It's pretty damn obvious that when Abbas says "our homeland and our struggle to liberate it" he means what the 'Palestinian' Arab Muslims and indeed the whole Ummah has always meant: 'homeland' = the entire Land of Israel, and 'struggle to liberate" = the goal of destroying the Jewish state, killing, enslaving or exiling all five-six million Jews in it, looting everything in sight, and setting up a majority-Muslim Arab state in its place.

Time to quit playing their games.

No more aid. No more 'talks'. No more hudnas. No 'Palestinian' state - unless a Christian one, after all the Muslims are expelled, for the more sensible among the Christians would probably be happy to set up a trade-and-mutual-self-defence union with the Jewish state. I am sure the persecuted, frightened, harassed Christians of Gaza, one of whom has already been killed for being too outspokenly Christian, would be delighted to lose all their threatening Muslim neighbours, ring their churchbells as loud as they liked, and receive the protection of the earnest young Jewish soldiers of the IDF rather than the expensive and useless mafia-style 'protection' provided by the standover men of warring Muslim Arab gangsta clans.

Jews (together with the Arabised Christians, and the Samaritans) have a moral, legal and historical right to live as free people in the entire historic Land of Israel - a much better right than the johnny-come-lately imperialist Muslims, whose period of dominion over that land was an unmitigated disaster for its native Jews, its Christians, its Samaritans, and even for the Muslims themselves, due to the chaotic misrule, wanton destruction of the human and natural resource base, and ceaseless warfare at every level (from intra-familial to inter-dynastic) which typified that dominion from start to finish.

Muslims have never permitted, nor will ever permit, to Jews or to Christians or any other non-Muslims, equal rights with themselves in any state that they, Muslims, dominate; whereas in Israel proper, e.g. in Haifa or Jaffa, the basic human rights of Arab/ised Muslims and of Christians are scrupulously upheld.

Therefore: a Jewish-majority state governing the Land of Israel(INCLUDING Gaza, Judea and Samaria, and ALL of Jerusalem) is a far better bet for the maintenance and defence of human rights within that area, of freedom of speech and freedom of religion, peace and good order, than any Muslim-dominated entity would ever be.

No, Islam is not a shapeshifter. There is just a lot of nuance and complexity within Islam, as there is for anything involving over a billion people.

If you're "confused" and "off-balance", I have an idea: stop trying to look at Islam as a monolith, and appreciate the complexities and nuance of the situation. That will clear things up.

This "Islam is not a monolith" mantra has its obvious apologetic uses, but far from being ignored, it is wilfully misunderstood and given far too much credence, of the wrong kind. No, Muslims vary in their food, in their clothes, and even in elements of their faith -- see Sunnis and Shiites and Ibadi Muslims, see Sufis whose apprehension of God is said to be mystical, and who comprise about 2% of the world's Muslims. But this evidence that "Islam is not a monolith" ignores the real point: that Islam as a belief-system, in everything that concerns attitudes toward Infidels, is indeed unremarkably the same, for in every major branch of Islam, in every land where Islam is practiced, the basis for Islamic beliefs -- Qur'an, Hadith (with their isnad-chains studied, and the stories ranked according to their supposed authenticity by the most authoritative muhaddithin, such as Bukhari and Muslim), and Sira -- are the same. There is not a "Tunisian" set of Hadith, nor an "Indonesian" Sira.

The lapidary formula of Ibn Warraq still holds: There are moderate Muslims. Islam itself is not moderate.

And we have no way to figure out which Muslims will, for all time, unto the nth generation, remain "moderate" and which will revert to that old-time religion, which reversion is a permanent danger to the legal and political institutions of the Bilad al-kufr, and to the physical security of Infidels, everywhere.

That is a point that repetition of such phrases as "Islam is not a monolith" cannot be allowed to obscure.

What's the alternative? Subjugate all Muslims, thereby increasing the chances that the moderates "revert" to Islam?

Why do you think the Wars of Religion ended in Europe? I was taught (by a Rebbitzen, none too fond of Arabs/Muslims) that they ended because Europeans decided they were sick of dying for their religion--NOT because they followed the Spencer formula, in which preachers suddenly changed their tune and denounced their holy warriors. Why do you think a similar transformation can not occur within the Islamic World, given the right circumstances?

Our efforts at diplomacy and our funding of the moderates are having a positive effect. These things take time, we need to be patient. Stay the course; we cannot flip flop in our policy. We're not there yet, but we're at the threshold of a breakthrough.

I wouldn't think of trying to answer for Hugh, but I do know that neither he nor Robert has ever advocated "subjugat[ing] all Muslims".

Speaking for myself, I think the answer is clear: encourage all Muslims to follow all tenets of their holy and peaceful religion, without interference from the corrupt kaffirs, back in the comforts of their idyllic Islamic homelands.
