safe bet that ol' Fidel is assisting militant Islamic insurgents into the western hemisphere to attack the Panama Canal and undermine the US' economy thereby killing two birds in one stroke.
THAT is what I get from this incident. We'll see if Muslims traveling aboard jetliners in groups of six has any relevance (there were 6 imams aboard the US Air incident last October), though probably it hasn't.
If "six Syrians" is repeated fast enough, it comes out like "sick Syrians."
leon,
yes...but I was referring to the cubans...they won't dry run against cubans (and they'd need more than a 737 to do the damage needed to take out multiples levels of, say the Gatun Locks-2 lanes with multiple chambers...though your take also warrants merit).
Isn't it fascinating when folk accidentally reveal their true colours for a moment, and then rapidly sweep the whole episode under the carpet when they realise what they have done?
The general official stance would have us believe that all these Cuban and Panamanians are safe as houses, immune from the jihad because of their non-participation in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Yet their apprehension when faced with 6 muslims on an aircraft led them to...
... count the knives?
Ooooppps!
How dishonest, how toe curlingly embarassing, but how delightful to watch them all scrambling like to hide the evidence.

MP asked: Thanks to Dhimmi Carter (and Prince Bandar Bush), the U.S. is no longer the owner of the Panama Canal. Would an attack on that convenience now be an attack on China?
MP; I would hazard a "yes" reply to that. You see, Friend, a Chinese firm now controls both the east and west approaches to the Canal. Isn't that convenient? This way, they can ship their cheap products to the East Coast ports without going bankrupt. Of course, the NAFTA Superhighway will be benificent to the Chinese as well, since that way they will avoid having to transit union-controlled West Coast seaports, because then they'll have access the U.S. and Canada through Mexico, but that's a subject for another forum. At any rate, though, MP: you're right about the attack on China.
Yep...that's why it won't happen, because the puppetmaster IS the communist occupation forces in mainland china, and they won't bite the hand that feeds them (or their islamofascist pogrom).
FYI- the company in question is called Hutchison-Whampoa.
