I don't know why I'm even surprised by this, as most Muslim religious "leaders" calmly assert that it is the right of a Muslim man to marry up to four wives. Apparently, American laws against polygamy don't bother some religious leaders in the least little bit.
Read it all. Miss Kelly has some pointed questions for the Administration of the Islamic Center of New England.
What will be the basis for acting against this practice among Muslims, if we accept all sorts of norms that are outside of traditional Western rules? "Homosexuality is another issue," you say? Let that go for now. The acceptance of poly-amourous relationships among just plain folks and among just plain fundamentalist Mormons means that we have little basis in law or custom for cracking the whip on Islamic practice.
The issue could be the children -- that children raised in polygamous environments are not protected. But, again, the fundamentalist Mormons (who are, by the way, separate from the Church of the Latter Day Saints) have many children, and I believe the kids thrive.
The increased immigration of Muslims makes even more crucial the resurgence of Christianity in America; else, what is the basis for our complaint about Islamic polygamy and a future of massive numbers?

I've known others, not even Muslimah. But while I'm not so offended by polygamy, I'm far more disgusted with all the Muslimah who blather among themselves that their husbands will have only one wife, and then circle the wagons to protect the offending male and his concubines from the law. A pox on all their houses.
Polygamy is adultery, full stop.

So the older lecherous 'leaders' of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints can have lots of young wives they throw teenage boys out on the streets at the slightest sign of rebellion. It is HORRIFIC. And not to mention the fourteen year old girls forced to marry old men.
poetcomic, you may be right about child abuse among the fundamentalist mormons. in many places, there's little action taken against that group. The muslims are likely to find the same acceptance, absent a return of faith.
I know of an American female convert to Islam who is married to an Islamic Arab with wives in other countries. Polygamy in this form is probably very common.

The solution is not to "reform" her husband or the Islamic Center, but to renounce Islam. Her husband and his brother live as specified by the Qur'an, Hadith, and the example set by the founder of their false religion.
They are breaking the law. Don't they say that they must abide by the law of the country they live in? And who is supporting those wives? Benefits fraud.

Of course....... WE ARE.
Most people wouldn't know this, although I think Hugh would(cuz I have a sneaking suspicion he lives or lived in Ma), but Sharon Ma is one of the most Jewish towns in Massachusetts. Even their public schools take all the Jewish holidays off.
I find it interesting that the Muslims have an Islamic Center in Sharon, a very small town that that doesn't have a significant enough Muslim population to demand an Islamic Center for anything other than to rub it into faces of the local jews.
I'm sure the ladie's references to Rhode Island are in reference to the mosque in Smithfield Rhode Island. A large monstrosity built in the terrible post modern Arab style with minaret et al, overlooking the Blackstone River.
The same river that Roger Williams once lived upon. Roger Williams must be rolling in his grave that these purveyors of Islam have set up site in this land that he established for the purpose of worshiping the Christian God that he so reverred. Set up in the most Catholic state in the country. Whose capital is named Providence in reference to God.
