BAGHDAD, 13 November 2007 (IRIN) - Male gynaecologists are being targeted by Islamic extremists in Iraq as they are accused of invading the privacy of women. Women’s NGOs have raised concerns as there are few women gynaecologists in the country and their male counterparts are scared to continue working.“Because of the extremists’ religious views, doctors are scared to continue with their work and the number of women gynaecologists is very low and cannot meet the demand,” said Mayada Zuhair, spokeswoman for the Women’ Rights Association (WRA).
“Extremists say that [male] doctors are not allowed to see the private parts of women and two male doctors were reportedly killed last week after leaving their clinics. A message was left near their bodies saying that was the end for any doctor who insists in invading the privacy of Muslim women,” Mayada added.
An Iraqi Medical Association (IMA) spokesman, Walid Rafi, told IRIN it knew of at least 22 male gynaecologists who had been sent threatening letters.

“In one case the extremists tried to carry out their threat. They kidnapped the son of a doctor and only released him after the doctor had closed his clinic in Karada district, in Baghdad,” Rafi said. “We are worried about women’s health in this country. Few of them have access to good medical care and now with the fear of male gynaecologists, few remain in the job and this could have a serious impact in the coming months.”

I feel bad for the women who need medical help. I would feel even worse if US doctors are threatened or killed for providing similar services or hospitals are bombed for not bowing to Muslim demands. From yesterdays' posting, it seems that Muslim men are already successful in imposing their views on hospitals and doctors in Europe.
Let me get this right:
1. Only female doctors can treat Muslimas.
2. Women are not allowed to work (See what the Taliban did to the female reportrs)
How, then, will the female muslim women get treatment if there's no one to treat them?
Islam has such a low view of women that it doesn't considers them worthy of decent medical care. But then again, wasn't it Muhammad, the pedophile prophet, who said that women have mental deficiences, and that hell is filled with them?

My son is in his third year of Medical School and he tells me the subject is addressed in lecture.
In a nut shell the woman must decide well before a procedure. Is possible her wishes will be honored and if not then any available physician will be in attendance. If the woman objects then she can go elsewhere. If the husband objects he will be ejected by force if necessary.
Seems a reasonable stance and one I may wish to use. I think I would rather have a male physician give me a vasectomy than a woman who has no appreciation of how I feel about my family jewels.

At this point I must keep reminding myself that the majority of Islamic women simply do not know there is a better way of life outside Islam and arabic culture, Sharia. I try to imagine myself in the shoes of those poor women and of course an American woman can not. It takes the exceptional woman that can decide without outside assistance that this kind of cruelty and discrimination is simply wrong. Not only must they deny their culture, but their religious beliefs. Though somewhere in the human spirit there must be the thought: What kind of God is it that ordains unimportance onto women and hateful, hideous punishments for their mistakes. Not one worth worshiping. Maybe one day enough of them will see through the misogyny of those cultures to change their condition. But they are truly at a disadvantage and that won't be soon.
