Teddy Bear Teacher Sentenced to 15 Days in Jail, Deportation

I think it is likely that they have been shamed away from lashing her by all the international attention.

From AP (thanks to Davida):

KHARTOUM, Sudan — British teacher Gillian Gibbons has been convicted of inciting religious hatred for letting her pupils name a teddy bear Muhammad and sentenced to 15 days in prison and deportation from Sudan, one of her defense lawyers said Thursday.

"The judge found Gillian Gibbons guilty and sentenced her to 15 days jail and deportation," said Ali Mohammed Hajab, a member of her defense team.

The director of the school employing Gibbons, however, noted that since she had already spent five days in prison, she would serve only 10 days.

"It's a very fair verdict, she could have had six months and lashes and a fine, and she only got 15 days and deportation," said Robert Boulos of the Unity High School, adding they would not appeal the decision.

This quote from Fox News:

His comments are expected but misguided. On the one hand the school is still operating, i.e staff still in country, and he doesn't want to inflame the fanatics/government. On the other he is doing a great injustice to his teacher. She deserves to be vindicated on record. Are we to just accept at how benevolent the Sudanese government is by NOT whipping her. Oh be still my beating heart, how understanding the ruling is.
Fair my big fat hairy white ass. To paraphrase John Lennon:
Imagine cutting off all relations, diplomatic and economic, to islamic nations.
Imagine no longer having access to Western technologies.
Imagine where those nations would be.
Now imagine the peace without islam.
Fantasy, yes. Unrealistic, yes. But just imagine.

The High School has not stood up for their teacher. It would be pointless to appeal but it's not a "very fair verdict". How long will the school be closed?

I am sure the teacher is looking forward to her "deportation" to home in England. Then she can write about her treatment in a Sudanese prison.

Bad news: 15 days in a Sudanese jail.
Good News: Deportation.

"Earlier, Foreign Secretary David Miliband had met the Sudanese ambassador to discuss the case, stressing it was an "innocent misunderstanding"."

then mr millband picked up his purse, put it in his hand bag along with his make up and lip stick and did a little huff as he left the room to rapturous laughter from the sudanese ministers, who slapped each other on the backs. one of them was later heard saying, "british empire! ha i wipe my arse with their flag".

..it is time for the facility to send all its infidel teachers home...the Muslims do not really want them there anyway......it is just a matter of time before another similiar thumped up incident occurs.....maybe next time they will drag the teacher out into the courtyard and execute on the spot....(Muslims do this often and in many places)....

...it is sad that our politicians have such a hard time is sending Muslims back home....

...Ban Muslim Immigration...

Only 15 days in a decrepit Sudanese jail?

She got off way too easy, she deserved 40 lashes for the insult of the false prophet Muhammad.

Imagine what she has done to those kids, naming a teddy bear Muhammad, they will have to live with the fact that they have insulted muhammad for the rest of their lives, what a burden for a child to bare, just shameful.

Good for her, being deported from a cesspool (of course the cesspoolians think this is a harsh deal). Once she gets home I hope she is forever stripped of foolish notions of going back to the ummah for any reason.

If the name don't fit you must not acquit.....or something like that.

i want the muslim council of "great" britain to issue a fatwa against mohammed atta, for bringing the name of their "prophet" into disrepute.

When, sooner or later, the government's thugs come for Robert Boulos, I hope he has his apologies and multiculturalist compliments ready. No doubt his own eventual trial for some imaginary insult to Islam will therefore bring "a very fair verdict."

"Orsetto Maometto" is what in the Italian press has been calling what has become the most famous teddy bear in history.

Who in the West wants to manufacture a cute little clone of the original, and then, instead of giving him a name, merely suggesting that buyers of the bear should be aware that it is a close or even exact replica of that named "Muhammad" by a classroom full of seven-year-old Muslim children, and in Italian that is "Orsetto Maometto," a name which rhymingly suggests itself for use by others.

That's the way to do it.

Hugh:
Translation of "Orsetto Maometto" if you would please. Thanks.
I'm guessing Maometto is Mohammed, or some derivative. But can't quite get the gist of the term.

SHE BETTER DO SOME READING BEFORE FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF YVONNE RIDLEY

Did her attorney just say "fair"? I would like to sentence him to two weeks with a bar of soap and a filthy toothbrush -- three times a day -- and rinsing is forbidden.

I believe she is extremely lucky to not have been...what is the usual faire?...raped, disemboweled, eyes gouged out, then beheaded.

Lets hope she shares her story with as many people possible, back home in England.

More bad news: Even back home, she may have to think about going into hiding. Rushdie might be able to show her a few good places to lay low.

Let me venture a guess, Kevin--Maometto is a diminuative of Mohammed, Orsetto means Little Bear--Little Mohammed Bear?

Have we forgotten that near-daily rape is frequently the fate of any female prisoner in an Islamic prison?

"I think it is likely that they have been shamed away from lashing her by all the international attention."

Shamed? You can bet your a-double crooked letter they weren't reacting to any threats.

most popular phrase of this week, "innocent misunderstanding".

"Last night, her son John said
"I don't want the verdict to lead to any anti feeling towards Muslims. Everyone has been very nice, but one of my fears, and I imagine my mother's also, will be that this results in any sort of resentment towards Muslim people.""

again, the tables are turned on non muslims to accept sharia law.

no thank you. the facts speak for themselves.

Greetings:

If I had responded as "her son, John," did, I am sure my father would have arisen from his grave to explain the situation to me and adjust several of my body parts.

Sudan loses a teacher.

And gains more ignorance.

A win-win in the inverted world of Islam.

How much time did the teddy bear get?

Good thing it was Poo Bear and not Piglet!

"Then, after reducing these cities completely to rubble announce a complete blockade of Sudan preventing any food, medicine, or supplies from reaching the population. Enforce this blockade until Sudan's Muslim population has been reduced 90% from famine and disease. After that, inform them that the blockade will be lifted when they abandon Islam altogether."

is provoslavni ann coulter?

i thought that converting other nations to a different religion is what our enemies do.

religious fascism of any faith should be met with guns and revolution be it christianity or islam or mormonism. i hate reading this crap.

leon,

It IS embarrassing to read loose exterminationist talk here--I feel that it may reflect badly on this site, its purposes, and on other posters. It is also rather out-of-place for any but Britons to appeal to British honour.

In fairness, I'd like to dismiss it as mere hyperbole, or venting rage in the face of genuine provocation. Even so, I recall Hugh Fitz counselling against rash, thoughtless comments.

leon pf,

You know that foes of JW/DW take this sort of blustery talk at face value.

Leon,

Almost any reader who is awake can tell that my above post is tongue-in-cheek hyperbole.

BTW, Even in the hyperbole I didn't advocate forcibly converting them to Christianity or any other religion... only that they would have to abandon Islam as a condition for the blockade to be lifted. I didn't say WHAT they should abandon it for.

On a serious note, however, I do believe that every country should impose a trade blockade on Sudan and every other terrorist state.

John C

I was trying to sound just like our Muslim enemies who historically have a habit of doing to non-Muslims exactly what I tongue-in-cheek wrote the Brits could do. Just read about the Muslim genocide of Hindus in India or of puposeful starvation of numerous Christian cities to which the Muslim laid siege.

That is the reality of extremism. My attempt to sarcastically co-opt that extremism was simply a failed attempt at shock-humor.

My apologies if you were offended.

Dear Provoslani,

Not offended [giving offense is stock-in-trade of truculent Muslims], just embarrassed for your sake.

Your humor is sooo subtle that I STILL have trouble "getting it." Let's see, now that you've explained it--you were mocking Muslim projection of their own ruthless malice by apeing the malice they project onto us? Oooou...Now, THAT'S subtle!

Only, now I suppose I DO get it, after all. (I think.)

Some of us, it seems, just have a quirky sense of humour[Brit usage]. LOL!

"I think it is likely that they have been shamed away from lashing her by all the international attention."

Really, Robert, I think you give them too much credit. They will NEVER feel shame at the thought of beating a woman, to death if it so happens, if she should innocently slight them.

They are ashamed of nothing. To suggest that they are even capable of feeling shame is to credit them with a degree of human conscience they do not possess.

No, they are angry for getting bad PR and being forced to not to turn her back into bubbling ground meat, or risk a reduction in foreign aid, but shame? Not on your life.

Provoslavni,

the problem with such jokes is that the opposition use any comments that reflect badly on this site and our efforts.

I have seen some muslims denouncing this.

So I checked CAIRs website and guess what?

Not a peep from CAIR ... imagine that!

How very "fair" of the noble Sudanese!

john c

i just find it rather odd that one can mention an extermination of an entire people because of a teddy bear and a teacher yet to make a simple joke about a british beer ( a long thread ago) and have my post removed.

there seems to be no logic in the random post deletions.

hope that CAIR doesn't use the above post to highlight the "intolerance" of jihadwatch.

non muslim do live in the sudan! teh teacher was at a christian school. so we kill all the christians as well in this imaginary blockade?

leon pf,

Moderators here make mistakes, and they ought to, and probably do, know it. It's an overreaction, as when Bosch joked about the UK[?] going from "From Camelot to camel lot." Still, they mean well--it's just that they've encountered CAIR's irksome shenanigans.

Unintended redundancy. Irksome. Mea culpa.

Leon---

No, we don't allow that sort of thing. We delete it as soon as one of us sees it, which I just did. We also encourage readers to bring those comments to our attention so that we can remove them faster.

Actually, we are doing it all wrong. I am gonna go out and buy one of those gay ken dolls, dress him up in pink and name him "Mohammed bin Anal".

Buyers?

Man, I could make MONEY off this :)

No, but thanks for the comparison. I'm honored!

Provoslavni,

You're very welcome.

BTW--now when are they going to let you out of rehab?

LOL!

Deus vult, Dude!

[`a la A.C., that is.]

BTW--now when are they going to let you out of rehab?

Sorry, never needed it. Don't drink, don't use drugs, been happily married for nearly 20 years, have two Master's degrees from respected universities, have travelled widely, speak several languages, have citizenship in three countries, and am gainfully employed.

However, I'm not as pretty or as articulate as Ann Coulter and certainly don't agree with her support of George W.'s foriegn policy.

So.... considering all this, maybe I do need rehab.

:)
