Iraqi policewomen are told to surrender their weapons

Sharia Alert from Brave New Iraq.

By Tina Susman for the Los Angeles Times (thanks to Zack):

BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi government has ordered all policewomen to hand in their guns for redistribution to men or face having their pay withheld, thwarting a U.S. initiative to bring women into the nation's police force.

The Interior Ministry, which oversees the police, issued the order late last month, according to ministry documents, U.S. officials and several of the women. It affects all officers who have earned the title "policewoman" by graduating from the police academy. It does not apply to men in the same type of jobs.

Critics say the move is the latest sign of the religious and cultural conservatism that has taken hold in Iraq since Saddam Hussein's ouster ushered in a government dominated by Shiite Muslims. Now, that tendency is hampering efforts to bring stability to Iraq by driving women from the force, said U.S. Army Brig. Gen. David Phillips, who has led the effort to recruit female officers.

Now why would they remove the guns from the female officers? Why, they are afraid of the "Bobbitt" syndrome. A man can't control himself with women not fettered in the head-to-toe garb that is required in muslim states, so obviously the female police officer will render justice on the spot and shoot off the male appendage. And in the dry climate, said appendage will shrivel to undetectable dimensions.(more so than now) The men should be afraid of muslim women totting guns. Kinda puts a crimp on smacking them around when dinner isn't served at exactly 6:23p and at the correct edible temperature. Not to mention that "No" now means "No". Forgetting the issue of sharia for the moment, wonder what would have happened to that poor Saudi girl had she been able to shoot her rapists? Unfortunately the indoctrination of women in islam is so strong that a only a few resolute and even stronger women are able to cast aside the shackles.

Muslim women with guns, yeah, definitely could have led to the downfall of muslim society. Shame that they will end up giving them away.

Yes, leave them no means to defend themselves -- these pieces of uncovered meat, these unchaperoned hussies, these shameless strumpets in their tight, revealing uniforms -- from the righteous outrage of pious Iraqi men. At the end of their first day without their guns, how many will be left un-raped or un-beaten?

uh oh.

iraq heading towards sharia?

disarm the women, make them docile, objects to be thrown away, baby making machines, home servants, slaves.

Where are the so called western feminists outraged that their sisters are being repressed?

Oh leon. Haven't you realized by now that the western feminist are behaving in the same hypocritical manner as those they accuse in the west? Nations that despite their obvious evils allow the feminists to spew their rhetoric. Nations that have seen the error of their ways and have ensured that women are treated equally before the law. A person would have better odds of truly seeing Santa Claus streak across the sky on Christmas Eve before the feminist organizations actually speak out against sharia.

Whatever "the surge" has and will giveth, Islam will surely taketh away.

Succintly put, awake.

Reminds me of something I used to scribble on my high school notebooks, "The Lord giveth, and Uncle Sam taketh away".

It is sad to see America's finest young men sent into harm's way to create another sharia state. Like Vietnam, the Iraq mess will be left for another president to clean up.

Vietnam was Johnson's mess, but it is remembered as Nixon's. Let's hope the next president is better at it than Nixon was.

P.J. O'Rourke said it best: "Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work, and then they get elected and prove it."

I will paraphrase something attributed to P.J. O'Rourke: George Bush probably thinks "Easy Rider" had a happy ending.

Give women guns!?!

No wonder they think that the West is decadent.

How could you carry out a "honor" killing when your victim has a gun and might shoot back?

Chaos might reign!

"BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi government has ordered all policewomen to hand in their guns for redistribution to men or face having their pay withheld, thwarting a U.S. initiative to bring women into the nation's police force."

...well,after all, it is difficult to rape a woman who is holding a 9MM Barretta....

Is Jihadwatch predictive?

The managers might keep a list: what turned out to be true, what not; and maybe they could periodically forward the list to the media.

The new year is very good time for that exercise.

Could you imagine the increased interest and respect if the site told (and kept track of, and publicized) predictions that came true, even against the wishes of the infidel ruling class?)

Say what you want about Ghaddafi but at least HE knows which end of the lightbulb goes into the socket...

Girls, forget about the pay and keep the guns. You can get another job. You can't get another life.

More evidence to prove the Iraq constitution is now a worthless artifact.

[end of 2nd paragraph to Preamble] ...so we sought hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder to create our new Iraq, the Iraq of the future, free from sectarianism, racism, complex of regional attachment, *discrimination*, and exclusion.

{end of 3rd para. Preamble } Sectarianism and racism have not stopped us from marching together to strengthen our national unity, following the path of peaceful transfer of power, adopting the course of just distribution of resources, and providing *equal opportunity for all*.

Article 14: Iraqis are equal before the law without discrimination based on *gender*, race, ethnicity, nationality, origin, color, religion, sect, belief or opinion, or economic or social status.

Article 15: *Every individual* has the right to enjoy life, security and liberty. Deprivation or restriction of these rights is prohibited except in accordance with the law and based on a decision issued by a competent judicial authority.

Article 16: Equal opportunities shall be guaranteed to *all* Iraqis, and the state shall ensure that the necessary measures to achieve this are taken.

Article 20: Iraqi citizens, *men and women*, shall have the right to participate in public affairs and to enjoy political rights including the right to vote, elect, and run for office.

Article 22: First: Work is a right for all Iraqis in a way that guarantees a dignified life for
them.

No, I didn't forget. I was saving the best for last:

Article 2:

First: Islam is the official religion of the State and is a foundation source of
legislation:

A. No law may be enacted that contradicts the established provisions of Islam

Pelayo,

To correct the Viet Nam record:

Jack Kennedy started it.
Johnson escalated it.
Nixon ended it.
The U.S. Democrat congress defunded it, thus ensuring defeat.

The situation for women in Iraq is worse off than it
was under Saddam (especially the early regime of Saddam, when he was promoting a secular revolution), because the country has become much more Islamicized. Hard to believe, that back in the 1970s, Iraqi women wore mini-skirts around Baghdad and the hijab was mainly worn by Iraqi women in the rural, more conservative areas... And Basra was a cosmopolitan city; now it's a snake pit of militias
engaged in internecine fighting over oil wealth.

FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!

The country is 95% plus muslim...what the hell did people expect them to do?

A country with islam as the rule, will follow it to the letter. Sooner rather than later.

Guess they forgot to put in a First and Second Amendment when they wrote that happy little Iraqi Constitution.

But they sure didn't forget the Sharia.

Brilliant geopolitical tinkering.

Fight to establish a Muslim theocracy.

Your tax dollars at shirk.

Speaking about armed Iraqi female police officers:

"'Now, that tendency is hampering efforts to bring stability to Iraq by driving women from the force,' said U.S. Army Brig. Gen. David Phillips, who has led the effort to recruit female officers."

Another American officer that doesn't know what Islam is all about.

The only saving feature of putting our troops in harm's way in Iraq is that they can kill jihadists there, because we aren't allowed to kill them over here--we have them in the courts that are so stacked in their favor that most can slither out and away from what they deserve.

Trouble is they (jihadists) are being reproduced faster than our troops are allowed to kill them over there (what with the Rules Of Engagement and the apprehension of possible courts-martial).

Of course that body-count thing really doesn't work, as we learnt in Vietnam. You gotta get at the source. Here it is Saudi, Iran, Syria, and Jordan. In Vietnam it was: China, Soviet Union, the DMZ, and North Vietnam.

Moral: Don't start wars that you can't finish. I mean FINISH, as we did with Japan and on a lesser scale with Germany.

Who are you talking about - the shards of the feminist movement of the 1970s? You know don’t you, that no real feminist movement exists.

There were those feminists who prepared the way in the 70s and 80s and who dissolved back into the woodwork sometime during the 1990s, being neither writers or capitalizers. They got a life.

Only Zombie profiteers remained to make money off the bones of the organizations left behind, NOW, Feminist Majority, MS, etc.

So at the start of the war when a few old feminists started speaking out about the position of Muslim women they, we, were shocked that those hollow “feminist” organizations would not stand with us, and were not there for Muslim women. In fact the organizations were wrong consistently on the issues, and denied and silenced us. On the other hand, the left women and the academics tried to shout us down.

I have been speaking out about using the war as an opportunity to elevate the slave status of Muslim women since the war stared at, www.greenconsciousness.org/weblog . Phyllis Chesler exposed the treatment of women in the Islamic fascist state at the Chesler Chronicles blog and in the book “The Death of Feminism”. Donna Hughes has a list of publications at http://www.uri.edu/artsci/wms/hughes/pubfund.htm

Elinor Burkett (So Many Enemies, So Little Time) has written on the issues related to Muslim women and did public speaking on those issues. Muslim women who call themselves feminists have been there, are there.

I believe the idea for women police came from my blog. I have been calling for this since 2003. Armed police women to protect domestic violence shelters and enforce secular family laws. No one else could conceive of this and I felt as if I was screaming in the wind.

But the State Dept Office of International Women’s Issues has made no effort to reach out to we feminist who had organizing credentials. Only Republican women have been called upon to organize projects for Afghanistan and Iraq. This, despite that so many women signed up for every on line Q & A they made available. But the Office on International Women's Issues and the military tried in their own way to be responsive.

The women in those offices were not free to reach out to us - I remember the day the Iraq constitution was adopted they were almost crying but said, under their breaths, that they felt helpless. I knew then that they had their orders. They had been told that they had to go along with the adoption of that constitution for the greater good. Where have we heard that before?

So now, having ignored the many US feminists who wanted to be involved and who want equal rights for Muslim women but who needed the State Dept to assist us in the effort, the Bush administration has no base of support for the liberation of Muslim women.

Every month of this war I wrote the State Dept and my representatives until I finally realized the Bush Adm. only used the women’s rights issues opportunistically. They love being able to call the ladies left auxiliary “the feminist movement”. And they make sure that real feminists have no input into policy making or program development. Then Laura put on the garbage slave outfit to visit their Saudi Friends.

Slowly we feminists are coming out of the fog of war to see how our organizations do not exists, how the ladies on the left in NOW are not feminists and how the Bush Adm has betrayed Muslim women. Politics as usual. But I believe in Bush's war because if we act to make it so, it will free Muslim women to expand their roles in society and to become part of the Resistance to fascism movement.

You all are part of this. Keep calling on feminist ORGANIZATIONS (NOW, Feminist Majority, MS. Hillary Clinton,OBAMA) to stop their hypocrisy but acknowledge the feminist women who have tried to do something. Understand that outside of Organizations we have no more power than you do.

This move will almost certainly herald a pogrom against these women for "collaborating" with the the infidels and daring to believe that their society might actually change. I wonder how many of these women will be foolish enough to actually surrender their weapons.

Right now there are hearings being held before Congress on the high suicide rate of Iraq war vets.
Does anyone wonder the damage that is being done to the minds of our soldiers when they encounter this insane culture?

I'm not for a pullout. I think we have to fight, but there has to be a better use of our firepower.
Give Barney his bullet, in fact give him a whole box.
