Charles at LGF has a roundup of the increasingly shrill and hysterical reactions to Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week from campus Leftists at Columbia, Indiana, Minnesota, Penn State, Washington State, and Wisconsin.
So the campus Left is placing itself squarely on the side of those who want to implement the institutionalized oppression of women and religious minorities sanctioned by Islamic Sharia law, who deny the freedom of conscience, and want to impose upon the world a supremacist and totalitarian code.
Why am I not surprised?
Meanwhile, while calling us "fascists" and "bigots" and the like, they are going to shout us down, hurl abuse at us, and do all they can to interfere with our ability to speak freely, thus validating for themselves the "fascist" part of the Week's name.
It promises to be an interesting week.
Moonbat communist Boston University professor is bashing Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week.
He is using his new anti-zionist group to get people to oppose IFAW.
See for yourself:
http://www.codz.org/Islamo-Fascism.html
The Moonbat communist Boston University professor is Howard Zinn.
To be fair I'd say I'm beyond hysterical at this point.

I'm LOVING it stinky! I wana T shirt with that on it!
Why is it that the Left declares to be so 'open' to dialogue, but only when it is their dialogue.
And they are so assaulting of our basic human rights of speech and knowledge.
If their 'way' is the right 'way', then they should not be afraid to let 'their way' stand on it's own. If their 'way' needs this type of confrontation and verbal assault to talk about it, what then will it take for the Left to immpliment it? Mass killings or mass imprisonments of those that oppose them?
They are the facists and bigots.
When will Washington D.C. wake up and ban Islam in the U.S.?
It's simple as to why, Robert,
their position is so baseless, so without solid foundation, that it cannot withstand discussion at all, lest islamofascism be exposed for the evil it is.
The hysterical actions on their part also exposes their own hypocrisy, since truth needs no such hysteria to protect it.
Amazing how the same loonies will commit to such action, yet claim to hate "nazis" when they act just like the brownshirts of hitler's sturmabteilung.
They have become what they hate.
Naturally, UC Irvine (hatefest central) joins the seething: ‘Islamo-Facism’ Week Ignores Real Enemy
Give you 3 guesses who's the "Real Enemy"?
Oh look! They've got a petition... you know what to do?btw: Penn State MSA succeeded in bullying College Republicans into censoring the "Islamo" out of IFA Week;
/gaze"real enemy"?
The minute I saw norm finkelstein mentioned told the tale...lol
The enemy is anyone who isn't PC, pro-islamic, dare to question anything affiliated with PC in any way, which includes islamofascism which is very much part of said bunch, aka, the unholy alliance (see book by the same name).
Lying propagandists always get frantic like this when exposed to the light of truth...something they know nothing about since they never let facts get in the way of their pogroms masquerading as classes.
i'll put up my visit to islamofascist seminar for atlanta on youtube and will give you all the link. i'll be handing out flyers with info on communist genocide, prolly around 90 million murdered so far, plus i'll be filming myself hand over the flyers.
Near the very beginning of their rule in the former Russian Empire, the Bolsheviks declared their favoritism for Muslims over non-Muslims. They also implicitly belittled the Armenian genocide of WW One.
See link:
http://ziontruth.blogspot.com/2005/10/bolsheviks-for-jihad-genocide-stalins.html
So it comes as no surprise that those who are today called "leftists" continue the Bolshevik line.
"So the campus Left is placing itself squarely on the side of those who want to implement the institutionalized oppression of women and religious minorities sanctioned by Islamic Sharia law, who deny the freedom of conscience, and want to impose upon the world a supremacist and totalitarian code".
The political Left alliance with IslamoFascism is very similar to the Nazi-Soviet alliance of 1939. Most of the so-called Communists at the time considered the West the enemy (for demented ideological reasons) and even Stalin refused to believe Churchill when Churchill warned Stalin that the Nazis were going to attack the USSR on June 22, 1941. (The British intelligence had Ultra which broke the Nazi code and "Lucy" a intelligence agent in Germany (Lucy was a devout anti-Nazi Christian who died in 1958) and both confirmed the attack as 6/22/1941.)
The left will be devoured by IslamoFascism as was Stalin in 1941 and only the "liberal" Western Democracies will save them from themselves. History is repeating itself here.
Too close to home, hey islamo-nazis and commie mooonbats? Well, tell you what:
You and your Ahmeds and Hassans and your Omars can grab your 5 wives and 15 children, get on a plane with the ACLU and other anti-American and anti-Western nuts, and get the HECK away from the Western world, bunch of lazies.
It gets on my nerves when loosess like Muslims and moonbats, who did NOTHING to enhance the life of the West, try to act all moral. Oh please

BTW, "Lucy" was a German man. The Nazis had millions of Marks as a reward for his capture. He moved all over Germany (I think he was a traveling salesman) and he was given top secret data on a regular basis by Colonel-General Oster (who was the top man of the German Army Signal Corps). Oster also considered the Nazis satanic. However, in his last meeting with "Lucy" (late 1944) he warned Lucy that the Gestapo was shadowing him (Oster) and that they were aware that someone in the leadership of the German Army was feeding "Lucy" the info that was so vital to the Allies.
It was the info from "Lucy" (sent by morse code) that confirmed 6/22/1941-4 AM as the date of attack on the USSR. The demented Left of 1941 did a 180 degree turn on 6/23/1941. The current demented Left is of a similar "mind".
Frank
i actually truly believe that the socialists are using the islamists as patsies for their cause. which is hte destruction of conservative and christian europe. their goal is a multicultural, non nationalistic one world socialist government. all nations are one.
their only problem will be what to do with all the muslims once they have defeated conservatism and christendom in the west.
an alliance would be out of the question.
they will follow their past adn follow the methods used by Mao and Stalin.
we need to stand fast and defeat the socialists.
Islam=trouble. Leftism=idiocy. Made for each other.
OFF TOPIC:
ROBERT! You've made the big time! Look at this petition about Islamophobes -- you are second only to Ann Coulter in Islamophobia!
And the signers of the petition just take her word for it, that you preach hatred and violence against people solely on the basis of their faith.
Congratulations!

Frank,
perhaps you're referring to Karl Sedlacek & his Rote Kapelle group. Oster got his info from Abwehr, via Wilhelm Canaris, who wasn't a commie, but loose lips made it easier for rote kapelle to operate.
Yes, they did, in conjunction with Sorge in Japan, passed it on to the soviets...all for naught at first, since stalin claimed not to believe it, reflective in responses via radio at the front (actually the bombardment started at 0330, but close enough) the very first moments of Barbarossa, heard repeatedly by Germans monitoring them:
"We are being fired on! What shall we do???"
Response: "You must be insane. And why is your signal not in code?"
But...that's another story...

From The Jewish Voice for Peace: "These and other hate-mongers will be demonizing Islam and portraying a one-sided and bigoted view of a faith held by billions of people around the world."
There they are, exaggerating the numbers again. Billions? I accept one billion as a proper number. 1.2 billion tops.
How can Jews have these corrupted ideas? Of all the people on this planet who should understand the danger that is Islam, Jews seem to have the largest collection of people who are the most clueless. I used to visit Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership's website reqularly but I have given up on them because they are fixated on the ATF and ignoring jihad.
leonthepigfarmer-
The political Left's extreme is motivated by ideology, as were the Communists who allied themselves with the Fascists in the late 1930's-early 40's. There was actually a leftist group picketing in front of the White House on June 22, 1941, carrying placards protesting Lend-Lease and any American involvement in WW2, protesting any aid to England. The same protesters (the next day-6/23/1941) had placards (I wish I had the film handy) calling for US involvement in the war and aid to Britain and the USSR. We are dealing with similar demented Leftists and Islamofascists in this matter. There is no reasoning with such people. It's all about "beliefs" with them.
We are dealing with dogmatic nuts with both the extreme Left and the Islamofascists. It's 1939 all over again. "It's deja vu all over again".
From the Mike Adams piece earlier today:
“Hate speech is verbal communication that induces anger due to the listener’s inability to offer an intelligent response.”
Thanks to all who are putting on the Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week. Great idea to calmly present the teachings of the Qur’an against the backdrop of the hysteria. Nobody will change the moon-bats minds, they are fixated on weakening the Country. But it's sure educational to see their anger when the facts are discussed.
Keep in mind that, when the gyroscope returns to equilibrium, as it always does, the stupid are punished. I hope that our granola-crunching campus friends are having a good time.
Leon: ...their only problem will be what to do with all the muslims once they have defeated conservatism and christendom in the west.
To their dismay, it could be 'what are the muslims going to do with them', after Islam defeats the west.
Among other stupid things these people do, is to shoot themselves in the foot, over and over. No wonder they have no good leg to stand on...
Jcom-
I don't know anything about Karl Sedlacek & his Rote Kapelle group. I do know about "Lucy" and Oster. Someday I would like to read more about this. If you have any book suggestions I would appreciate that.
My knowledge here is only of Lucy and Oster. I know that Lucy's coded messages (from all over Germany) was a vital confirmation of Ultra for British intelligence. Lucy and Oster had no idea that Ultra (the decoding machine) existed. But the Oster-Lucy info validated Ultra. The role of Ultra, Lucy and Ostra (and others) were worth 100 divisions on the ground for the allies.
Hitler suspected (I think early '44) that there was a spy high in the German Army. After June 6, 1944 Hitler was convinced that the allies had an agent right in his top military command. That's why all the orders for the Battle of the Bulge attack (12/15/1944) were delivered by hand (not via the Signal corps). Ultimately, the Gestapo (correctly) focused on Oster as the spy at the center of the Nazi Spider nest. Lucy eluded them.
I guess Ayn Rand should be doing a "I told you so" from her grave. And the world would deserve it!
This type of behavior is to be expected from the left. This is the only way they know how to behave. name calling, riots or er I mean protest marches, drowning out speakers who disagree with them instead of discussions, etc. It is all their type of behavior pattern.
Goes to show that as the truth about Islam, jihad and Islamofacism gets out, those who are so oppose to you Robert are going to try to smear you in so many different ways. Keep up the good work and God Bless you.
Off Topic:
I've been having a conversion with a Muslim in a comments section on a site. After getting past the usual hostility, he seems to be coming around, a little. However, I've reached a point where, well, let me just paste here his last comment.
Any suggestions/thoughts?
How can Jews have these corrupted ideas?-Pelayo
There were actually Jews in Germany who supported Hitler before 1933 and after 1933. It was a pretty big group, too. (Not the majority, but a significant minority.) It's the truth. They were nuts. What else can be said about them? These people are nuts, too.
This is a little off the subject - but I found it very interesting. The first map is a global interactive map and points out the muslim violence or terrorist threats that might have been thwarted in time (perp unknown). The second map is a map that shows illegal alien criminal activity. I am including this one since some of it might be terrorists entering and causing problems.
global incident map - very interesting - updates every 360 seconds.

Lucy was the codename of Karl Sedlacek.
That I knew from military files.
I believe it was mentioned in one book:
Stalin, by Edouard Radzinsky (a very revealing book on that psychopath, and shed's a lot more light than the left feels confortable with but that's another story).
Yes, Hitler's henchmen did suspect, and find out, starting with Adm. Wilhelm Canaris, whough he wasn't a communist...his info was leaked TO the rote kapelle network and the others.
Canaris and Oster were executed (though he was dismissed early 44 first, Oster later) by slow strangulation, (Flossenberg Concentration camp) along with thousands of others since it fell along the same timeline as the bomb plot. They might've survived the war, as American forces liberated the camp just a few days later.
Sedlacek's last known whereabouts are King Street, East London.
So you're pretty accurate, Frank.
jcom972-
Im glad I now know "Lucy"'s name (Karl Sedlacek). I read in a NY Times book review (that mentioned Lucy) that he died in 1958. He was some kind of Catholic youth leader in the 1920's and 1930's in Germany. He was very brave (and as prudent as Fitzgerald in evading being identified). The Nazis had a huge reward for his capture, but he kept eluding them. They never got him.
In any case, I want to learn more re this and we'll talk when I know more. Thank you for your info, Jcom. I appreciate it.
He was a Czech intelligence officer (though yes, he did spend time in Germany) when the nazis took over.
He was also a communist, at first, feigned cooperation with the nazis vs. the USSR, and served as liaison between the Wehrmacht & Swiss diplomatic duties, so the nazis never got wise, as he was constantly travelling.
After the war, he realized what the communists became and quickly defected to the west and spent the rest of his life trying to make toys. He died a pauper.
There are plenty of books and data on the subject.
Glad that helped.
jcom972-
Thank you, again. I have not thought about this for awhile. This guy may have failed at making toys after the war, but he and Oster made a Bozo out of Hitler and Co during the war.
I do know that the info of Oster and Lucy were used to validate Ultra. It was worth a hundred divisions to the allies. At one of the Fuhrer conferences (I think it's mentioned in Toland's bio of Hitler) Hitler said he was convinced that there was a spy at headquarters. Hitler said, with eyes gazing about him like searchlights, "they (meaning the allies) are anticipating our every move".
They are getting shrill because they are being backed into a corner. They see the tide is turning and that the days of the leftist/Islamist axis dictating terms to everyone and requiring submission to their politburo of thought are numbered. They are getting more shrill because hand in hand with this, they are having a harder and harder time just intimidating people into submission. More and more people, on campus and off, are mad as hell and won't take this insane multicultural totalitarianism any more.
I like how Ann Coulter points out that "college" is synonymous with "madrassa" in her humerous new book. How true!
She also says that Jews need to be perfected by becoming Christians. Hey Ann! I have a much bigger perfection project for you, know what I mean?
r_not...I did not have the illegal incident map...but I do now...thanks...
Your typical moonbat Vichy Left guilt-ridden self-hater is just an insecure, overeducated, lazy, nonproductive neo-Marxist who doesn't even know why. They are all about "feelings." They don't feel good. They feel bad for all the bad stuff happening. They feel bad for all the bad things happening to "innocent" people. They don't want to really think about what's wrong, because they would rather "feel" things about what is wrong. It's so much easier, and so much more gratifying, to find the nearest approximation of the racist imperialist white male and lay all the pain at his doorstep. Walk away. Wash the hands. Plug in the ipod, call up some friends, get stoned, and sneer viciously at the total enemy: the guy who swings a hammer all day, raises a family, hunts, pays his taxes, goes to church on Sunday morning and the NASCAR race on Sunday afternoon.
Take a good look at this species. Because when the Islamonazis come in and start the public beheadings this will be the first group to start naming names.
Cowards who won't even stand up for themselves, much less their families, their communities, or their country. Fuck 'em. The Left in this country is irrelevant to what we're about in the struggle against Islam. They should be regarded as stupid children and called as such at each turn.
"They see the tide is turning and that the days of the leftist/Islamist axis dictating terms to everyone and requiring submission to their politburo of thought are numbered."
hence the fact that they will up the ante and become more violent. impossible? no, communism has caused over 90 million deaths, a genocide of their own people to enforce their idealology on the masses.
next will come the bombs from the far left, allied with teh jihadists.
wasn't pim fortuyn assasinated by a far left member? marxists also failed to bomb nick griffin in scandanavia. (the bomb went off before he got on i think?)
we all need to watch our backs.
Robert, I've long been a jihadwatch supporter, mainly because islam threatens the rights of me and my friends (many gay). So there are some points raised on http://www.defendcriticalthinking.org/ that I would really like you to answer here, if you can find the time:
"Horowitz's speakers for IFAW include biblical literalists like Frank Pastore who uphold the execution of gays and the equation of abortion with murder."
Is this person a speaker and has he expressed those views - I can't find them online? If he has, why is he speaker?
"It's notable that the IFAW petition includes the demand for "The equality of dignity of women and men." Not equality, but the "equality of dignity" – a meaningless phrase which can be twisted to fit the most patriarchal of viewpoints."
Why doesn't the petition clearly state legal equality of women and men???
the revolutionary commnist party of america are a massive threat, a danger to democracy
http://rwor.org/mlm-e.htm
they actually follow the same genocidal model for governance as stalin and mao.
and they have the audacity to say that we are bigots??
Yes, much shrillness.
I'm convinced that there's only one cure for these leftist, and especially their feminist allies -- a couple semesters at a Saudi university.
A daily whipping by virtues police for unIslamic dress, are daring to assert their equality with male students, should be about all they need to complete their education.
It's not just Islamo-fascists who are getting hysterical. It's all the people who want to see and hear no evil. They don't want to hear anything that is in challenging or confrontational. They don't mind it from the student leftist radicals, who they view as just kids being kids. And they are just plain afraid of offending the hyper-aggressive MSA types, because everyone is so afraid of being labeled a witch/Islamophobe. So it's also the more "moderate" liberals who are coming out against all this because they hate to see anything rocking the boat.
Folks, it's a small foxhole and we're all in this together. Sadly the vast majority of Americans and Europeans we are trying to protect are either over-educated self-hating pariahs or imbecilic lazy dumbshits. Islam is the monster loosed upon the world...anybody up for some sword and sorcery? Because that is what it will come down to. This is real biblical stuff.
To love America, to love England, to love Germany, to love Holland, to love Australia, to love Canada etc. etc. etc....it is really just dawning on me that to take such a position makes us anachronisms in the New World Order.
Our worst enemies are amongst us. Islam is just taking advantage.
Sir:
As you enter the dens of insanity that pass as pinnacles of 'higher education', I applaud your tireless efforts at true education, true debate.
I just finished reading the transcripts of the 'Islam Symposium: A Religion of Peace or War', as recorded on FrontPage (online) Magazine (March 04, 2003) here:
http://www.frontpagemagazine.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID={3549AA6B-3F90-494B-ABD4-25057C91DA3A}
For anyone hoping to get even a baseline understanding of the issue, before being drowned-out by the hysterical canard of 'Islamophobia', this should be a required start.
Before anyone on the campus of Columbia University (for example) blasts you with invective or prevents you from speaking, they should read, thoroughly, what you've said on the issue.
You are at the vanguard of growing awareness in the American public over the realities we will inevitably have to face.
Thank you for your scholarship, your integrity, and your balls.
All I can say is Michael Savage is correct- "liberalism is a mental disorder!!"
Merriam-Webster Online defines bigot as "a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially one who regards or treats the members of a group...with hatred and intolerance."
To paraphrase George Orwell in 'Animal Farm', all beliefs are equal, but some beliefs are more equal than others. The result is extreme intolerance towards those of us who see the islamo-fascist enemy for who he is from people who talk so much about tolerating all views. Their argument is glaringly illogical and self-refuting.
I am in full agreement with the blogger who stated, "I save my breath for Americans, real Americans, people with an innate understanding of the price of freedom and the cost of allowing sluggards, slackers and traitors to have a disproportionate voice in America."
The price of freedom is high indeed.
May the Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week succeed beyond our wildest expectations!
Just ask the protesters:
HAVE YOU READ THE KORAN?
Usually this will stun them into silence momentarily as they think:
"You mean, I should actually know something about the subject I am passionately yelling about? Gee, never thought of that..."
Fools need to have their folly made transparent.
And fast.
These people are in a real dither over IFAW.
According to them, all the speakers for IFAW, are eeeevil people. I would like to see Ann Coulter show up and push these people over the edge.
gonna hand out koran hate speech quotes, anyone know of any good sites which has a list of them, in easy to read "student" format?
gotta get the points over in a few sentences.
plus im handing out anti communist literature.
will i be the one who will be dealing out hate speech on wednesday?
Ummm, beard,
before you ask them if they've READ the koran, ya need to first ask them if they CAN READ, PERIOD...lol
Hell, even watched as one protestor couldn't even point out IRAN (or iraq, or saudi, or even their own country for that matter!), even when the letters I-R-A-N stared him right in the face!
Remember, most of them came from "soshyowlized pubik sckrewelz", and can't spell either.
(I'm not makin' that up either-seen it myself-many of them can't even spell for squat!)
But don't expect any changes-they'll just try to find a way, however ridiculous, to turn the tables, especially when you prove to them what a moron they are.
lol
The Minnesota Daily article linked by LGF is rather amusing.
Kleiber needs to understand that the very notion of Islamo-Fascism is a racist concept and any speaker that speaks in such an event is a racist. These speakers are not criticizing any Arab country or particular policy but instead are attacking the faith of 1.5 billion people by likening Islam to Fascism.
Isn't it a bit more racist to suggest that Islam is a biological property, and not a cultural one? If criticizing or attacking Islam is racism, then clearly Islam must be genetically ingrained in Muslims. Otherwise it doesn't make any sense to accuse Kleiber of racism.
Or how would Kleiber feel about a West-Fascism Awareness Week that seeks to show how Western women are oppressed as sex objects and citing the human trafficking problem where women are sold as sex slaves?
Slavery is not only highly illegal in the West, but morally abhorred by its people. Slavers don't do what they do because of some cultural or religious principle, they do it because they're immoral criminals who see slavery as a good way to make money.
The way Muslims treat women is perfectly normal in their culture, and not some criminal anomaly that everyone is opposed to. Most of it is based on religious principles. That's the difference between crime in the West and "crime" in the Muslim world.
Islamism is a crime against humanity.
Show this to your moonbat friends...
http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/the_truth_about_islam/index.html
Puke. Watch them scramble their brains for an explanation as to how this is all to blame of the racist imperialist West. Vomit again.

How can a Muslim criticizing Islam and still call himself a Muslim? Criticizing Islam=criticizing Allah.
Any suggestions/thoughts?
Posted by: deesine
Doesn’t seem like you are getting much help here so I will leap into the breach with a thought.
I would change the direction of the conversation, do not confront, but simply tell a story. It is not necessary to criticize God. Islam comes from Muhammad’s’ word, as relayed to him from the angel Gabriel, as relayed to him from God. I would focus on Muhammad’s’ life and deeds as set down in the “Sirat Rasul Allah” and the Hadith. Take your time, go into it in detail. (Roberts book "The Truth About Muhammad" will help)
Start with Muhammad’s murderous raids on caravans, then his commands to murder those who spoke out against him. Discuss the poetess Marwan whose child was pulled from her breast to allow the passage of the sword. Detail how he had the Jew Kinana tortured to reveal the location of treasure and then raped his wife that evening. Relate what happened to the 3 Jewish tribes in Medina – especially the Banu Qurayzah. Speak of the revelations that came to the Prophet as he committed these deeds – such as “All married women are forbidden unto you save those (captives) whom your right hand possess…” (Qur’an 4:28). Which gave permission for the rape of any married women that the Muslims captured. There is much, much more like this.
Compose the story of Muhammad’s life before hand, use only Islamic sources and when you are ready, slowly and gently tell the tale of Muhammad.
The hate sites known as CAIR and its local CAIR chapters are, as most probably know already, defaming Robert once again.
"'Islamo-Fascism’ Week Speaker Meets with European 'Neo-Nazis'"
Of course, as you also probably know, they are also portraying the HLF mistrial as:
"CAIR: HLF Mistrial a 'Stunning Defeat' for Prosecution"
From Mike Adams:
"Islamic advocacy of violence is not classified as “hate speech” because it induces fear, not anger.
This, of course, explains the failure of speech codes (and probably multi-culturalism in general). Since the enforcement of the codes relies largely on the emotional reaction of the listener rather than the content of the speech, the codes create insurmountable problems within both the First and Fourteenth Amendments.
And, of course, it explains the success of Islamic terrorism. It is indeed a strategy that induces fear in an effort to destroy the proper function of the First Amendment through threats and intimidation too serious to simply ignore.
But, of course, this is not as it should be. And I intend to offer a solution to the problem when I speak during Islamic Fascism Awareness Week. Like true First Amendment terrorists, some Muslims are trying to prevent the week’s events from happening. But the true American patriots who outnumber them will not be deterred. They simply will not provide the fear necessary for the survival of their tyranny and the destruction of our precious liberty."

"Islamo-fascists getting hysterical"
A headline clearly designed to make them even more hysterical -- which of course makes the headline funny. At least if you are not an Islamo-fascist.
Davegreybeard:
You tell the story well yourself. Makes me realize I need to go back to Robert's book on this and to the other sources and really learn the story cold, along with the citations to Islamic sources, so I can tell it as well as you.
And it should be told as a story, a true story, not a mere catalog of events. Unlike a catalog, a story enchants, and sticks in people's minds. That's why biography is one of the more powerful ways of learning about history. I learned far more about ancient Greece by studying and memorizing Plutarch's Lives than I learned from several top-ranked historical surveys of ancient Greece.
good point, traeh

Defending Islamofascism
It's a valid term. Here's why.
By Christopher Hitchens
Posted Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at 11:33 AM ET
Osama Bin Laden
The attempt by David Horowitz and his allies to launch "Islamofascism Awareness Week" on American campuses has been met with a variety of responses. One of these is a challenge to the validity of the term itself. It's quite the done thing, in liberal academic circles, to sneer at any comparison between fascist and jihadist ideology. People like Tony Judt write to me to say, in effect, that it's ahistorical and simplistic to do so. And in some media circles, another kind of reluctance applies: Alan Colmes thinks that one shouldn't use the word Islamic even to designate jihad, because to do so is to risk incriminating an entire religion. He and others don't want to tag Islam even in its most extreme form with a word as hideous as fascism. Finally, I have seen and heard it argued that the term is unfair or prejudiced because it isn't applied to any other religion.
Well, that last claim is certainly not true. It was once very common, especially on the left, to prefix the word fascism with the word clerical. This was to recognize the undeniable fact that, from Spain to Croatia to Slovakia, there was a very direct link between fascism and the Roman Catholic Church. More recently, Yeshayahu Leibowitz, editor of the Encyclopaedia Hebraica, coined the term Judeo-Nazi to describe the Messianic settlers who moved onto the occupied West Bank after 1967. So, there need be no self-pity among Muslims about being "singled out" on this point.
The term Islamofascism was first used in 1990 in Britain's Independent newspaper by Scottish writer Malise Ruthven, who was writing about the way in which traditional Arab dictatorships used religious appeals in order to stay in power. I didn't know about this when I employed the term "fascism with an Islamic face" to describe the attack on civil society on Sept. 11, 2001, and to ridicule those who presented the attack as some kind of liberation theology in action. "Fascism with an Islamic face" is meant to summon a dual echo of both Alexander Dubcek and Susan Sontag (if I do say so myself), and in any case, it can't be used for everyday polemical purposes, so the question remains: Does Bin Ladenism or Salafism or whatever we agree to call it have anything in common with fascism?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think yes. The most obvious points of comparison would be these: Both movements are based on a cult of murderous violence that exalts death and destruction and despises the life of the mind. ("Death to the intellect! Long live death!" as Gen. Francisco Franco's sidekick Gonzalo Queipo de Llano so pithily phrased it.) Both are hostile to modernity (except when it comes to the pursuit of weapons), and both are bitterly nostalgic for past empires and lost glories. Both are obsessed with real and imagined "humiliations" and thirsty for revenge. Both are chronically infected with the toxin of anti-Jewish paranoia (interestingly, also, with its milder cousin, anti-Freemason paranoia). Both are inclined to leader worship and to the exclusive stress on the power of one great book. Both have a strong commitment to sexual repression—especially to the repression of any sexual "deviance"—and to its counterparts the subordination of the female and contempt for the feminine. Both despise art and literature as symptoms of degeneracy and decadence; both burn books and destroy museums and treasures.
Fascism (and Nazism) also attempted to counterfeit the then-success of the socialist movement by issuing pseudo-socialist and populist appeals. It has been very interesting to observe lately the way in which al-Qaida has been striving to counterfeit and recycle the propaganda of the anti-globalist and green movements. (See my column on Osama Bin Laden's Sept. 11 statement.)
There isn't a perfect congruence. Historically, fascism laid great emphasis on glorifying the nation-state and the corporate structure. There isn't much of a corporate structure in the Muslim world, where the conditions often approximate more nearly to feudalism than capitalism, but Bin Laden's own business conglomerate is, among other things, a rogue multinational corporation with some links to finance-capital. As to the nation-state, al-Qaida's demand is that countries like Iraq and Saudi Arabia be dissolved into one great revived caliphate, but doesn't this have points of resemblance with the mad scheme of a "Greater Germany" or with Mussolini's fantasy of a revived Roman empire?
Technically, no form of Islam preaches racial superiority or proposes a master race. But in practice, Islamic fanatics operate a fascistic concept of the "pure" and the "exclusive" over the unclean and the kufar or profane. In the propaganda against Hinduism and India, for example, there can be seen something very like bigotry. In the attitude to Jews, it is clear that an inferior or unclean race is being talked about (which is why many Muslim extremists like the grand mufti of Jerusalem gravitated to Hitler's side). In the attempted destruction of the Hazara people of Afghanistan, who are ethnically Persian as well as religiously Shiite, there was also a strong suggestion of "cleansing." And, of course, Bin Laden has threatened force against U.N. peacekeepers who might dare interrupt the race-murder campaign against African Muslims that is being carried out by his pious Sudanese friends in Darfur.
This makes it permissible, it seems to me, to mention the two phenomena in the same breath and to suggest that they constitute comparable threats to civilization and civilized values. There is one final point of comparison, one that is in some ways encouraging. Both these totalitarian systems of thought evidently suffer from a death wish. It is surely not an accident that both of them stress suicidal tactics and sacrificial ends, just as both of them would obviously rather see the destruction of their own societies than any compromise with infidels or any dilution of the joys of absolute doctrinal orthodoxy. Thus, while we have a duty to oppose and destroy these and any similar totalitarian movements, we can also be fairly sure that they will play an unconscious part in arranging for their own destruction, as well.
Wait ... Penn State MSA Chair Samir Malik. And Penn State's MSa pressured the College Republicans into renaming the week something else ... Samir .... Malik.
Now... not to jump to any conclusions here, but Samir Malik ... that would be an Arabic name, would it not? Chances are way better than average that Samir is at least a cultural Muslim, if not a practicing one. Which makes one wonder if there's some sort of preferential treatment of a particular religion here that just possibly might be influenced from the top of that organization.
Folks, "Islamo" is the modifier here, not the noun. But 1984's Newspeak his here. "Hate" or "Racist" = "Ungood". Of course, EngSoc spent a little time whittling language down so nobody could think critically anymore. So they're not quite there yet. But they're moving in that direction.
Just an example of how insanely hysterical these hypersensitive hypocrites really are...as well as their dhimmiwitted sheeple lackeys:
(from none other than the off-the-kook-fringe-edge SPindymedia @ UC-Santa Cruz, aka, The Crown Jewel of Brownshirt propaganda in the US-yes, worse than Berzerkely!)
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2007/10/23/18455423.php
This insanity says it all...
...and speaking of hysteria,
makes ya wonder how all these fires out here REALLY started.
One here, one there...that's no biggie...hell, santa ana's start fires here like monsoons cause floods elsehwere *yawn*...
BUT: several massive ones...?
Starting in such strategic places...?
(also note how eereily close they were to such notable colleges...like Pepperdine...now fires on all sides of UCLA, USC, and just today, US-Santa Barbara? HMMMmmmmmm! Cross-reference those coINKaDINKs with IAW schedule @ http://www.frontpagemag.com/ see left bar for schedule and locations...voila!)
All in areas where nearly ALL are affluent...?
(how many poor neighborhoods did ya see get burned? those are AWFULLY picky fires!)
All within 48 hours of each other...?
And now, so close to becoming one massive conflagration...???
(forget the fact it's so timely with IAW)
The area covers Santa Barbara to the Mexican Border.
230 miles(375km)...
While it may be humorous to wonder how many durkanese just so happened to be travelling in the countryside, with "fireworks" in the trunk, out for a joyride...one thing is inescapable...
It makes ya wonder....just a coincidence, right?
"As the Algerian sociologist Marieme Helie Lucas explains, the term “Islamo-Fascism” was “initially coined by Algerian people struggling for democracy, against armed fundamentalist forces decimating people in our country, then later operating in Europe, where a number of us had taken refuge.”--R. Spencer
The term is useful, it fixes a label on Political Islam, and puts its apologists on the defensive, for nothing is worse in their own vocabulary than to be called a "fascist." We can debate, like Daniel Pipes, whether political Islam is more like communism than fascism (do you prefer your concentration camp in red or black, monsieur?), but the Islamofascist label is sticking. It works. It drives them crazy.
traeh,
When I became aware of the threat of Islam (after reading 10 books and studying 5 different translations of the Qur’an) I tried to inform as many people as I could. I was quickly frustrated by (among other things) the short attention span of many listeners and the limited time available. I also found I was frequently unable to efficiently convey enough of the core tenets of Islam to illustrate the magnitude of the threat in the minds of many people. I would begin with their attention but all to soon their eyes would begin to glaze over.
I decided what was required was a 2 sided leaflet, something that is short enough that most people would read yet with enough well organized, concentrated information to make an impression. A lot of effort was put into selection of content, format and presentation. With this tool, the need for urgency in the conversation is eliminated, all that is required is a pleasant casual conversation, just enough to pique interest. Your carefully crafted paper, read by your acquaintance, in private, at his leisure, does the heavy lifting.
I carry several copies of 2 leaflets on Islam and Muhammad (folded so they fit neatly into a (shirt pocket) wherever I go.
The first leaflet is mainly about the content of the Qur’an. The second leaflet explains how the Qur’an came into being and who and what Muhammad was.
One leaflet ”Three Questions for Infidels” has a short intro with the question “Why do they hate us?” followed by 20 quotes from the Qur’an. These are: 9:111, 47:4, 4:38, 9:5(verse of the sword), 9:123, 4:91, 3:114, 3:195, 2:189, 4:76, 5:56, 8:12, 8:39, 8:58, 8:67, 9:23, 9:29, 9:33, 9:41, 47:35. The reader is encouraged to purchase a Qur’an and verify for himself what he has just read. The final question is “Have the Islamic terrorists radicalized Islam or is it the other way around?”
The second leaflet is a biography of Muhammad which includes among other things, his “marriage” to 9 year old Aisha, the beheading of the men of the Banu Qurayzah, various assassinations, several torture events, and several rapes committed by Muhammad. Also included is a description of the legalization of the rape of married women “All married women are forbidden unto you save those (captives) whom your right had possesses…” 4:28. Material in both leaflets is taken strictly from Islamic sources (Qur’an, “Sirat Rasul Allah” and various Hadith).
I do not have the heavy artillery of speaking engagements, or a web site, or a book to awaken people to this threat on a large scale. Even if I had these resources I have neither the developed skill nor the time to use them. What I CAN use is the literary equivalent of a rifle for single, point targets.
I have had good success with these “leaflets” and they are usually much appreciated. My motto is “spreading the word of Allah, one Infidel at a time”. It is not on the scale of Spencer or Fitzgerald but is something that I can do when I am “out and about” and I find it very satisfying.
Davegreybeard & CAIRfreefuture,
Thanks for the advice. I was looking for general direction and you supplied it. I have The Truth About Muhammad and will start drawing from that. Up till this point, our converSATION has been pretty general: I'm trying to push the idea of reason, rationality, & critical examination being essential to discovering truth. He brought up truth. I've had several conversations with Muslims online, and in none was the mileage this good. Thanks again!
deesine,
I realize I risk "overworking" this - but I can't help myself.
I would go slowly in this and get your correspondent to agree on each point of fact before proceeding on. The danger is that you may “overload” your pen pal at some point, if the information comes to quickly. Play him like a big fish on light tackle.
Sounds like a fascinating project and well worth the effort. A Muslim who can be enticed to question is golden. – Good luck!
Davegreybeard
Your leaflet idea is excellent! This is exactly the kind of effective action through which grassroots counter-jihadists can make a positive contribution to the struggle.
Perhaps one of the JW regulars with a website would be kind enough to put jpegs of the leaflets up so that others can copy or download them, for use themselves? (If you have no objections, of course).
Matamoros,
I would welcome any assistance in distributing these. As I mentioned, I do not have a web site so getting these out on the “Internets” (as Robert is fond of saying) is a problem I have not solved yet. I tried starting a blog, but a MS word document apparently will not transfer without destroying (totally!) the format. I have started playing with “Google Documents” as a way to share these, but I have not perfected this project yet.
Communication of addresses is the current sticking point. I would be glad to send these to whoever wants them as an attachment to an Email or even to a street address. I appreciate your interest and welcome any ideas you have.
Davegreybeard said:
You could try using MS Frontpage, open the MS Word document, and save as .html, they might translate all the formatting for you.
If not, you could learn HTML and CSS (both are easy enough, it just takes futzing, and both have free lessons on the web, just Yahoo! or Google it).
No matter what, don't give up.
CAIRfreefuture,
I *am* informing myself, by searching online and by asking here. I've still had no reply to my most important question, based on the actual wording of the Horowitz petition:
Why doesn't the petition clearly demand equal legal rights for women and men?
Regarding the Cold War with Russia Ronald Reagan once said:
"Here is my strategy on the Cold War: We win, they lose."
I think Ronald Reagan would apply the same statement regarding the war against Islamo-Fascists: We win, they lose!
Well, well...guess who else jumped on the hate-IAW mob...
the sorosista HITlery

Lili,
The core of my soul is wracked with grief for the women oppressed and mutilated by Islam, they bear the full force of this brutal ideology. Women have been the light of my life as long as I can remember. Mother, lovers, friends - mysterious beautiful wonderful creatures. As one man said “The society that oppresses women is the society where men will oppress other men”.
I understand you are gay (as is Irshad Manji who wrote the very readable and educational “The Trouble With Islam Today”). This is not IN ANY WAY a battle that should cause even the slightest division between the gay community and the heterosexual one – it should bring us together – we have a common cause in this.
Please join us and welcome!
Davegreybeard
I am not gay, don't know how you got that impression. I have many gay friends and have often stated this, for the information of anyone not particularly 'right wing' looking at this site.
Thanks for the invitation to join. I actually joined jihadwatch a few years ago, my posts go back that far.
I STILL want to know why the petition doesn't demand equal legal rights for women and men.
So should everyone who really wants equal rights.
Lili,
Please pardon my (several) uninformed assumptions.
I believe most of us strongly support equal rights in the broad sense (equal pay for equal work, equal opportunity, etc.) and I have not sensed that this was ever in question here.
What is the problem that your proposed solution would address?
