PESHAWAR - Fighting between rival Sunni and Shia Muslims in northwestern Pakistan’s troubled tribal belt has claimed 70 lives, security officials and state media reported Sunday.
State television said another 150 people were injured as heavily armed tribesmen clashed in the Kurram district bordering Afghanistan.
Security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said at least 61 civilians had died in fighting in the district’s main town Parachinar, where sectarian clashes in April left 55 dead.
The military said nine soldiers from the army and paramilitary forces had also died, with 15 wounded, after being caught in the crossfire.
Witnesses reported continued fighting overnight despite a curfew in place since Friday.
Fighters from the Shia-dominated Turi tribe and the mainly Sunni Muslim Mengal clan were perched on rooftops and hills overlooking Parachinar, armed with rockets and a mix of heavy and light weapons, witnesses said.
“Both are well entrenched and they are firing on each other,” one resident said.
“I can’t give you the exact casualty figure as fighting is still going on. Last night we had 45 dead and up to 90 wounded,” local administration chief Fakhre Alam told AFP.

The late Joey Bishop (the last of the "rat pack" was almost 90 when he passed recently) had a great routine that was hilarious. In the routine, he's in bed with some guy's wife, the husband comes come and sees them there and Joey proceeds to deny the obvious facts and sells the husband that he's not seeing what he sees. It's very funny. That's what these liar-clowns (Fibrahim Hooper, U-Mar-Truth eeL "I call Spencer a racist and hurl racial slurs (watch the tape) at an African American officer"), Ed-209 Lakovic ("find my Nazi ancestors please so I can stop lying"), CAIR-liars, etc.) do.
"Islamaphopia" is the Joey Bishop routine re Muslim violence. Imagine trying to preach "Islam is peace" in one of the Pakistani Mad-hat-dressers. I don't think so.
What is amazing is how Pakistani descendants of Hindu culture, conquered and oppressed by Arab and non-Arab Muslim flunkies (Persians, for example), Pakistaned up their indigenous culture and now bow to the gas station. The Arab Muslims and their flunky non-Muslim invaders really comitted mass murder in India and nearly destroyed the Hindu culture there. I think a lot of the psychotic behavior in Pakistan is rooted back to that period when the Indian people were slaughtered by the Muslims and forced to bow to the gas station.
All of history is the record-pattern of one group doing this to another. But Islam beats all as a rationalization system for destroying indigenous cultures and getting them to bow to the gas station. Islam is the engine of Arab Imperialism.

I have deleted comments that connect Islamic hostility with the bloodline of Ishmael. First, Muhammad's own claim to the line of Ishmael is a matter of Islamic tradition. Particularly for a non-Muslim, that is well worth taking with a grain of salt.
For that matter, I find the tarring of an entire group with the same brush based on speculations about ancestry both distasteful and damaging to our work. (Uncomfortable echoes of the "Curse of Ham," for starters.)
If you want to convince others of the roots of hostility and violence in Islam, you will find your evidence in Islamic texts and teachings, and the actions that have resulted over the centuries.
A lot of the psychotic behavior of Muslims in India (part of which is now Pakistan) is because their natural collective Hindu unconscious is in conflict with this foreign culture-religion. The people of India would have been much better off if Islam had not been imposed by the Arab and the non-Arab Muslim flunky invaders of India. It would be one country today. Instead, they do the Irish sectarian thing there with nukes. Islam has brought nothing but madness to India. It's horrible.

There is very good reason to fear Islam. I think the invasion of India by Muslim Arabs and their non-Arab-Muslim-flunkies (Persians, for example), the mass murder and mayhem comitted by the invaders, and then the imposition of a false Arab-culture on the Indian people, has done great damage to the indigenous Hindu culture. Islam's role in India (which includes Pakistan and Bangladesh) is one of the great crimes of history. We are seeing the past in the present there. The people of Hindu India had their collective unconscious severely damaged by Islam.
And I thought that Islam was peaceful

Middle age, pal. But I've seen it a few times (maybe 2x) in replays and I've seen references to the skit by people who know about it. I think Joey had his own show when he did the skit. It is memorable. "Islamophobia" is the Joey Bishop skit done by Fibrahim Hooper, etc.

Seventy dead this time, fifty-five in April, that's 125 potential killers of filthy infidels who will miss next weeks roll call. Some of the wounded will be permanently disabled and will also miss all the fun.
The Southern Baptist Convention had a serious disagreement a few years ago, and some members actually left the organization. As I recall not so much as a single punch was thrown. If it were Muslims instead of Baptists, there would have been twenty deaths at least.
If Islamic infighting in Pakistan is any indicator, then it would seem that Pakistanis are in need of a Council of Islamic Relations far, far more than the Americans need one (assuming that the grounds presented for such an organization in the US are being honestly and accurately presented to the public by the Islamic community in North America--oh, ha ha ha). Americans have numerous ethnicities to infight with, and yes, since there are Muslims in the USA Muslims get their share of unwanted and (perhaps or perhaps not) undeserved attacks. But in the USA, Muslims are attacked a lot LESS than most other ethnicities are.
Pakistan and other nations in the ummah have no such excuse as the USA does: Islamic nations are basically homogeneous with the only major differences being the degree of commitment to Islamic doctrine and varying interpretations of the Kuran's verses. In Pakistan, as almost everywhere in the Islamosphere there is almost no one else besides Muslims to pick fights with except other Muslims (and are Pakistani Muslims ever guilty of doing that).
Hopefully, we can send the USA's "CAIR" organization over to Pakistan soon to begin Islamic sensitivities indoctrination. Maybe we can unload the entire CAIR staff into Pakistan--and (Yahweh willing) then leave them there for good.
This is a phenom of islam that should be utilized by the infidels. Foment the secterian violence and they will leave the rest of us alone until the issue is resolved. Then we can clean up whichever side is left standing.
Encourage sunni/shia conflict at every chance.
We even saw this conflict in Michigan when Saddam was hanged. Sunnis and shiites in the Heartland attacking each other over something taking place in the middle east. Pure joy for the infidels.
