VIENNA, Austria — Austrian authorities said Thursday they arrested an elderly Turkish-born man suspected of fatally shooting a younger Turkish associate and slicing off the victim's penis in what investigators called an "honor killing."
Police in the town of Wimpassing in the province of Lower Austria made the arrest shortly after the Wednesday night slaying, and said the suspect — described only as a 76-year-old native Turk — did not resist.
Officials said witnesses claimed the man allegedly shot the victim, a 58-year-old Turkish-born man, in the street with a shotgun at point-blank range and then cut off his penis with a knife, leaving him to bleed to death.
Two teams of surgeons worked at the scene to save the man but were unable to revive him, authorities said.
Investigators believe the suspect apparently was jealous that the younger man had flirted with his wife, and had sought him out as "a question of honor," said Franz Polzer, head of the region's criminal investigations office.
Honor killings, driven by the view that a family's honor is paramount, are an ancient tradition associated with Kurdish regions of Turkey, Iraq and Iran as well as tribal areas in Pakistan and some Arab societies.
The suspect initially fled into a nearby house after the slaying, but witnesses alerted police to his location and he walked out and surrendered shortly thereafter, Polzer said.
Police said the man appeared to have purchased the shotgun earlier on Wednesday. They said he had disposed of the knife, but that officers recovered the weapon after searching the area.
It was the first known attack of its kind in Austria, which is home to about 200,000 Turks — Europe's third-largest Turkish expatriate population after Germany and France.
But so-called honor killings have occurred elsewhere in Europe:
— In August, a federal court in Germany ordered a retrial for two brothers acquitted of fatally shooting their sister —an attack that prosecutors said was meant to punish the Turkish-German woman for her Western lifestyle.
— In Britain in July, the father and uncle of an Iraqi Kurd woman who was murdered for falling in love with the wrong man were sentenced to life in prison for ordering the killing.
— In 2006, a Danish court sentenced a Pakistani man to life imprisonment for ordering the slaying of his 19-year-old daughter, who was gunned down two days after her wedding because her family allegedly disapproved of her choice of husband.
And there will undoubtedly be more in Europe and the rest of the West, all the more if countries do not openly and firmly insist on individual rights over and above collective "honor," regardless of the culture or country of origin in question.
Honor killings. This is barbaric and defies humanity and logic. Doesn't he DISHONOR himself, his "religion", his family, by committing this heinous crime.

I'm not sure this one is in the same category as an Islamically based honor killing. Had it been inspired by Islam, the olderly man would have killed his wife for being flirted with. Instead he appears to be just a jealous husband commiting a murder that could occur in any religion or culture. There are states in the US where the law requires that a cockolded husband who murders his wife or her lover when caught in the act to be charged only with manslaughter. In fact, had O.J. Simpson killed his wife and supposed lover in Alabama, Lousiana, or West Virgina, he probably would have been aquitted based on this.
According to AkteIslam's German news sources, the offence consisted of 'smiling' at the wife in the first, and 'eyeing up' in the second. Neither mention flirting which to me anyway seems more of a two-way thing.
Also, the man was shot in the back.

Actually, I think this episode shows how Euro-Muslims are expanding their concept of "honor killing" which usually involves only the killing of their womenfolk.

We have laws against cruelty to animals in this country. We have determined that many forms of ritual slaughter of animals are cruel under our laws; for this reason as well as for reasons of public health, we do not allow the slaughter of animals at private residences, in public venues, or at places of work or worship. If your religion insists on animal sacrifice, arrange it with your local butcher.
(I'm sure there would be more advisory statements, but this is at least a start!)
Sure glad the West invited in this new level of trouble ...to make sure the Civilization it built up didn't have a chance to begin to enjoy some of the fruits of its labors... after a millennium or two of religious warfare finally subsiding.

Is it just me, but, WHY are these people in our countries?
I know the regular-politicaly-correct-answer, and I still pose the question: WHY?
I still remeber the time in Sweden when we did not have to lock our front door to the house, when we went away for the weekend. When somebody might stop by, go into the house, take a cup of coffee, leave a note, saying: "Hi! We were here, took a cup of coffee by our self´s, since you was,´t at home. Why don´t you come over for dinner on sunday evening"
It was a time when you went to the bank, post office and a lot of other places and people would have taken you for a mars born if you´d said: "Why don´t you protect your mony behind bulletproof windows"
If I then had said that, in 20-30 years we´ll experience rape epedemics in Sweden, more than 10.000 schools put on fire every year (mostly by young people), repeatedely violence against teachers - who will get fired if defending them selfs and more. The response would have been: "You must have read the book of revelation to much!"
Somebody once said (probably many people said it): "They took God (the christian one) out of school, and now people ask why everything goes to hell!"
When I grew up (I´m 44 years now) there was still a sence of right and wrong. And it was taught to kids! If you did something wrong, you got to pay for it.
When I was eleven years I was told about the man who beat up his wife (he was a swede, middleclass and now ex-respected pillar of the town). He was told in no uncertain terms, that if he wanted to start over again, he find a new town to live in and leave his wife and kids alone. For ever!
I´m not that deluded that I belive it was a peachy paradise in Sweden some 30-40 years ago. Men drank and abused wifes and their kids then to, many in secret and never found out. But to a lesser degree. And that don´t change the fact that it´s a totaly different Sweden today. And much to the worse.
The same people responsible for the massimigration, with no idéa how to handle it and with little or no care about it´s consequenses are the ones loudest claiming that there are no values of right and wrong. Just values of the now. You find them both to the left and right.
The heritage of judeo-christianity is percived to be a obstacle to their utopian paradise of do-what-you-want-and-feel-good-about-it lifestyle. The 350.000 (some say 4-500k) muslims (about 100.000 active,)of 9 million in Sweden, has been the perfect alliby to demote christianity from the public sphere of life. No, we can´t claim that Sweden rest´s on the christian heritage, that would be an affront to all non-christians (read muslims).
So, since all culture´s are equals, let´s start womens only days at the comunal swimingpools, to pay our dues. Just be sure not to remind the infidells that they´re the one´s who has to pay the bill. Make them feel enlightened instead when they have to submit more and more to the new order.
Over the years I have many times felt happy for the many new friends I found, coming from all over the world to Sweden and Stockholm. But I also have seen the many that never should have been alowed to set foot on Swedish soil - them people who have been to a great part responsible to destroy a good country.
In my work as a pastor I often, in periods - weekly, meet women who are abused by their men. Is anybody surprised when I say that muslim men are on the top of the list over perpetrators?
This is not the Sweden I once grew up in. And viewing the trends, I wonder what kind of Sweden my kids one day will inherit. They might find that they´re not on the list of inheritance anymore.
So, my question is still out there: WHY are these people in our countries?
