They are investigating the allegation because the Department of Justice set up a whole group of civil servants to investigate allegations:

"Initiative to Combat the Post-9/11 Discriminatory Backlash. The Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights has directed the Civil Rights Division’s National Origin Working Group to help combat violations of federal civil and criminal rights laws affecting individuals perceived to be of Middle Eastern descent."

These guys need to keep busy, you know. Budget justification and stuff like that. And they’re here to help.

I am so lucky I'm not in school anymore and glad I was lucky enough to go to school in the 1950s and 1960s when, basically, nothing horrible happened (in my schools). I feel sorry for children in school now.

Lets bear in mind that this is middle (junior high) school. Everyone gets teased and threatened and harrassed by everyone about anything. My experience of that age level was one of near-constant harrasment, threats and intimidation. I recall an incident in which a deaf girl was on campus for a while. She got teased some. I'll admit to beeing one of the teasers. Nothing serious - just kids beeing kids really. My friends and I ended up being questioned by the principal, 2 teachers, and then some guy from off-campus from some department of whatever accosted me as I was getting on the bus and I had to endure a 5 minute lecture about tolerance, respect and etc.... Now, I'll admit that some of what I said was inappropriate - not defending it. Even at the time though, I bristled under the very obvious double standard. At that time, I had to endure threats and intimidation and muttered growls in the PE locker room of "*! white boy". I was frequently teased for the way I dressed, or about what brand of shoes I wore, the way I talked or the way I walked or just for not being in the "in-crowd". I don't remember so much as a verbal reprimand from the local janitor for any of this. But- you take on some member of the "Victim Class" and then, the powers that be swing into action. The fact that the Justice Department is 'investigating' what really is a minor, typical playground incident is a typical example of seeing certain people as beeing in a 'protected group'. At the end of the day folks, what we have here is a boy stealing a girls hat - hardly a new or troubling thing. Unfortunately, its being hyped as "Islamophobia" by groups that want to use this girl as a rather unfortunate pawn in their Islamist political agenda.

In a strange way, this girls situation is a sort of strange microcosm of the situation of the Palestinians. Yes, there in a tough situation, their lives are difficult. I agree with many of the comments above. The Justice Dept will set an example out of this kid for intolerance against another cultural group. One reason I dislike multiculturalism!!!

I was given a hard time at that age and often threatened but I survived but I agree it is much more than that with this Muslim girl and CAIR.

I agree on putting on limit on Muslim immigration but not a total ban. They should only be allowed in after careful screening, but this should apply to all immigrants. This school where the muslim girl claims to have been threatened is just a few blocks from my house. Ahmed Bedier from CAIR was all over television on this one and in the newspapers. Not one organized voice was heard in defense of the school or of the accused, even after the lack of corroborating evidence was revealed.

Yesterday, a classmate of my 11 year-old daughter called her a "Jesus-freak" because she wears a small crucifix on her necklace. I immediately contacted the Justice Department and within the hour, the perpetrator of this horrific crime was charged with abusing the human-rights of my daughter. One thing that distinguishes the West from Arab-based-Islamic-Imperialism is that the West has become very critical and self-critical of these rationalizations for Imperialism-dominance. For example, the behavior of the Arab-Persian-Muslim invaders of India, their destruction of the indigenous Hindu culture there, was very similar to what Pizzaro did in Peru. The West is very critical of Spain's behavior in Peru, but Arab-based-Islam has no self-criticism of what was done in India. These same sympathies led to the Tawana Brawley case (who coincidentally has since converted to Islam), or the Duke lacrosse rape case. 50 or 100 years ago, the inclination would have been to ignore claims like these, true or not. I admit I'm no lawyer. But I find it hard to believe that there is no law being broken when a foreign government spends a very significant amount of money in our country in order to 1) build "centers of worship" to spread their supremicist ideology, 2) purchase our media outlets to stifle coverage, 3) use corruption to influence our politicians, and 4) use our court systems to censor any discussion of it.

Even if Islam were a religion as opposed to an all-encompassing supremicist ideology, we have laws guaranteeing that our own government shall not prosyletize for any religion; so why is a foreign government able to prosyletize, without any limit whatsoever, for an ideology that is incompatible with our own Constitution and laws, and is in fact hostile to the ideas contained within them?

Once again a Western society, in this case America, protects Muslims, even with spurious or dubious claims as this one likely is, far more than any Muslim society would ever protect a non-Muslim, who's nothing but a dhimmi anyway. Last time I checked, no trial yet. I couldn't find any scheduled trial date, nor whether the two suspects, Edward McDonald and Hamilton Sanchez, were still being held in prison pending trial. It is coming up on 3 years since the Armanious family was murdered. Many questions remain unanswered.

I read your comment with great interest. The current Western culture is unique in history (at the present time) in its self-criticism of its own imperialist rationalization systems. Arab-Invented-Islam ("the best people") is still in a demented-self-righteous-infantile-stage that Western Culture was in 400 years ago, 300, 200, 100 years ago (and other cultures were in before that). Islam is just another (mainly Arab centered)rationalization system for Imperialism-supremacism.

The commercial based (as opposed to religious-ideological based) Imperial-isms seem to respect indigenous cultures more than the "religious"-ideological imperial-isms. The Brits (somewhat like the Dutch) were more inclined to "tolerate" anything that does/did not interfere with commerce. These ideological-"religious" Imperial-isms (Spain, Arabs, e.g.) are predatory and cruel to indigenous cultures.

American exploration-immigration was no great shakes for the "Native Americans", but truth is that the Brits would never have established commercial colonies in North America if the "Indians" had not been busy killing and subduing each other (it's history-everywhere). We are a commercial nation. We are much like the British: we are a commercial sea-based people and seek influence via commerce.

Now we have China entering the picture. I think China will follow in the commercial-imperialism pattern. Frank: Thanks for your thoughtful response. Though not religious myself, there is absolutely no question in my mind that Jesus is far preferable to Mohammed as an ethical teacher. Thomas Jefferson did not think Jesus divine but did consider him to be the greatest moral leader of all time. Jefferson also shrewdly observed that where there is no private property, there is no liberty. Your contention, a correct one I think, that commercial imperialism tends to respect indigenous cultures, at least relative to ideological imperialisms if not absolutley, would be rooted in legal systems that recognize the indispensable value of private property and which as a result tend to be more flexible about other peoples' belief systems because property is paramount. This is, of course, lost on totalitarian types, whether secular or spiritual, who tend to devalue property (Marxism extremely so) because ideology is paramount. And no major religion fits into the paradigm of a totalitarian ideology with the exception of Islam, a religion which will cause heartache and grief for untold numbers for untold years to come.

I'll bet that if we look at this case a little more closely, this girl is provided other special considerations on school property because she is a Muslim -- like a special space to pray in, and maybe even foot baths.

I'll bet the Justice department wouldn't list a finger if this were the case.

I really hope someone checks this out. I strongly suspect that many public schools in this country are accomodating the special religious needs of Muslims. It would fit in perfectly with the ideology of multiculturalism and diversity that our school systems operate under.

Does anyone (outside the justice department and muslim community) seriously believe that this boy told the girl that he was going to shoot and kill her? It sounds suspiciously like something a muslim would say, and I can't help but feel that this claim has been fabricated, most likely by an adult member of this young girl's family. They really think we infidels are that stupid.

Put it this way. Which would you rather Russian soldiers and Chinese villagers were reading - the Bible or the Quran? Once again, if we care about the future of humanity and of civilisation, a nice big donation to the work of the Bible Society in Russia, or the Bible Society in China, is probably the most bang you will get for your buck - whether you are a Christian or not!

Interesting post, especially your info on Russia, which was all news to me.
In regard to China, I've seen similar news-items elsewhere. One in particular which struck me was that the Chinese are converting to Christianity at the rate of 10,000 per day, while virtually none are converting to Islam. A reason given is that Christianity is seen as modern and progressive, like skyscrapers, high-speed railroads, and space flight, all being pushed by the Chinese. Islam is regarded as something backward and/or stagnant.
A related, and equally encouraging, figure I've seen is that Moslems in Europe are leaving Islam at the rate of 2,000 per day. I don't know if these numbers are accurate, but I hope they are.

.....I agree....just see what happens when a Christian child demands prayer time or a prayer room...or the Christian wants to carry a bible or read verses from the bible, or suggest prayer over a meat or at the beginning of a sporting event, or to encourage in participation of traditional Christian events, or to suggest others to join them on Sunday in Church....

....all of which sound much better than "Convert or die"....
