BAKERY giants Greggs have installed a Muslims-only toilet at their new Scottish headquarters - despite the fact that no Muslims work there.Workers at the state-of-the-art factory were shocked when they were given a tour of the building and told a cubicle had been fitted for the use of Muslim employees. The staff said they are baffled at the decision because they are not aware of any Islamic workers at the base in Cambuslang, near Glasgow.
Last night, management at the bakery said they had received several requests from all over the country for the exclusive facility. All their new buildings will now be fitted with the specialised toilet regardless of the number of Muslims in the workforce.
But staff at the new £15million plant labelled the decision "political correctness gone mad".
One said: “We were being given a guided tour of the new factory before moving there when they told us that they had a toilet for use only by Muslims.
"I couldn’t believe, everybody was stunned because we don’t know of any Muslims who are working here. I don’t think anybody is really angry about it, but there just doesn’t seem to be any need for it. This sort of things is just political correctness gone mad."
Another worker said: "The toilet just looks like a ceramic hole in the ground. I don’t think it will be getting much use and I don’t see why we couldn’t all just use the same toilet anyway.

In France, just a few decades ago, that was all they had in the cafes and not a few restaurants. But when France became better off, it managed to do away with those W.C.s "a la turque" that once one had to endure.
One wonders about this "special toilet." What's it all about? Is it, by any chance, about the fact that Muslims are instructed by their immutable texts not to defecate into "still water"? See Al-Qaradawi on what's Haram and what Halal. That of course made sense, in 7th century Arabia, where one would not wish to have the few rivulets that ran used as toilets. But it makes no sense with modern plumbing. Nonetheless, the True Believers will want to follow to the letter the rules on what is haram.
Decades ago, when the Soviet Union had so many Arab students, being trained in all kinds of military techniques including terrorism, and others, such as Mahmoud Abbas, learning enough Russian to be able to hire locals to help ghostwrite their theses denying the Holocaust and suchlike, a curious phenomenon could be observed in bathrooms at and around the places where those students lived or studied. Some of the Arab students had the unappetizing habit of defecating not in the toilets, but rather on the floor, right beside the toilets. This apparently reflected their loyalty to the command not to defecate into "still waters" -- and the water in the toilet bowl was, in their eyes, "still."
Could that be one of the reasons why a hole, rather than a regular toilet, is being proleptically provided by the culturally sensitive planners at Greggs of Scotland? Or is there another reason for the desire to go backwards in the civilizational and possibly phylogenetic scale, and to provide, instead of the wonders of modern plumbing that the Western world developed, rather the old hole in the ground that Muhammad and others in seventh-century Arabia had to make do with?

what have muslims been using in the UK before "muslim" toilets? this sounds bogus. i worked with muslims and i never heard of a muslim only toilet.

If I worked at that office, and this stupid toilet became an issue, I would consider converting to islam just so I could use it (heck, it's as good as any other reason for converting).
Anyone complains when I'm in there, and the shriek of "Islamophobia" would reach the Chairman...sorry, Chairperson.
Oh, and the management at Greggs should be informed of that choice.

I'll take a stab at this one. Easy enough I think. They're feeling "humiliated" once again by our Superior Engineering.
The whole world is Western Imagination, Art, Engineering *in*their*face*.
It's in fact a direct affront to their "god" since we, the so-called "infidels" are doing so much better than alla's "chosen". You know, the wild-eyed, big-mouthed bearded ones..
By relieving themselves on the floor they are expressing their helpless rage at our Superiority at each and every turn.

hmmm... The Bakery owners are pure idiots, plain and simple. This has nothing to do with Islam. That type of toilet is a cultural thing. A porcelain hole in ground is common in China and Japan. Why? The people feel it's more hygenic (and they're right) not to sit on the toilet seat on a western toilet when hundreds of people have used it. Who knows what disease you can get from it?
Now, to say this toilet is for Muslim-only usage is pure discrimination. This bakery should be sued in court for racist behavior.

I remember hearing that when an MNC IT operation was being set-up in India a few years ago,the trainers included a British muslim lady, who insisted that the "Dry" (paper only) toilets were not acceptable for muslims, and water supply was an absolute must. So water faucets were retrofitted in all the toilets. I do not know if they insisted on a handy supply of stones as well.
Does the bakery have a namaz prayer room? That would be truly wonderful, the ultimate PC gesture.
I was introduced to the "hole in the ground" in a latrine, while stationed in Germany 1972. Was told the idea came from Vietnam. Never asked or figured out why it was deemed necessary on a US military base in another country.

Leon, I think you are assuming that all Muslims are consistent and logical (well, at least consistent). If this were the case, there would be no such thing as "Jihadi Rap", a genre I could certainly do without.
There is a hidjabbed Muslima who works at one of the Starbucks in downtown Oakland. It's always rather startling to see the jaunty green Starbucks apron--emblazoned with a topless mermaid!--worn over a severe long-sleeved black garment and headscarf.
There she is behind the counter, inches away from the display case full of Ham and Cheese sandwiches and Salami Pannini. Perhaps all she does is make coffee--I've never seen her at the cash register.
What about Islam's other prohibitions, though? They sell music, facilitate the mixing of men and women (some of whom are not related to each other!). Whatever accomadations they are making for this employee, it is clear that she is not being consistent. Hell, a lot of Imams want to see coffee houses banned altogether.
It's also possible that those coming Muslim employees would like to see those sausage rolls off the menu at Greggs in the future.
