Website postings like the ones quoted in this article are obnoxious and wrong. When I see the like here, I take them down. But Ezra Levant is right: "...when someone hurts your feelings, you can respond, write a letter to the editor, call a talk radio show, start a political campaign. But you don't go running to the government."
Or at least he was right. Now that the magazine has apologized, Kathy Shaidle explains exactly what is wrong with such a gesture: "Here we see the difference between shame-based and honor-based cultures at work -- the imam and other Muslims will view this magnanimous gesture as a sign of weakness and more complaints will follow, each one even stupider than the last."
"Anti-Muslim web postings spark rights complaint," by Sean Myers in the Calgary Herald (thanks to Five Feet of Fury):
A local Muslim leader has launched a human rights complaint against the website of a defunct magazine, claiming a recent string of user comments on its blog promote hatred against followers of Islam.Calgary police are also investigating allegations levelled by Syed Soharwardy of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, that comments on the Shotgun Blog of the Western Standard website advocating violence against Muslims could constitute a hate crime.
The entry, dated Dec. 5 and written by a user named Templar, said, "there is no such thing as innocent Muslims." Templar goes on to write "They must all be killed. All of them."
Syed Soharwardy of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada says comments on the Western Standard website constitute hate-mongering and are "against Canadian values."
Another user, OBC, responds by saying Muslims should be deported from western countries, adding that he'd be "in favour of their eradication" if they "don't behave back there."
"This is absolutely pure hate- mongering," said Soharwardy. "It's an abuse of freedom of speech. It's against Canadian (hate) laws."
Nagah Hage, chairman of the Muslim Council of Calgary which represents the majority of Muslims in the city, said the website should be forced to take down the offensive comments.
"The police have to do something about this," said Hage. "This is racism. This is filling the minds of people with hatred. Who knows what it might lead to down the road."
The original Dec. 2 posting that sparked the user comments was written by former Western Standard publisher Ezra Levant. He was discussing complaints by the Canadian Islamic Congress against Maclean's magazine.
It's the anonymous responses to Levant's posting that have angered Muslim leaders.
Levant, who no longer owns the website or the Western Standard name, said he doesn't personally agree with the comments, but argued they should be protected as free speech.
"In Canada, when someone hurts your feelings, you can respond, write a letter to the editor, call a talk radio show, start a political campaign. But you don't go running to the government," said Levant. "Mr. Soharwardy has to realize he is in a free country now."
But maybe he isn't.
"Magazine apologizes for 'hateful' blog comments," from CBC News (thanks again to Five Feet of Fury):
The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada cancelled a protest planned for Friday in Calgary over anti-Muslim comments made on a Western Standard blog site, after receiving an apology from the magazine's owner."Mr. Matthew Johnston, who is the new owner of the Western Standard, he called me last night and he apologized on the phone," Imam Syed Soharwardy, president of the Islamic council, said Friday.
[...]
The imam said Johnston told him the statements were hateful and offended not only Muslims but also the management and readers of the Western Standard, and that the magazine would try to better monitor what's posted on its site.
"They will have responsible journalism and editing and monitoring of their blog," Soharwardy said. "I thank him for his recognition of the problem and doing exactly what we wanted him to do, is to apologize and make sure it does not happen again."
The human rights complaints have now been withdrawn, he said.
"promote hatred against followers of Islam."
This insane PC prohibition against "hate" is really, really getting tiresome. And it's ludicrous in the extreme.
I hate Nazis, I hate the KKK, I hate Islam. I can hate anything I want. You don't control my emotions! I can like/dislike love/hate *anything* I want if I consider it WORTHY of being hated. And there are MANY reasons why I consider Islam WORTHY of being hated.
This insane, inane, embargo against "hate" is nothing more than a PC method of shutting people up about Islam.
"Islamic Supreme Council" certainly says it all--a quasi-government-in-the-making; an intra-communal ruling body, rather like a quasi-legislature; an oligharchical enterprise subordinating its constituency and precluding other voices and representation; a pre-packaged body politic, the structure of which is a potential state-within-a-state, if its local sub-units occupy a defined locality. Yep, sounds like religio-political institution of an Islamic polity--a mini-state in the making to me!
Of course these hate-speech laws are an abomination themselves as there are purposely broad and overly inclusive, and because they supercede existing laws that govern the abuse of free speech in the advocacy, planning or commission of crimes as such--incitement to violence, slander or libel; speech that has readily seen, obviously malicious intent, that seeks to do demonstrable harm, and is already prosecutable. Victims of demonstrably malicious speech already had legal recourse to redress grievances and injury.
Typo: "as there are" should read "as they are ..."
"The police have to do something about this," said Hage. "This is racism. This is filling the minds of people with hatred. Who knows what it might lead to down the road."
Yeah, it might lead to the complacent natives of that country getting really, really angry, rising up and kicking your butts back to Mecca.
doomed we are, doomed
'Kill the infidels, kill the Jews, death to America, death to Israel, wipe the infidels out to the last, kill them wherever you find them"
all this and more is the essence of Islam, from Timbuktu to Sulawesi and from Kabul to Mogadishu.
'Killing infidels is a small matter to us"- and proving it daily, 24/7 in 30+ jihad theaters in the world, Muhammedanism has almost a monopoly on violence, terror and hatred.
And yet, when you or I say 'kill all Muslims' it makes us 'racist and Islamophobic', and it is us who are guilty of a 'hate-crimes' according to the Islamo-agit-props and their Stalinist enablers.
The blow-back will come, as it must. Sooner is better.
The Quran has an awful lot of hate in it about Jews, Christians and most of all Pagans.
NO MORE QUOTING THE QURAN!
Oops, sorry I forgot woman and black dogs.
PC will be the downfall of the west. Unfortunately it reminds me of my niece when she was 3 or 4 years old, between sobs she would state, "You hurt my feelings". No logic, no answer, but emotions are the rule of thumb. Could we restart the Muhamed cartoon controversy if I state while using the facilities after wiping I looked down and said , "Hey look, ... Muhamed"?
It’s all about hurt feelings;
March 624: Asma bint Marwan
Asma was a poetess who composed a negative poem about Muhammad.
When the Allah-inspired prophet heard it he asked, "Who will rid me of Marwan’s daughter?"
A member of her husband’s tribe volunteered and crept into her house that night.
She had five children, and the youngest was sleeping at her breast.
The assassin gently removed the child, drew his sword, and plunged it into her, killing her in her sleep.
Yep, that's what you get for hurting Mo's feelings.
Even if he (MO) is dead, his followers are commanded to follow his example.
There are the times he forgave;
http://www.cair.com/ArticleDetails.aspx?mid1=777&&ArticleID=23869&&name=n&&currPage=2
So I guess the reactions depend, on what kind of mood MO’s having at any giving time. Same goes for his followers.
"Say, [O Muhammad, to mankind]: If you love Allah,
follow me;
Allah will love you." (Al'Imran 3/31)
Yep, feel the love.
Islamania cries that it's hated but refuses to genuinely figure out why this is the case. It is quite natural to hate those who hate you-if someone wants such hatred to stop they need to conduct a little self examination of the cause and take steps to improve the situation. Maybe when Islamaniacs stop killing, raping, stealing and playing the victim in many instances where they are not they won't be as hated.
I am still waiting to see whether some brave Canadian will go to a mosque or Islamic Center, pick up some standard propaganda/Islamic hate literature, and file a damn complaint about Islamic hatemongering.
Good for the goose, good for the gander , eh?
What he should have said:
"The police have to do something about this," said Hage. "This is Islam. This is filling the minds of people with hatred. Who knows what it might lead to down the road."
When will government officials read the islamic texts? When will they send monitors into the mosques to hear what is being preached?
We saw what happens to quasi-Christians (Koresh) when they get a little wobbly.
"written by a user named Templar, said, "there is no such thing as innocent Muslims." Templar goes on to write "They must all be killed. All of them."
There is reason such idiotic ramblings should be taken down from comment sections of blogs. That reason being in many cases they aren't simply delusional ramblings but trolls looking to discredit the site in general and it's host in particular.
I have no problem believing the above post was written by a Muslim looking for an excuse to take a case to the HRC.
"A local Muslim leader has launched a human rights complaint against the website of a defunct magazine, claiming a recent string of user comments on its blog promote hatred against followers of Islam."

Well of course the raw truth is: anytime a civilized person refers to Islamic practices around the world, Islamists and Islamic apologists will complain that such speech "promotes racism/ hatred/ bigotry". When we show how Islam really works, what Islamic societies really practice, we are holding up to the light -for all to see- the results of adopting the Religion of War*. A sane person, being shown how backward, corrupt, and destitute Islamic countries are, could hardly hold a positive view of Islam. Therefore: "promoting hatred toward Islam" (by showing reality).
* ("Religion of Peace" is one of those Orwellian constructions, like "FREEDOM IS SLAVERY; IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH". Islam has plenty of slavery and ignorance, too.)
