Muslim student leaders are appealing for understanding in the wake of a controversy surrounding the halal menu at a U of T Scarborough campus restaurant."It's being blown out of proportion," said Emad Alarashi, president of the campus's Muslim Students Association.
The controversy began last May when the student-subsidized Bluff's Restaurant, owned by the student union and located in the student centre, began offering halal-certified meat options to cater to Muslim customers.
Halal ("lawful") foods are those that adhere to Islamic conventions on diet and meat and dairy preparations.
However because Bluff's serves alcohol, the 500-student Muslim association has refused to endorse the restaurant for its membership.
As well, some Muslim students feared the Bluff's menu addition would undermine ongoing efforts to persuade the Scarborough Campus Students Union to find space for an all-halal eatery on campus.
Student union president Rob Wulkan said that possibility still exists and the Bluff's operates as an arm's-length company and makes its own decisions.
This has received wide coverage in the local press and talk radio, and that's a good thing.
The response has been universally negative and I do believe people are finally beginning to wake up to the threat of creeping sharia.
This makes my blood boil.

Once we have at least two people from every state, we can agree on a mailing date and then each of us can mail a copy of the book on that date.
Right before each of us mails the book, we’ll issue a press release to media outlets in as many states as possible, and in that way announce and explain the mailing. And perhaps we can come up with some other ways of maximizing the effectiveness of this project and gaining as much positive attention as possible.
One of the project's volunteers suggested contacting Rep. Sue Myrick, who started the Anti-Jihad Caucus in Congress. When we reach the goal of having all 100 senators covered, I'll call Rep. Myrick's office and see if she can help. I've called several congressional offices to get advice on how best to proceed.

This is a campus reataurant, operated by the university? The horror*, I live near a very large land grant southern state university, and alcohol is allowed nowhere, not even in any stadium during games.

I believe that wine is taken as a sacrament, is it not? I don't believe that you can tample on one religious group's rights in order to placate another.

Let the picky bastards prepare their own meals and eat them in their dorms. Who cares if they get their "halal" food? For that matter, let them all starve. Why is it up to the university to make sure they get an islamic diet? That is their problem; they are the oddballs and nobody should have to cater to their incessant demands.
Those people enrage me! What are they good for? What do they contribute to any society? Why should anyone have to tolerate their endless yammering, bitching, moaning, complaining and unparalleled ARROGANCE?!

If, God forbid, the MSA get their alcohol-free all-halal restaurant, non-Muslim U of T students should make a point of eating there, in large numbers. (The food will most likely be quite tasty and healthy, after all, and an occasional break from the beer/wine with lunch would do you all some good.) Hell, pack the place, so that some of the hardliners can't get a table and have to either starve or go back to that filthy kuffir place for their lunch. Don't go out of your way to be offensive or disrespectful; just treat it like any other restaurant. What these students really want is a Muslim-only space, which they know they can't get legally, yet. Don't let them even start to think they've won.
A reminder that the MSA is a heavily Saudi (i.e., Wahabi) and Muslim Brotherhood-connected organization.
This is the same group agitating for special Muslim-only gender-segregated "prayer rooms" on Canadian campuses, whingeing about non-existent "harassment" and "discrimination", and threatening violence or organizing riots in order to prevent invited speakers from expressing views they don't like.

MY MESSAGE:
The Canadian Islamic Congress claims to be a mainstream organization representing all Muslims in Canada, but it is not; it is an extremist, ultra-conservative Wahabiist organization that promotes and follows the intolerant and fundamentalist form of Islam as practiced in Saudi Arabia – a place where all women, Muslim or not, are required by law to cover their heads.
The hijab (head covering) is not voluntary or a “personal choice” in this form of Islam. Failing to wear it could get a woman arrested, beaten, or killed. How ironic to say that, “You don’t have to be a Muslim woman to wear a hijab.” You don’t have to be a Muslim woman to be forced to wear a hijab, in some parts of the world. To encourage non-Muslim women to don this garment of oppression as an expression of feel-good solidarity is a cynical perversion of Canada’s multicultural ideals.
As a Wahaibiist organization the CIC promotes gender apartheid, even in the realm of medical care. This is what their website has to say on the issue of medical care of Muslim women and girls:
"Medical Care for Muslim Girls and Women
Privacy:
· Only female doctors, nurses, medical aides, technicians, or any other medical professionals should deal directly with Muslim girls and women in hospitals. Only in life or death situations is this rule waived.
· Only women can share a hospital room or ward with a female Muslim patient.
· Privacy should be carefully observed by all (knock on the door, announce your arrival, etc.).
· Muslim women should be provided with hospital gowns that are long, with long sleeves. If such clothing is unavailable, a Muslim woman should be allowed to use her own gown.
· Privacy should be observed during physical examinations, massage, therapeutic treatments, etc., exposing only necessary parts of the body. The rest of the body remains covered.
Medical emergencies:

Any organization that advocates placing such restrictions in the way of women and girls requiring medical care cannot be truly concerned about women's health.

That such an organization is jumping on the bandwagon of "Breast Cancer Awareness" is obscene.
This is the same kind of gender apartheid that caused over 50 young girls to be burned or suffocated to death in a school fire in Saudi Arabia in 2002. They had been crammed into a small, overcrowded, firetrap of a school, because Wahabiism requires boys and girls to be “educated” separately, when it deigns to allow girls to be educated at all. When the girls tried to escape the burning building, they were beaten back by Saudi religious police because they had not had time to put on their head coverings. To the Wahabiist way of thinking, these children’s modesty was more important than their lives.
The CIC has known terrorism supporters and sympathizers in its leadership. Its current President, Mohamed Elmasry, publicly stated that he believed all Israelis over the age of 18 were legitimate targets for Palestinian suicide bombers. The organization stood behind him and refused to condemn his remarks.
The CIC has also been accused of inciting violence and threats against moderate Muslim leaders. Assaults and attacks against moderate Muslim leaders, such as Tarek Fatah, former President of the more moderate and liberal Muslim Canadian Congress, including threats to their families, occurred after the CIC leadership publicly declared such people to be apostates and enemies of Muslims. Fatah resigned from his position because he feared for his safety and the safety of his family.
Wahabiism espouses zero-tolerance of homosexuality. The CIC is openly anti-homosexual and has excoriated reformist Muslim writer Irshad Manji for being a lesbian. It is opposed to gay marriage and the rights of gays to have and raise children, and encourages and promotes homophobic attitudes in its membership. It is deafeningly silent on the fact that in Wahabiist Saudi Arabia, gay men and women can be, and are, flogged, jailed, or executed for sex with other consenting adults.
Don't "Wear a Pink Hijab." Step on a pink hijab. Or any colour hijab, for that matter. Tell these hypocritical fools on Friday Oct. 26 exactly what you think of them and their ridiculous idea.
A reminder of the old Arab expression:

(Western translation: "Give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile.")
Or, "Give 'em a plate of halal food, and they'll take a whole restaurant."

No offense taken. But it seems a lot of people can't get their heads around the fact that she's a lesbian who claims to be a Muslim, not an "ex-Muslim." I don't think that necessarily means she's a fraud; it could just mean she's honest.

BTW, apparently there are now a slew of letters written to the U of T student newspaper basically telling the Muslim Students Association to kiss their collective butts, if they don't like eating with infidels. And they've actually been published! Good for them. There's some hope for the kids today, after all.

I work in Manchester, England near an area known as "Curry Mile" due to the large number of Indian restaurants. All of these restaurants are run by muslims. ALL of these restaurants serve alcohol. If they didn't serve alcohol they wouldn't get enough customers to stay profitable. Why is there no outcry about these premises? Are they too eager to make a profit?
BTW I don't eat in any of these places, Manchester also has excellent restaurants that serve a wide variety of foods at reasonable prices including Chinese and Italian.
