Near Beslan. This could be the work of a non-jihad-related "criminal gang," but authorities are investigating it as a terrorist attack. From the BBC (thanks to all who sent this in):
An explosion aboard a bus in Russia's North Ossetia region has killed at least five people, including a nine-year-old girl, and hurt 12.The bus was travelling from the city of Pyatigorsk and had stopped on the border with the Kabardino-Balkaria region when the explosion took place.
"It was an attack," a police official told AFP news agency.
Unrest linked to militants and criminal gangs is common in Russia's Caucacus republics bordering restive Chechnya.
The blast was caused by a device containing over 300g of explosives and loaded with nails and scraps of metal, police sources told the Reuters news agency.
As many as 19 people were on the bus, including two drivers, when the explosion took place.
Russian prosecutors have begun investigating the blast as a terrorist attack, according to the Interfax news agency.
A school in the town of Beslan in North Ossetia was the scene of a siege by militants in 2004, that left more than 300 people dead, most of them children.
"Criminal gang" keeps them from being accused of racism. There is a great motive for that, racism is evil. But we cannot be blind to the impace of culture. Cultural diversity is real.
If this is a criminal gang, we must denounce the culture of criminality that has allowed it to flourish. We condemn the culture of crime.
If this is an islamic gang, we must denounce the culture of terror that has allowed it to flourish. We condemn the culture of terror.
To point out that Islam often leads to terror is not racist, it is culturist. We cannot accept criminality and terror. We can no longer be multiculturalists. The age of innocence is past. We must be culturist.

I would love to hear the Russians finally getting serious about their Muslims
""It was an attack," a police official told AFP news agency."
...No way! Really?!
*sigh* this kind of stuff is making us Russians look bad. Thank L. Ron Hubbard I don't live there anymore.
Must of been that "small minority of misunderstanders of Islam" that Glenn Beck was talking about.
"criminal gang", not much profit in blowing up a bus.
We need to give the Russians free rein to crush these assholes and stop acting holier than thou.
OT, but People, read this:

A visiting professor from Tel Aviv resigned at George Washington U because students accused her of being "anti-Arab." !!! Like, no one can be "anti-Arab!" My God, GWU is so pathetic it's unbelievable, and the U President? Steven Knapp? A Dhimmi of the First Order.
While Putin rattles his sword at the US he cozies up to Iran and seems to have ignored the Destroyers in his midst. Maybe he should crack down on this bunch rather than revisit the Cold War before more of this thing becomes common.
And if Putin does crack down I hope the US is at least smart enough to pat him on the back instead of criticize him.
Think you will FIND Russia is cracking down. Much
maligned [by the West & very intelligent] Putin has instigated the arming and training of young ethnic Russians for last two years. He has also built up the strength of Orthodox Christianity to which he belongs himself. The spirit of Nationalism runs high in Russian, getting the Slavs in the mood to defend the Motherland[and probably join with other Slavs]. Putin knows he can't trust America who has done everything possible to discredit, demonize and undermine him
although the U.S is perfectly comfortable with the
likes of Eygpt,Pakistan etc[and other nasty regimes]. As for hipocrisy about Russia 'supporting Iran'that's a laugh considering
America's favourite buddy-The Saudis. Case of pot
calling the kettle black, wouldn't you say?
Believe the Mad Mullahs allow Iranian women to drive at least...
America has only itself to blame [its crazy foreign policies] for its woes and Putin is no drunken Western puppet like Yeltsin.
islamists are criminal gangs as far as I am concerned, because they behead people, blow up buses filled with innocent people, and fly airliners into buildings -- just to name a few reasons.
So it looks like Russian appeasement of their muslim problem isn't working too well; and Putin wants to support the islamic states because he thinks he can absorb these losses every now an again it seems.
Word on the street is that it was Zionist Buddhist Freemasons.
"Россия имеет проблему таракана!"
...there are ways to overcome that, surely
Julia - a lovely Jewish girl-Gorin has a great article about the mis reading of Putin.

Putin's brought Russia back from the brink. He's had a lousy hand to play with but has brought spectacular results. The war in Chechnya is over bar the shouting, the economy is no longer staring at the abyss, and now he's going to humiliate the West for it's naughtiness over Kosovo.
Those Good Ole Boys from the Chronicles continue to mine gold with regards to articles about Russia. Here's a goodie.

Each time one of these vicious jihad raids takes place against a sovereign non-Muslim state - e.g. the Russian Federation, or the Philippines, Thailand, India, Israel - we need to take it upon ourselves, at least some of us here, to send a short, dignified note of condolence and encouragement, just a few lines on a tasteful postcard, even, to the appropriate Embassy, or even to the Head of State. Such letters could be clear, polite but un-PC in mentioning the source of the attacks - the ideology of the Jihad. Similarly, whenever a jihad plot is successfully thwarted and the plotters brought to justice, congratulations might be in order. Again, such congratulations would involve reference to the real nature and source of the threat that has been averted.
Perhaps Hugh could, for example, give us a sample of the kind of brief note that some here might like to send to the Russian embassy, or to President Putin himself, or even the Mayor and people of Pyatigorsk, after this particular jihad raid.
Positive reinforcement, and the naming of the enemy, over and over and over, from concerned fellow Infidels all over the world, ordinary citizens, might help to turn the tide.
How might Putin feel if he received a mountain of letters from ordinary citizens of America, India, elsewhere, all saying - "we know you are under attack from the Jihad. We grieve for the violence the Muslim jihad raiders have just inflicted upon your citizens on such a date and at such a place, for the murder of innocent people, and the destruction of infrastructure and resources. We understand the measures you must take for self-defence. Our prayers are with your brave soldiers and police men who must strive to defeat the Jihad lest it destroy Russia."? Imagine the effect of similar words, to the King of Thailand, or the people of the Philippines; or to the Knesset. Not once, but every time the Muslims attack.
It would be one more way of getting across the 'big picture' - one way of making sure that all the different Infidel countries on the frontlines of the Third Jihad realize that they are connected, that they're all dealing with the same thing, facing the same threat.
In the Global Jihad, for every nation there is a tip-in point at which Moslem activism and fearful Dhimmitude attain critical mass at national Sharia is implemented.
Large numbers of "Moderate Moslems" go from inactive to active. Murders of Infidel innocents by Jihad terror warriors increase drastically. Moslem demands for more power explodes at the victim country's provincial and national capitals. Financial and territorial concessions begin flowing. Infidel families flee to neighboring nations. Dhimmi officials move to parcel the nation. Sharia is recognized by the same officials.
The usual.

If I were to draw up a Top 5 power list of countrys going through the multiphased Ok-to-Wobbly-to-Beseiged-to-bifurcated-to-Sharia process, and rank proximity to Sharia tip-in, here'd it be:
1. Kosovo Province (Serbia)
2. Thailand
3. Phillipines
4. Nigeria
5. the Ossetias
Ossetia's biggest problem, obviously, is its proximity to the Islamic Republic of Chechnya. Another problem is al Qaeda's focus on the region, seeking to obain large numbers of caucasian Moslems to advance Jihad war in the West from inside Russia's hegemonic zone.
Putin, a dumbass when it comes to long-term strategy, views Islam as the way to counterbalance America's superpower status.
