Here's an idea -- how about 20,000 Muslims protesting against bin Laden's jihad against non-Muslims?

Any takers? Anyone? Anywhere? Alevis? Anyone?

"Muslim Minority Marches Against German Crime Show," from Spiegel Online (thanks to all who sent this in):

The popular German TV series "Tatort" has provoked an uproar within a segment of its Turkish community. Alevi Muslims, who practice a tolerant offshoot of Shiism, say the show has revived a centuries-old incest libel and may inflame immigrant tensions in Germany.

Up to 20,000 Alevi Muslims in Germany gathered in front of the Cologne cathedral on Sunday to protest a broadcast of a popular TV series called "Tatort" (Crime Scene). Alevi leaders said the show played on a centuries-old prejudice against Alevis by showing a character involved in incest.

The protest "was absolutely peaceful," said a police spokesman according to Agence France-Presse. An Alevi leader in Germany, Mehmet Ali Toprak, told the Tageszeitung newspaper: "The Alevis respect freedom of press and freedom of opinion and are opposed to any ban on cultural expression. But these values must not be used to harm the dignity of a minority."

In other words, they've got to go, and pronto.

Here's an idea:

Broadcast the episode of Law & Order:SVU where the son of a Muslim diplomat slits his sister's throat in an 'honor' killing. Then when his mother testifies against him (resulting in his conviction), her throat is slit by her diplomat husband - who flees back to his country.

Or better yet, do a documentary detailing how old Muhammed's child bride was when he consummated their 'marriage' (read: child rape, since she was 9).

It's only libel when the writer knows that what they write is fiction, yet claims their writing to be true. If it's true ... deal with it.

Murderers and child rapists are the worst scums on this planet. Any so-called 'god' who would condone these crimes against humanity and children is truly demonic, and any human being who goes along with it in the name of 'religion' is truly a fiend.

Yet another "we respect freedom, but" emission. Is there anyone out there who still thinks Middle Eastern Muslims truly respect freedom -- that is, anyone's freedom but theirs to impose their religion, their customs, and their laws on the rest of us by force?

I have a better idea

http://illustratedpig.blogspot.com/2007/11/cut-their-balls-off.html

Why do they choose a cathedral to gather and protest in front of?!

Lori B.--

Law & Order actually did an episode dealing with female genital mutilation, but that was quite some time ago (early '90s or thereabouts). I don't remember how they dealt with the Islamic angle there; still, I wonder if such a storyline would get on the air today, or if they would try, recalling the heat 24 took in recent years for daring to include Muslims as bad guys in the plot.

OFFTOPIC: Happy New Year!!

May all in the New and Old World who follow the 'western' calendar enjoy a very Happy New Year (where I live, the New Year is already well and truly in, having been greeted with parties, fireworks displays, and quantities of non-halal beverages). And Happy Hogmanay to all Scots, and I hope all Germans had a riotously enjoyable Sylvesterabend.

One of the psy-ops functions of Robert Spencer and Hugh Fitzgerald's "Internet Hedge School for Infidels", is mutual encouragement. Hence Hugh's institution of the 'Interludes'.

Let us celebrate ALL of our non-Islamic festivals, feasts, customs and traditions with conscious enjoyment and vigour. So many of them are so much more fun than anything the Muslim calendar has to offer! Let us offer each other festive greetings whenever this is appropriate (for example: on 17 March I will offer a Happy St Patrick's Day to all Irish commenters).

(I hereby encourage those who post here who are not Christians, but who actively follow other non-Muslim belief systems, to mention and describe, at the appropriate times, those interesting and life-affirming festivals that they celebrate, all of which Islam would annihilate as so much 'jahiliyya' were it to gain control of their societies.

For example: such things as the Hindu 'festival of lights', Diwali, or the Chinese New Year.

A friend of mine, visiting England, described watching a group of British Hindus who turned loose on the Thames a floating statue of the 'goddess of happiness' - this friend, although a very strong and convinced Christian, was perfectly happy to witness this ceremony and felt no compulsion to condemn those taking part - indeed she was simply charmed when, as the gaily decorated 'goddess' merrily floated off down the grey and gloomy Thames, the cold rain ceased, the sun peeped out and a rainbow displayed itself.)

how about 20,000 Muslims protesting against bin Laden's jihad against non-Muslims?

Robert, I think you answered this question in an earlier post...

Back in 1946, an American diplomat asked an Iranian editor why his newspaper angrily criticized the United States but never the Soviet Union. The Iranian said that it was obvious. "The Russians," he said, "they kill people."

"It's possible that Germans have no prejudice against us. But a film like this can aggravate tension in the Turkish community between Alevis and Sunnis."

So this is more about aggravating tensions between Muslims vs. aggravating tensions between Muslims and non-Muslims? But how can that be? Surely if Alevis can expect infidel Germans to not be prejudiced, shouldn't even more tolerance and grace be expected of fellow "peaceful-religion" Sunni Muslims?

...Happy New Year , one and all...pray for peace...but be ready to fight....

I wonder how many have died through the centuries for harming the dignity of Islam? It takes so very little to warrant death in the eyes of the Jihadi. (As if they needed encouragement to kill non-Muslims besides what's in the Koran.)
A happy New Year and a prosperous one to all those who love freedom and fight against fascism in all its forms...and I am indeed, ready to fight.
To insure peace...prepare for war.

As most of you know i am from the 'Ole South' where we make jokes like 'incest begins at home.'

And you check your in-laws before you get married, just to be sure they don't have the same last name.

And since everyone has a least one crazy person in their family, you need to find out which side they are on. LOL

My question is; Why are these people upset? Do they practice incest. have they practiced it in the past?

Don't they realize they are in the EU now where anything goes?

We are happy to see things that used to be kept secret exposed on TV as it tends to keep it from being swept under that dirty Turkish carpet.

I don't understand why they are offended. And Why a Cathedral. Is it a real cathedral? Has to have a Bishop in Germany or it's called a Dom.

20,000 Muslims protesting against bin Laden's jihad against non-Muslims?

Regardless of what the president/white house/state department/FBI/DHS parrot, by now, America should know which side of the Islamic terror, muslims are.

Alexon, I agree with you, what has the Cologne cathedral got to do with this. These people are sick puppies consumed with conspiracies all around them. If they are not blaming somebody else for their failures and crimes, they then deny them altogether.

True adherents of Islam seem to be in a perpetual state of the terrible twos.

Happy New Year 2008 to all JW Posters..and especial thanks to Robert, Hugh, Greg and Marisol for all your daily-topical and educational posts, sprinkled with irony and humor (sometimes) for sauce; thanks for daily increasing the awareness of fellow Americans to the threat to our freedom posed by the Qu'ran, Sunnah,Hadiths and their adherents

The Spiegel has not given the full story to this.

There have been posts and comments about this matter on German blogs. Many people said that the script could have been written by the DITIB, the German branch of the Turkish Religious Affairs department, in that it was nothing more than propaganda for the 'real' Islam at the expense of the Alevis, who were the incest-perpetrating baddies.

The director said she was not aware of the incest-libel. How disingenuous. One has to wonder who advised her in her researches. A quick look at the history of pograms against the Alevis using the incest-libel as a weapon would have informed her. In 1993 37 Alevis were murdered in a pogram. The Sunnis persecute the Alevis because they are more tolerant, don't practise Sharia or gender-segregation, eg men and women pray together, don't do Dawa, and the women don't veil.

The general secretary of the Alevi community in his statement said that he felt that the producers were used by 'fundamentalist muslims' to portray 'fundamental islam' as good, and Alevis as bad. And of course they are an easy target.

It was propaganda aimed at Germans/non-muslims to show them how good and morally superior 'real' muslims are: The abused daughter was saved by the 'real' muslims and fled behind the veil, ie she became liberated as a woman. (I haven't been able to find the full narrative of the film, I just gathered this from the blogs.)

As one poster put it, the film wanted to send the message that incest is not islamic, that women willingly wear the veil, that there are no forced marriages in islam and that marriages made with husbands back in Turkey are love matches.

People could actually get hurt because of this. We know how quick muslims are to turn violent. Alevi children are taunted with the libel in school.

I don't normally agree with these demonstrations, but I have a lot of sympathy for the Alevis in this case.

Silvester

Thanks for providing the background on this protest. From the news article it really looks like a PR job to make the sharia followers look like the good guys and make the more secular Alevis appear as monsters.

"And since everyone has a least one crazy person in their family, you need to find out which side they are on. LOL"

Hey, Aunt Bea--

I'm a Southerner, too.

I'm trying to remember who said: "In the South, we don't hide our crazy relatives in the attic. We put them in the parlor, where everyone can enjoy them!" LOL

Part of me thinks this was a Foxworthy joke. The other part thinks Dixie Carter (as Julia) on Designing Women said it.

We must be loons, in the South. Nothing makes me laugh more than Southern/Redneck jokes!

Happy New Year, everyone! I'm early, for me. It's only half past ten here. But, what the hey?

Following Silvester's post above, I think JW is missing the point here, and that something very odd has happened.
The director, Angelina Maccarone, has been quoted as saying that she wanted "to portray the difficulties of discussing incest and child abuse within immigrant communities in Germany".
A worthy objective in itself, but WHY choose an Alevi background for an abuse and honour-killing storyline ? And to have an Alevi victim flee to safety behind the Sunni veil was just bizarrely contrarian.
Assuming that this is the same Angelina Maccarone who made "Unveiled", about an Iranian lesbian fleeing to Germany to escape persecution, it makes even less sense that she would want to attack a relatively liberal group of Muslims in a way that would benefit a more fundamentalist group.
So who really originated the "Tatort" storyline, and why ? Was it merely the product of utterly muddled thinking, or something more sinister ?

Must not be used? Huh, Mehmet?

You're free but your freedom "must not be used"?

When we want you to tell us when our freedoms may or may not "be used" we'll ask.

I know you think we're all stupid inferiors, but that's your problem not ours.

I've got your "dignity" right here pal!

BTW "Yes/But" is one of the oldest, best understood, idiotic mind games around.

Nobody falls for it.

I had never heard of the Alevis before today. If there are sensible factions within Islam these folks would have to be among them. The Wikkipedia entry under Alevi is in-depth-- here is an excerpt from the section titled "Relations with other Muslim groups":

"All evil developments in Islam are seen as the fault of Arab society and character. Sunnism, according to the Alevis, is not true Islam but an aberration that by its strict legalism opposes free and independent thought and is seen as reactionary, bigoted, fanatic, and antidemocratic."

Wow and wow.

I'm still wondering why they gathered in front of the cathedral...

Maybe they could base an episode of the German TV show on Dr. Yazeed "Yaz" Essa, who poisoned his wife then fled to Cypress - see:

http://www4.vindy.com/content/national_world/303403883792856.php

Also, does anyone know if there are any jihad connections in the Kenya church massacre described in recent news?

......no one cares if Muslims gather in front of a mosque....

......Muslims gathering in front of a cathedral garners much more attention...

......a key Muslim tenet is to appeal to the Non Muslim to convert to Islam...

.....a Muslim is a Muslim is a Muslim...........

......Never Forget......

why not in front of a mosque ?
well, it might be because the Alevi do not worship in mosques, or because if they stood outside a mosque then Sunni Muslims might attack them.
i would urge anyone who wishes to comment on this story to first READ the Spiegel report, and to then READ Silvester's post above. i have also posted what i believe are some helpful links above.
there is something very odd is behind this story, and maybe some evil intent.
