"U.S. commander warns of Latin America terrorist threat," by Angus MacSwan for Reuters:
SAO PAULO (Reuters) - Islamic terrorist groups have networks in Latin America and the Caribbean and could use the region as a base to launch attacks on the United States, the senior U.S. military commander for the region says.
"For sure, members, facilitators, and sympathizers of Islamic terrorist organizations are present in our hemisphere," Adm. Jim Stavridis, head of the U.S. Southern Command, wrote in an article in the fall edition of Americas Quarterly journal, obtained by Reuters before publication.
"We consider Latin America and the Caribbean as being highly likely bases for future terrorist threats to the U.S. and others."
The Trinidadian and Guyanese connections to the JFK airport plot of this past summer, mentioned below, lend credence to that.
U.S. officials have warned of a militant presence in Latin America since the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. They have provided little concrete evidence and Brazil, which has a large Arab population, and some other regional governments have played down the threat.
But Stavridis was reiterating U.S. concerns after police said in June they had foiled a plot to sabotage New York's John F. Kennedy airport by suspects linked to the Caribbean.
The Lebanon-based Hezbollah was the most prominent group in Latin America, Stavridis said. Most of its activity appeared to be fund-raising but "there are indications of an operational presence and the potential for attacks."
A multinational task force has been set up in the so-called tri-border where Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay meet, an area reputed to be a hotbed of money-laundering and smuggling.
Venezuela, a known area of Hizballah activity, must also not be overlooked, particularly when one considers Hugo Chávez' close relationships with figures like Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The head of border controls for Brazil's Federal Police disagreed with the admiral's contention.
"If I were a terrorist I'd launch an attack from England. Latinos face 10 times the controls that Europeans do at U.S. borders," Mauro Sposito said in an interview.
Brazilian authorities had no indication of terrorist cells in the tri-border region, he said, although they were aware of financial contributions to groups such as Hezbollah, which Brazil does not classify as a terrorist organization.
"They legally send money through Paraguay to the Hezbollah - it's a political party," Sposito said.
Yep thats right the International Community has made terrorism into a political party.Legitimized it and created avenues to fund it.Lets not forget how it protects it too.
(PLEASE POST THIS ANNOUNCEMENT AT OTHER WEBSITES)
The Jihad Awareness Project (to wake up the U.S. Senate and Congress) currently has 109 volunteers in 44 states.
WE ARE STILL SEEKING ADDITIONAL CITIZEN VOLUNTEERS
FROM ALL 50 STATES, ESPECIALLY THE FOLLOWING 6:
Delaware
Mississippi
North Dakota
South Dakota
Vermont
West Virginia
THE PROJECT: We're looking for people in every state of the Union who would be willing to purchase, from Amazon or any other source, a copy of Robert Spencer's new book Religion of Peace? Why Christianity Is And Islam Isn't and mail it, on an agreed upon date, to one of the senators in your state. We want to get the book simultaneously to all 100 senators, in order to send a strong message. If we get more than two people per state, books can also be sent to the U.S. House of Representatives.
If you'd like to participate (or you just have questions), please write to me at traehnam@yahoo.com under the subject heading "Senate," and tell me the state your senator represents, and a nickname. No need for your real name. And I will never share your email address with anyone, not even with other volunteers for this project.
And visit jihadawareness.blogspot.com to get more info on this project and to leave comments other volunteers can read. You can also see there the growing list of participants in this project, and the states their senators represent. I've also designed a graphic that might amuse. Scroll down when you get to the site.
Once we have at least two people from every state, we can agree on a mailing date and then each of us can mail a copy of the book on that date.
Right before each of us mails the book, we’ll issue a press release to media outlets in as many states as possible, and in that way announce and explain the mailing. And perhaps we can come up with some other ways of maximizing the effectiveness of this project and gaining as much positive attention as possible.
One of the project's volunteers suggested contacting Rep. Sue Myrick, who started the Anti-Jihad Caucus in Congress. When we reach the goal of having all 100 senators covered, I'll call Rep. Myrick's office and see if she can help. I've called several congressional offices to get advice on how best to proceed.
and how many have walked across our southern border with being challenged?
the estimate is between 200,000 to 300,000.........
are you prepared
are you armed
are you ready
Texican,
Good questions! I wonder what it'll take for our government to get serious about securing our southern borders, instead of dragging their feet so as not to offend the Mexicam government?
I suspect that even if some Juhadist blows the top off a shoping mall in Denver, LA or Phoenix, killing thousands of people, that our government won't do anything more than it's doing today. It'll just be business as usual.
We desperately need leaders in this country.
Right you are, Texican!
"The head of border controls for Brazil's Federal Police disagreed with the admiral's contention.
'If I were a terrorist I'd launch an attack from England. Latinos face ten times the controls that Europeans do at U.S borders,' Mauro Sposito said in an interview."
Considering that at a conservative estimate about TEN THOUSAND "undocumented immigrants" cross the border EVERY DAY, this guy Sposito is full of S@#T!
And, just what is an "undocumented immigrant," you ask? Well, an "undocumented immigrant" is an ILLEGAL, CRIMINAL, ENEMY-ALIEN INVADER who will "do the jobs Americans won't do," like RAPE, ROBBERY, DRUG DEALING, and MURDER of Americans.
Note to Texican: #1 - check!
#2 - check!
#3 - check!
and thanks, Texican, for the friendly reminder!
rational wrote, "I wonder what it'll take for our government to get serious about securing our southern borders, instead of dragging their feet so as not to offend the Mexican government."
Actually, rational, it appears to me that almost ALL of our elected officials are QUISLINGS who intend to essentially GIVE AWAY the United States of America to the greasy, ultra corrupt oligarchy that runs the third world cess pool that is Mexico. If this is indeed to be the fate of the United States, then it will be a tragic end to the greatest Republic that has ever been.
With Europe being overrun by Mussulmen, America being overrun by Mexicans, total nutters like Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Kim Jong Il of North Korea
making common cause with each other, the malevalent ChiCom waiting to finish us off, and Iran's own President Mahmoud I'mMadOnJihad just itching to burn down the whole world for his buddy "the 12th Imam,"
I foresee nothing but CHAOS ahead, and our political leaders are all mental midgets.
lol @ topic header
Yeah...along with up to 35 million other non-jihadist invaders already here.
One major reason they quietly started nailing MS-13 gangsters in California...they help transport jihadists in on a large scale, which isn't a secret at all-we've been saying that for a long time.
Better late than never.
This just in!
Rumor has it we have a fix on at least ONE of their hideouts!

(forget the fact it's no wonder the LAslimes is losing their shirt)
After all, based on the hypocritical behavior patterns of the 9/11 terrorists their last 24 hours, it's a good place to start, eh?
;-)
"... Islamic terrorist groups have networks in Latin America and the Caribbean and could use the region as a base to launch attacks on the United States,..."
.....or any number of South American Cities.....which , if hit with a 9/11 type of incident would cry out for US aid and military....hypocrites....
and
""We consider Latin America and the Caribbean as being highly likely bases for future terrorist threats to the U.S. and others."
.....would that be because the governments of these countries openly embrace the likes of Ahmadinejad, Castro, and Khomenei? would that be because these governments are behaving exactly as the governments of Iran and Cuba do....(you know, government control of the press, the schools, the media, the economy, and the people)....would that be because the leaders of most of these countries have openly riddled the US with harsh comments and harsh restrictions on trade and emigration...would that be because many of these countries have openly stated that they support efforts to bring down the US....would that be because most of these countries have contributed little or nothing at all towards fighting terrorism with either men, materials, logistical support, moral support, or money....would that be because most of these countries refuse to share intelligence data regarding terrorists with the US....
...it appears that most of these countries have already chosen which team they want to play on....
.....close the borders and ban Muslim Immigration.
"U.S. commander warns of Latin America terrorist threat"
...............................
I believe this threat is little known.
Before 9/11 one of the worst Islamic terrorist attacks outside the Middle East took place in Argentina. The Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) in Buenos Aires was bombed in 1994, killing 85 people and injuring over 300. Argentina has a large Arab population.
The attack came two years after the 1992 Israeli Embassy Attack in Buenos Aires that killed 22.
The day after the AMIA attack, a suicide bombing on a Panamanian commuter plane killed 12 Jews and 9 others. A communique from a group in Beirut icalled "Partisans of God" (Ansar Allah) claimed responsibility for the AMIA blast as well as for the Alas Chiricanas bombing in Panama.
It is now thought that Hizb'allah was likely responsible for the Buenos Aires bombing.
Then there is the "Tres Fronteras" area, at the borders of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. This has always been a lawless area with dangerous drug smugglers, but now increasingly has a presence of Al Qaeda and Hizb'allah. A lot of terriorsts are using drug revenues to fund the Jihad. (Of course, radical Islam is supposedly anti-drug--but they have used drug revenues before. In Afghanistan, the Taliban ruthlessly suppressed the poppy trade when they were in power, but now often uses opium money to fund their activities).
And then of course there is our dangerously porous southern border. Jihadists can hide amoung the huge flow of illegals coming over the border.
There are other issues, too. One of the London Tube bombers was Jamaican. I think, alarmingly, that we are likely to see growing Jihad activity in Latin America and the Carribean.
"They have provided little concrete evidence and Brazil, which has a large Arab population, and some other regional governments have played down the threat."
Arab population in Brazil has been until recently composed overwhelmingly of Christian Arabs. The phenomenon of having Muslim Arabs settling in Brazil is quite recent. The good thing is that there is no official immigration police that favors them (or any other group). The problem is that more and more are being accepted on humanitarian grounds.
The problem is indeed localized both at the triple border with Paraguay and Argentina, but there is a small community living in Chui, a border town with Uruguay.
The evidence is that they are collecting "alms".
The real danger in my opinion is when the Jihadists get strongly associated with drug trafficking. When this happens it will be the real "inner struggle" on the streets.
Moslems should be forced back to their countries of origin. Wherever they go outside of their homeland means trouble.
Texican,
So right. Discarded Middle Eastern passports have been found along our southern border. People who can't get through the front door will find an open window or back door. However, now we have to deal with Mexicans saying that Mexico is wherever they happen to be. The North American continent will soon have one external border, a la the EU. As long as you can get into Mexico or Canada, it will be open season on the US.
Getting here is half the battle. The 9/11 attacks couldn't have been launched from outside the US, except possibly from Toronto or Montreal. You can't blow up a shopping mall if you're on the other side of the Atlantic.
Globalization and Islam....perfect together.
Nicaragua is very close to the USA. Their militant anti-American president, Daniel Ortega, is on the record as saying that a nuclear Iran would be a good thing. He said so at the United Nations.
OT but sorta fits in here.
Hahahahaha!!

It's a three-letter word meaning donkey, used in the Bible!
I shudder, whenever I hear a commercial for Joe Kennedy's "Citizens Energy". It gives credit to "our good friends in Venezuela".
With our lax border security we can only hope that the Latin American nations continue to catch jihadists leaving for the US before they get here as the Peruvians did a couple of weeks ago. They are seemingly our last line of defense against jihadist infiltration the way things currently look.

-----------
For sure, that's a good excuse to invade countries that want NOTHING to do with the U.S.
Panama - which no longer wants the U.S. military there, and is refusing overtures and seductions by the U.S. (Arbusto's visit's) and his recent speech. As poor a country as Panama is - a recent poll has named the people there, as one of the happiest in the world. As poor as the country is, there must be SOMETHING there for the U.S. to want to bring it into it's fold. There must be something there, for so many U.S> Retirees to live there - and in the deep countryside ( El Interior) at that.
What could it be, what could it be?
-----------
This little matter of - all the U.S. worrying so much about the Latin American countries is a good reason ( good depending on whose view) of going to the "poor - unfortunate friends of the U.S. to "defend/bomb them." Could it be to steal whatever natural resources these poor unfortunate countries have. And remember, people are resources too - as was shown to us, in the late 1980s when all of a sudden, the corps. and cos. changed the name of the Personnel Dept." to "Human Resources" (at the time I coldn't fathom what it meant, but found it strange and suspicious - and had an intuitive resistance to the term.
----------------
The only thing is that the poor Latin American countries don't want anything to do with the U.S. - pushy that it is.
------------------
Could it be that the U.S. wants to bring into its fold Argentina, again? Didn't it show this when it separated from the International Bank? In spite of all the problems, the bankruptcies, the deaths from starvation, the dire poverty there? And after all, Argentina has always considered itself sovereign.
------------------
The U.S. military is after all, already in Colombia - hassling and harrassing the "Campesinos" in the countryside, "agent Oranging" legal crops of maiz, cafe, azucar, yucca etc., along with the marijuana and coca leaves.
Such is the help the U.S. gives.
------------------
The U.S. is already in Uruguay and Paraguay.
And now under the guise of terrorism in Venezuela and Bolivia, the U.S. shows every intention of invading there.
------------------------------------
I say, doesn't the U.S. have enough problems internall - w/o going to other countries.
It is absolutely contradictory to try to fight terrorism outside, whent he State Dept. is allowing so many islamics in - and then, giving them concessions over and above what it gives its own citizens, born and bred.
So, now the U.S. says "terrorism" in Trinidad, Tobago, Nicaragua, San Salvador, Honduras, Bolivia and Venezuela.
The U.S. is already in Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Wants in in Argentina, and Brazil and Panama.
Hey, U.S., can you handle them all?
OF COURSE YOU CAN! Let's go back to the era of "Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick." - very lucrative for the Americans, but a time when the Latinos - the nobodies, - bristled with helpless rage - unable to do anything about the cultural indignities visited upon them by the Gringo. Such as the racist Silver and Gold Standard set up in the Canal Zone - where salaries were paid separately to the American Whites and the Jamaican Blacks (brought in to build the Canal) and the local Panamanians. The AMerican Racial obssesion of the American Southerners also set up separate facilities, such as water fountains for Whites and Blacks.
And in fact, today, the Americans - in general -still look down on Latinos - even in their own countries. And I will say the rest of the world.
Oh, NO?!
What then is the reason that the term "Third World " originated in the U.S.? It is like saying 3rd rate - what then does this term denote by contempt?
Perhaps the events going on there in Bolivia and Venezuela, etc. are the rightful resentment of the People - the poor People - the majority which are Indians and other people of color (black, olive, red [chapiaditos] skinned), etc .
And although, at the beginning of the presidency of Chavez, I stood apart - holding opinions - to wait, watch and see how the drama unfolded - I can say, NOW, yes, the man has tendencies of "socialism" - and his association with Castro is no small matter (el que se acuesta con babies, amanece sucio). Chavez has done with the Venezuelans, EXACTLY what Castro did with the Cubans: Poor Innocents - only wanting equality and justice: HE FOOLED THEM! As an outsider, I saw this taking place in the 60s, it's a classical case of "Fool Me Once..."
But today, Chavez - because of his genetics - fooled the common, uneducated people - they have an affinity with him because of this.
They don't know any better.
Chavez also has for a bedfellow, NOW - the Hairy Monkey of Iran, Ahmadinejad. He fooled his people but good!
Now the fishnet has brought in Bolivia.
