The far right is taking its favorite catchphrase on tour. Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week is coming to a campus near you.
Oh boy!
According to FrontPage magazine's David Horowitz, the event was designed to "confront the two Big Lies of the political left: that George Bush created the 'war on terror' and that global warming is a greater danger to Americans than global jihad and Islamic supremacism." The week's events will include "awareness" speeches by Michael Ledeen, Rick Santorum, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter as well as Horowitz himself. With such a fair and balanced list, Islamo-Fascism Week will be the perfect environment to proselytize anti-Islamic propaganda to the under 30 crowd.
Of course, Robert Spencer and yours truly will also be on hand to rattle the bars of academia. I'll be at Cal Tech, San Luis Obispo on Weds, Oct 24 and maybe Stanford sometime during the week.
The official poster of Islamo-Fascism week shows a photo of a teenage girl being stoned to death in Iran (disclosure: my country of birth) and will also feature speeches from Iranians who were victims of persecution. As an Iranian-American, I appreciate that they're spreading the word about human rights abuses in my native country. Unfortunately, I think their goal has less to do with spreading awareness than it does with fostering fear, suspicion and bigotry.Islamo-Fascism Awareness week is about telling you that Islam is evil and that Muslims are out to get you. When in fact, some crazy and violent people have hijacked the religion of billions of peaceful people.
This old saw -- and the concomitant absence of supporting evidence. In fact, the speakers for the week hold differing opinions on the question of whether Islam is itself intrinsically violent (me) or whether it has indeed been "hijacked" -- an ironical use of the word if there ever was one.
As part of the festivities, the event will feature a series of one-sided films including Islam: What the West Needs to Know, which extols the worldview of good (Christianity) versus evil (Islam). According to FrontPage, the movie is designed to reveal the "violent, expansionary ideology of the so called 'religion of peace' that seeks the destruction or subjugation of other faiths, cultures, and systems of government."
Something like that. Order yours today!
Which statement is true:
1) Islamo-Fascism Awareness week is about telling you that Islam is evil and that Muslims are out to get you.
2) When in fact, some crazy and violent people have hijacked the religion of billions of peaceful people.
Greg,
Do you have a link to your Fox News appearance last year in which you told Mike Baker and his female business partner about Islam (in discussing your book)?
Greg, many people participating in the Jihad Awareness Project will be mailing your DVD to Congress together with Spencer's new book. Everyone participating will do the mailing on the same date (not yet set).
Hang on, according to Azadeh Ensha allah has hijacked and perverted islam...
"When we decide to destroy a population, we send a definite order to them who have the good things in life and yet sin. So that Allah’s word is proven true against them, then we destroy them utterly.”
I always knew the god of islam was an radical fundamentalist extremist islamist and was perverted...er, perverting true islam.
"Sean Hannity"?
Hugh,
Are there any events in NYC?
Can't the world be facing both a huge threat both from global warming and Islam? Must it be one or the other? Didn't the US face both the Nazis and the Japanese at the same time? (This is quite apart from whether global warming is real, etc.)
As for Bush: Of course he didn't invent the war on terror (should be called the war on Islam); they did, 1400 years ago. But he and his administration have done a poor job defending us (and before anyone says well, we haven't had an attack since 2001, remember the stretch of time between 1993 and 2001). Bush's tone-deaf policies made siding with us very difficult, when it should have been very easy.
The reason we had the sympathy of the world on 9/11 was that much of the world regarded us with admiration and affection. No more; and it's not due to attacking Islam (or if you prefer, Islamists); it's Bush, pure and simple, which means the unnecessary war in Iraq, destruction of a country, and torture; renditions, etc. He's made us into the enemy and thereby makes our enemies, Islamists, all the more attractive.
This is not to say that left wing Europeans for instance have always harbored distrust or dislike of us. But Bush has breathed life into that dislike and confirmed everything they have said about us.
Azadeh Ensha,
Sorry Azadeh, but we are tired of apologists who mislead and may not even know their own religion... Ask the neighbouring countries of Moslem majority states (not to mention how those states became moslem in the first place!) how they perceive you. It is not just America and Europe. What happened to the minorities in the Middle East? What ever happened to th emajority Zoroastrians in your country? What part of islam+fascist don't you get?
Hey Seymour
I see you like Kool-aid. What can anyone do to stop global warming, since the temperature variations are ultimately driven by the sun's cycles. Industrialization did not bring about global warming. That just shows liberal hubris and lack of objective scientific reasoning. Just another example of tyranny. Ultimately in the scheme of things man cannot be the problem.. How would you explain global warming on Mars?
As for the war on terror being a war on Islam, tell have right wing swedish underground guerillas been attacking us? Have Australian aborigines been attacking us-- at least for the past few decades? Have Argentinian Christians been attacking us? There is confluence of forces against us and I think you do not yet "get" it. If you want to see what is going on, why don't you move to Qom or Tehran? Perhaps Pyongyang. Any totalitarian state will do.
In other words Seymour, The world liked us as victims. Well to hell with that!
Billions? Is that a fact too?
From Seymour Paine:
"This is not to say that left wing Europeans for instance have always harbored distrust or dislike of us. But Bush has breathed life into that dislike and confirmed everything they have said about us."
The European left has plenty to answer for in this life. Their cheerful stroll through the 20th Century left mountains of destroyed lives and death in its wake.
And they're at it still. Now making common cause with the jihaddis.
Their approval isn't worth much.
"Ann Coulter"
i fold on this one. she's an anti-semetic.
why the hell didn't the organisers get ayaan ali on board? sean hannity, please, this is a farce.
don't you people get it?
we need more non W.A.S.P.S fronting this anti-jihad movement!
same as the brussels demos, i sent a list of exactly what should be implemented to the organisers, they ignored me and the press showed images of old white men demonstrating!
we're gonna lose if we dont "sex" this up!!!
we look like a bunch of boring white bigots to the average joe.
Leon read this
http://www.debbieschlussel.com/
We need everybody to participate...
she should'ny have made those anti-semetic remarks. it was distasteful and has severly damaged our credibility.
Even Dr. M Savage came out strongly against her.
she's a moron and i really have no desire to join in an event where she is speaking.
why didn't they have Ayaan Ali? she runs rings around that anti-semetic horse.
" Unfortunately, I think their goal has less to do with spreading awareness than it does with fostering fear, suspicion and bigotry."
bigotry, there you go, the catch phrase of the far left.
Ayaan Ali!!!!!! Don't you guys get it!!! Switch on people!
The far left are left stumped when they see a "black" face, an ex-muslim, denouncing Islam!
please, if the organisers are reading this, please dump hannity and coulter, raise money to have Ayaan Ali to give a speech.
She should be our poster girl! not that stupid anti-semetic horse coulter.
Seymour Paine:
"But he and his administration have done a poor job defending us (and before anyone says well, we haven't had an attack since 2001, remember the stretch of time between 1993 and 2001)."
We were attacked in 1993. The world trade center was bombed in 1993. In 1998 the US Embassies in Tanzania and in Kenya were bombed. In 2000 the USS Cole was bombed. True, the latter 3 were on foreign soil/waters, however we were not free of Islamic terrorism during those years which you cite. Indeed, the cavalier attitude of the Clinton administration towards Islam permitted the 9/11 attack.
"The reason we had the sympathy of the world on 9/11 was that much of the world regarded us with admiration and affection. No more; and it's not due to attacking Islam (or if you prefer, Islamists); it's Bush, pure and simple, which means the unnecessary war in Iraq, destruction of a country, and torture; renditions, etc. He's made us into the enemy and thereby makes our enemies, Islamists, all the more attractive."
Wrong. We were hated well before President Bush was first elected. If any part of the world sympathized, it's because they were fundamentally decent people who saw the atrocity committed against innocent human beings. We can assume that those who rejoiced were not. And believe me, there were Euros and purported allies of ours who were secretly pleased with the 9/11 attacks because they hated us for years. Read The Rage and the Pride by Oriana Fallaci. They hate President Bush because he is openly Christian, and most of the world hates Christianity, including the Left in America.
Secondly, your concern about whether or not we have the "admiration or affection" of the world reflects an adolescent attitude in world politics. Personally, I don't care if we are liked or hated.
Oderint Dum Metuant.

The school in San Luis Obispo that Robert will be speaking at is refered to as "Cal Poly" short for California Polytechnic State University. Cal Tech is some else.
"They hate President Bush because he is openly Christian, and most of the world hates Christianity, including the Left in America."
yep, sad but true.
euros consider the religious south as on a kin with islamic jihadism.
4 days after londoners were blown to bits. i visited my mother in a quaint lincolnshire village, tucked into the fens.
her neighbour spotted us, came over (he's a respected doctor). my mother introduced us and she mentioned that i now live in the USA. "full of religious bigots over there". he said and waklked off.
remember that this was 4 days after islamic religious bigots slaughtered 51 of his people.
1 day after the bombs, a british friend of mine, texted me. "this is all the fault of mr bush and blair".
the left wing press over there are in control people's hatred of america and they are ramping it up big time.
americans are hated/despised and ridiculed in the UK.
yet muslim "moderates" are exmplified and placed on a podium and praised in the press and repeated parrot fashion by the plebs, "islam is the religion of peace". even my mother recently stated this.
Leon
I too would go easy on Ann. Just because Jews don't think I'm God's chosen, or Christians don't think much about me because I don't think twice about Jesus doesn't imply that they are hateful. It's just one of the requirements of the faith. I'd worry much more about those who want to see me either converted (against my will) or subjugated, and there's only one 'religion' that has that as it's mission statement.
"I'd worry much more about those who want to see me either converted "
that's the problem, she did say that "jews"should become christian! i live in the USA, i have the right to choose whatever religion i so damn well want to AND I WILL DEFEND THIS AMENDEMENT THROUGH THE BARREL OF A GUN!
she is a dangerous christian fanatic and has no place in our struggle.
what part of the 1st amendment do you not understand?
I'll be at Cal Tech, San Luis Obispo on Weds, Oct 24...
You mean Calpoly, San Luis Obispo? It's not on the offical Frontpage list.....
Is the event open to the public? When and where will it be held?
