Paul Belien at the Brussels Journal reports on riots just yards from where we participated in the Counterjihad Summit in Brussels last week. An update on this story:
Europe’s no-go zones or SUAs (“sensitive urban areas”) are multiplying. These are areas where the police no longer dares to venture and where Islamists hold sway. Every night since the beginning of last week, immigrant youths have been torching cars and clashing with police in Amsterdam’s Slotervaart district. The incidents started on Oct. 14 when a policewoman shot dead Bilal Bajaka, a 22-year old ethnic Moroccan, whilst he was stabbing her and a colleague with a knife. The officers were stabbed in the breast, face, neck and back. Surgeons could only narrowly save their lives.Since the incident, Slotervaart has seen rioting almost every night. The Amsterdam Moroccans are “shocked” because one of them has been killed by an infidel woman. According to his family, Bilal Bajaka was mentally deranged and had a suicide obsession. Ahmed Marcouch, the Moroccan-born Socialist mayor of Slotervaart, criticized the Dutch authorities for failing to provide adequate health care for Bajaka’s mental problems.
Bilal Bajaka was, however, a personal friend of Mohammed Bouyeri, the Jihadist who ritually slaughtered the Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh in 2004. Bilal’s attack on the two police officers came exactly two years after the arrest of his brother, Abdullah Bajaka, the leader of an alleged plot to blow up an El-Al Boeing at Amsterdam airport. Bilal’s family background is not at all deprived. One of his sisters is a medical doctor, another sister is a Dutch judge.

Similar events are currently taking place in Brussels, the capital of neighbouring Belgium and of the EU. Last Sunday, demonstrating Turkish youths ransacked an Armenian restaurant in the Sint-Joost-ten-Node borough. According to the owner the police was present at the scene but did not interfere while his establishment was being demolished. The Armenian had to flee for his life.
Another man who had to run for his life was the Belgian journalist Mehmet Koksal, an ethnic Turk. He was attacked around 11 pm on Sunday evening by a group of some twenty Turkish youths in front of the American embassy in Brussels, a few yards from the Belgian parliament building. The Parliament and the US Embassy are less than one kilometer from Sint-Joost-ten-Node. Koksal fled to a nearby police car, but a female police officer refused to let him into the car, whereupon the youths savagely beat him up. Fearing that they were about to lynch him, the police officers changed their attitude and allowed the journalist to seek refuge in their car....

From the Brussels Journal: Koksal told the press today that he is not going to press charges against the police for failing to help him. “The police woman was more afraid than I was and ultimately the police came to my rescue,” he said.
Well, that's not my attitude, nor is it the attitude of many Americans. There aren't too many instances when the police can be held liable for failing to protect someone, but this is certainly one where a cop sat in her car and did not intervene until the last second, after the man was severely beaten.
I presume the Brussels cops are armed, there is no excuse for such cowardly action on the part of the police.
I read these articles and I think of that phrase from World War II/Holocaust about (and I paraphrase) they came for the Jews and I did nothing, they came for the Catholics and I did nothing, etc., then they came for me. Is this how non-Muslim, secular Europeans are going to "deal" with this clash of civilizations? Wait until they are the next ones?

I served as a police officer for 25 years, and would consider any cop who just stood by to be a coward and completely untrustworthy. Like most folks in the military, most police look after 1.) themselves, 2.) fellow officers, and 3.) the public. That being said, the job has to be done. It is also dangerous in a riot situation to just sit on your hands, as it emboldens the street scum. The best response includes overwhelming force, the specific targeting of any obvious leaders for hospitalization followed by arrest, and the aggressive pursuit of rank and file looters. I'm willing to bet the cops in question have had their cojones removed by politicians,(both in and out of uniform) who lack the will to enorce the law, and are afraid that any "incident" where blood is shed will come back to haunt them. It's pathetic to think that the European capital has already been lost to an islamic mob due to the sheer lack of will to defend it. There is a lesson here for all.
With each and every incident like these in Belgium and The Netherlands it should become increasingly obvious to all but the most obtuse (i.e., the Far Left) that Islam functions as a cancer in the body politic and must be excised. With each passing week and month, it appears more and more necessary to not only end Muslim immigration to Western nations but also commence their mass expulsion from Western states. This is well beyond the realm of criminal acts. These are calculated acts of war and the sooner the Europeans realize this the better. Some tanks and armored vehicles can take back "no zone" areas. the attack against the female policewomen is a personification of the Muslim, deranged ideology of war that will only be stopped by military action.
After (how many?) policemen have been charged with using "excessive force" or with "racial profiling", it's not difficult to understand their not being proactive. They've been neutered along with the rest of society. Put the television cameras out capturing every instance they possibly can of police attacking those "poor, innocent civilians" and the same thing will probably happen in the US. Remember Rodney King? The press showed only the police officers clubbing one defenseless man, as if it had happened in a vacuum. No officer is going to make that mistake again, if he wants to keep his pension. Who wants to be seen on CNN or the BBC attacking civilians? The ICC isn't far away.
Why are there areas where police no longer dare to venture? Could it be that their efforts are not supported by the civilian leadership and that the press uses any mistakes made to portray them as acting unfairly? Twenty-twenty hindsight doesn't help the police do their job, but it's all the rest of us can offer.
How the journalist tells his story will be instructive. How often has he written about European prejudice (or whatever) toward the Muslim community? Now he's on the other side? Call it cowardice, but the fact remains that those two police officers couldn't stop a mob.
If the US Army is required to get a lawyer's permission to fire at a "civilian" target from which they are taking fire, who can blame the police? They're workers, like everyone else. It's easy to call them cowardly, but they have been given strict rules to follow and their failure to dot even one i properly can lead to dismissal for using "excessive force".
This man's family sounds a lot like the bin Ladens. Many members are in good standing in the community (don't blame them for their wayward sibling!) and the rest are "mentally ill". "Suicide obsession" is one of the early symptoms of runaway Islamism.
I currently live in the great state of Texas and I am proud to say that this situation would never fall upon our citizens. This is not because we are gun carrying men, but rather we are free men proud of our culture and our way of life. If this disgusting and violent mob of people, whether they be muslim or not, attempted such destruction in my town, they would be met by a group of free men who would never succumb to such intimidation. Yes, unfortunately there would be violence as we would forcefully defend our families and property, but sometimes that is the price that must be paid to repel evil.
Needless to say, it is shameful that the free men of Amsterdam and Brussels do not value their families, their property, and their freedom enough to stand up and look evil the eye. The difference in my state makes me proud to be an American. We will not submit.

If these creatures are attacking non-Muslims, then it is indeed shameful that there is no police intervention, and the common people either cannot (lack of tools) or will not (lack of toughness) protect themselves.

Well, the police were probably under orders not to engage the wild'n'crazies because all these riots were "caused" (in liberal-think) by a policewoman defending herself. ((In conservative-think, the riots are "caused" by not cracking down on lesser, testing-the-waters types of illegal behavior... sort of like Giuliani's "broken windows" policy when he cleaned up New York City.))
If Eurabia had the balls to roll tanks into some of these areas where "troubled youths" hold sway, I would imagine peace and serenity would follow shortly thereafter. For their own long term survival, the populations need to let the government know that "no go zones" will not be tolerated, and that is not a police decision, nor an acceptable government position, to relinquish sovereign territory. The non-Muslim population will have to decide if they are willing to subjugate themselves to the Islamic colony. And if they are not willing; they must decide who and what they are willing to sacrifice to stop the erosion of civilization. Government officials will then have to pick a side. Police who won't police are worse than useless; they are an obstacle to civilization and will have to be treated as such.
If neither government nor the population stand up and defend themselves, they shouldn't be surprised if at least two bloodbaths befall them in the future. The first: when chaos of Islam envelops them totally… and the second: when Islam encounters that part of the rest of the world that will not submit.
Notice that in the tortured logic of Islam (aka Naseem: "Ahmadi Islam does not do this...there is hope yet!") the problem becomes the answer. Islam creates the chaos it offers to cure with Sharia.

I suppose we should be glad that the police finally acted when it seemed the poor man would be murdered right before their eyes. How long before they fail to act even in such extremis? Also, note there was not a single arrest. The "youths" are free to attack again, with complete impunity.
Then there is the case of the canceling of the Dutch security detail protecting Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and Swedish police advising artist Lars Viks to flee his home for his own safety, rather than offering him protection. Theodore Dalrymple writes that not only have police in Britain in many cases stopped pursuing criminals, they frequently decline to even take reports.
I realize the police in Europe are between a rock and a hard place--facing insane politically-correct strictures from superiors and politicians, while also facing increasingly flagrant violence from Muslim "youth". The fact is, though, they are simply no longer offering the most basic protections to their citizens.
Under normal circumstances, I would suggest--as R_not did--that if police cannot handle these situations that the military be called in. But the main reason the police are so useless is that they have been totally defanged. I doubt under such conditions that the military would *ever* be brought in, or that they would be much more effective if opereating under the same guidelines.

Taking back education and media is the only way to preserve our civilization. Why is it hard? In my opinion, mostly because the leftards are cowards. They are afraid of islamic jihad, and at the same time they are not afraid of us. What do you choose to side with: complaining father of a kid in your class, or a radical muslim with a bomb in the street? Do you choose the audience who quietly watches your show, or the radical muslim with a gun who is rioting because he did not like your words?
In my opinion, conservative America can no longer afford being not feared of. We can no longer afford to be overweight, unfit, passive, sick etc (no offense!). When I saw all the shit coming our way in 2001, I said to myself that I stop working long hours, allowing my health to deteriorate gradually. We put our kids in martial arts, bought a bunch of rifles, started going to the range to shoot some targets and hiking in the hills, i.e. reclaimed our lives from the stress of survival from paycheck to paycheck in order to be a force, not a victim.
I really believe in the magic of the 2nd amendment - perception of life is quite different if one knows that should a need be, he/she can hit the target at 100-500 yards, compared with having no clue what to do in danger if police is not in the view.
Trust me, the muslim know that and they will work their hardest on gun control and abolishing CCW and 2nd amendment thru their leftard proxies.

I don't know if Muslims in Amsterdam are heavily armed, but in Russia (ie. restive Chechnya), Thailand (restive south), and Sudan (restive Darfur), and elsewhere Muslims are in proximity to infidels, the pattern is clear. Vatican prods Muslims on religious freedom

Msgr. Anthony Frontiero, the American-born Vatican representative at the OSCE, said that respect for religious freedom would entail allowing Christians to worship freely, and ending policies that bar Muslims from changing their religious affiliation.
The Vatican envoy's statement came after an Islamic leader had pushed for more concessions to Muslims living in Europe. Last week at an OSCE meeting in Madrid dedicated to the problem of "Islamophobia," the secretary-general of the Arab League, Amr Mousa, demanded that the Catholic cathedral in Cordoba, which was once a mosque, be opened once again for Islamic prayer services.

Europe needs to get over its own feeling of moral and cultural superiority. It can't fight back until it decides that it faces an enemy greater than America. Which is the greater contamination: Americans who might not know soccer or Muslims who neither know nor want freedom? For too many Europeans, it is the former.

What makes you think there will be any non-Muslim states left in Europe if this trend continues? There won't be any need for such an alliance because all of Europe will be Islamic. The great cathedrals and castles of Europe will be converted to mosques, a la Hagia Sofia. Vatican City might be all that remains, and how long can the Pope hold out? Benedict might well be the last vicar of Rome.

I'm still of the opinion that most "liberals" do favor liberty, not the authoritarianism of the far left or the religious tyranny of Islam. If I thought "sweeping aside" anything like 100 million Americans would be necessary, I'd be a lot more discouraged.
Although familiarity with Islam is growing, there are still many who consider themselves liberal that cannot take the threat seriously. These are the "live and let live" liberals. They just can't believe that any group of people could take a religion seriously enough to kill for, much less die for. These liberals can be reached with reasoned argument, sometimes by merely connecting the dots between what they would have otherwise considered isolated incidents.
But there is a smaller, more dangerous group; the committed followers of the prophets Marx, Gramsci, and Marcuse. These "cultural Marxists" promulgate the myth of the capitalist West as the source of all evil and suffering in the world. This group has abandoned reason completely, and so immersed itself in feelings as a way of understanding and interacting with the universe around them, that reasoned conversation is essentially a hopeless cause. Most of us who went through college in the 60's and 70's paid scant attention to these characters. At the time they usually seemed no more than eccentric academic entertainment. This group, following the outline Gramsci proposed in the 1930's, has spread its ideology through the schools and into government, courts, clergy… anywhere it could damage Western political stability.
These cultural Marxists have presented a host of ideas to the sea of live and let live liberals that seem reasonable at first glance, but on closer inspection have little to do with reason and a lot to do with emotion. And as long as each side is laying all the blame on the other side (which doesn't take alot of courage and isn't very productive), we're not going to get anywhere.

What is other part of the story, the hard part? Do you mean the "what to do about it" part?
As far as "each side is laying all the blame on the other side", are you speaking of liberal-conservative sides, or Western-Islamic sides? If you're talking about a liberal-conservative divide: I consider myself liberal in many if not most respects. Having said that, I do believe that the liberal camp is having a bit more of a challenge at getting its arms around the scope of the problem and the implications it has for our future.
One more observation: I've also noticed that my liberal friends without children seem to be less concerned about the future than my liberal friends with kids... not a scientific observation, just a personal one.
Pounding the daylights out of Iran will go a long way in waking up Europe. Be it cold water in bed or hot Coffie in the lap, either of which will get their attention in the most dramatic fashion.

I tend to agree with most of what you said.
The situation in North America is indeed a bit more difficult1. It seems to me that the difficulty is in what Ralph pointed to as division of the left. There is strong influence of Marxist lunatics on the live and let live liberals.
Fortunately or not, people tend to listen to the others who share their world view, not to those who don't. I see many more synergies between the live and let live liberals and Marxist/Leninist liberals. That is truly sad!
This is what I mean by winning hearts and minds of the left - starting with the live and let live liberals you personally know and talking to them, about anything, slowly but surely pumping reason into them, bringing them to the light side.
As to your stab at taking liberals shooting, I won't stop introducing people to the sport and politics of gun ownership. Surprisingly, it works.
