Algiers, 31 Dec. (AKI) - Lawmakers from the Algerian Islamic political party of al-Nahda have asked the government to intervene to slow down "the activities of Christian missionaries in the country".Algerian MP Muhammad Hudeibi was quoted as saying this in the local el-Khabar newspaper.
"We want the government to cut down this type of activity because the expansion of evangelisation in Algeria has become an important problem and is not marginal as some think it is," said Hudeibi.
For some years, the local media in Algeria have reported on the activities of a number of missionaries, particularly those from evangelical and Protestant churches, who have succeeded in converting entire Algerian families to Christianity, particularly those who come from the eastern area of Kabilia.
"We condemn the government's silence with regard to this phenomenon," said the Algerian MP.
"We are collecting the signatures of other lawmakers in order to begin a discussion in parliament on this problem," he said.

Islam does not want freedom of thought or speech unless it is authorized by Allah. Islam is not multicultural, and the West should realize the threat of an Islamic majority.

It seems to me that with this new UN resolution, any action by said government would amount to religious discrimination. Or do christians count?
And just what have these Christians been doing? Killing Moslem school-girls? Beheading imams and mullahs? Bombing kebab carry-outs? Raping burkha-clad women? No, no, no, and no. Well, what then? Ah, they've been "converting entire Algerian families to Christianity"! Why, those devious sneaks! If the whole family converts, there's no one left to kill the others for apostasy.

The eastern Kabyle is the Berber heartland. Berbers have an ethnic identity that works against, rather than reinforces, the Islamic identity. And the long history of mistreatment of Berbers by Arabs, the linguistic and cultural imperialism that the Berbers have had to endure, makes some of them keenly aware that Islam is a vehicle for Arab supremacism. And that makes them more open than Arabs to Christian missionaries.

This should more correctly read: "...who have succeeded in reconverting entire Algerian families back to Christianity, from which they were forcibly converted to Islam by the invading Arab hordes ..."

I was about to sugest that the non-Arab Algerians are more prone to abandon the arabic religion than the Arab Algerians. Turns out that you pinned that down first.
God sure has a plan for those Berbers who have been under foreign Arabian dominion for too long. Time for north africa to have a revival a la South Korea, and end with the islamic occupation.

In other words - the Berbers, whose language and culture has been ruthlessly suppressed by Arabising Muslims for centuries, are responding to the Christian faith at least in part because that faith chooses to meet them on their own ground by speaking their language. The whole New Testament has been translated into at least one of the Berber languages (with others in the pipeline), and work is well under way on the translation - into Amazigh, and related Berber languages - of the Hebrew scriptures.
I should also add that the Monte Carlo gospel radio uses a lot of music and songs in its broadcasts - another thing that is powerfully attractive to many Muslims, given that Islam forbids the liturgical use of music and indeed in severer forms (like the Taliban) seeks to eliminate music altogether.
According to "The Voice of the Martyrs," Muslims around the world are being converted to Christianity. Sometimes a oonversion by one family member causes a chain reaction and the entire family plus neighbors and friends convert. Other times, sadly, it ends, like the innocent Pervez girl, in death.
The Christianity found in the New Testament is the most powerful magnet in the world. The truth about Jesus causes people to think instead of following blindly. They begin to love Jesus and want to obey him because he is good! They learn to love their fellow man instead of hating and persecuting him. They want others to learn the truth that they have learned. Long live Christianity!
I once met an Evangelical Christian from Morocco whose card read M. (Last Name). I asked about the initial M., he looked very embarrassed, and admitted it stood for Muhammad.
Hey? What are the Muslims crying about? They want Palestine and Andaluz back; so why can't we reconquer the lands of Tertullian and Augustine by peaceful means that don't require the displacement of anyone?
Slightly OT, but I have seen somewhere an article that claimed the Chinese are becoming Christians at the rate of 10000/day! I hope it's true. Also it stated that very few Chinese become Moslem. The main reason suggested was that the Chinese view Christianity as something modern, and they are currently infatuated with being "modern"; e.g. by having things like high-speed railroads, and engaging in space exploration, and preparing for the Olympics. Also, they are keenly aware that all of the successful rich countries -- except for Japan -- are (more or less) Christian. Chinese want their country to be rich and modern, like the U.S. and Germany and France (to name a few) and not be a poor and ignorant backwater like Pakistan or Egypt, which be it noted, are Moslem.
