"Anemic supplicants pleading with a collection of keystone cops for anything that can be dubbed success"

Keystone Kops, yes, and also murderous thugs. "Owls Gather at Annapolis," by Youssef Ibrahim in the New York Sun (thanks to Ruth King):

Mr. Bush the son, and his secretary of state Ms. Rice are going into this one as anemic supplicants pleading with a collection of keystone cops for anything that can be dubbed success. A far more attainable success may have been wrung from an Iraq conference seeking to build on what finally seems to be some progress there. Instead, Ms. Rice picked a sure loser — ending the 50-year conflict of Arabs and Jews in one afternoon photo opportunity.

Equally hard to believe is the coyness of it all. The ever-precious Saudis first said no, then maybe, and then okay. The Egyptians, who were not needed in the first place, said please. The Syrians are doing us the favor of coming.

Yet it remains unclear how the same Saudis, who last week were busy condemning a rape victim to 200 lashes, can contribute to anything called a "civilized" Middle East. Nor how President Assad's killing machine, which for two years has been picking off pro-Western politicians in neighboring Lebanon, will push peace negotiations.

At Annapolis, too, goes a uniquely hapless prime minister of Israel, Ehud Olmert, who almost singlehandedly in the summer of 2006 lost a war to Hezbollah. This is negotiating from a position of strength?

Clearly what will happen at Annapolis is that Mr. Bush, the man who promised modernity and democracy for the Middle East, will inaugurate it with a speech that will be quickly forgotten, then leave the grounds for the rest of the world to grumble over the next year about yet another American Middle East failure.

This will be interesting. Does anyone really believe that Oslo and Wye River were successes? Maybe in a war of attrition. It will be a lesson in our own demise.

The teddy bear story is posted over on Dhimmiwatch.

And of course we all no what the outcome will be, however Condoleeza, and President Bush will get coo dos for their noble effort.

It is very hard to plant a rose garden in the middle of a weed patch.

Bush Administration’s middle east rhetoric and reality is one lethal joke

Officials from three U.S. agencies are now reviewing their records over the past three years to see if permission should have been granted for a major American computer company to ship "sensitive" technology to Syria, a state sponsor of terrorism.

FOX News originally reported that after years of harsh talk and escalating rounds of sanctions against Syria for supporting terror and seeking weapons of mass destruction, the United States is quietly supporting a United Nations program to supply the regime with sophisticated surveillance equipment and computers to monitor its borders.

What a surprise. Youssef Ibrahim wants us to believe that Israel lost the war to Hizb'Allah. In fact, the IDF was able to decimate Hizb'Allah whenever given the chance. The only way Hizb'Allah survived was to hide among civilians, and then have the UN and the usual cast of unsavory characters complain of "war crimes" when the IDF fired back.

Is anyone drawing a parallel to what the jihadi strategy will be in Iraq? As soon as we pull out, however many years from now, and after any amount of forced improvement to their society, and after any amount of our money that we pour in there, they will claim that they "defeated" us. They'll claim it repeatedly until the public believes it. Which is why we should never again put ourselves in the position of putting our "success" or "failure" in the hands of Islamic societies. We should define our "success" purely in terms of what is best for us, and in terms of what we can accomplish ourselves. Our goal should be defined as "destroy jihadist weaponry, and kill as many jihadists as possible", which we can and did accomplish. Our goal should not be defined as "build a tolerant democratic society, based on (Judeo-Christian) principles of peace and forgiveness", because we cannot accomplish that on our own, and we have not and will not.

Israel in Lebanon, and the U.S. in Iraq, should not allow the silent vast majority of jihad supporters to act as "human shields" to protect the jihadists.

This conference has got "artifice" written all over itby the hosts...and it's certainly not what the MSM or the masses appear to think either...
classic Sun Tzu...and few, if any, realize it...lol
Excellent.

...and why is hamas so freaked-out over these seemingly fallacious talks? (rhetorical)

(I smell a turf war building)

I smell a photo opp.

How's about borrowing a play from the other side's book?

Declare a big truce deal and then attack Hizballah, Hamas, Fatah and the Syrians before their "diplomats" even get home.

Put that in the hookah and smoke it.

lol...well, I know that's a nice dream...but...
DAMN, wouldn't it be SWEET!
LOL

Not only will this dog not hunt, it will barely even get up.

Just another politician retirement home petrodollar fund raiser.

The important people will probably attend not more than a half hour at a stretch.

If anything, a Munich affair.

Why be happy the scum Syrians and the scum Saudis are attending ?

Big fat zeroes.

Is this the lead up to a screeching war ?

Hi All,

There was a report the other day that Condi Rice invited representatives of 40 countries to this meeting. Sounds like a little gang up. Whatever happened to the Quartet that was supposed to be the grouping that would settle this problem once and for all? Why the change from 4 to 40?

Magooey

Well, as suspected...things have shifted gears...

...which is the heart of what was really planned all along. It puts them on the spot (and the arabs don't like it one bit as they're screwed either way they go)
Like I said...an artfice.
Classic Sun Tzu.

Yet again US government cowards are ganging-up on Israel for the same disgraceful purpose: to push, push, push Israel into giving up more land to the Global Jihad. All this to please the Muslim world.
