My article, "Somalia: The Rise and Fall of an Islamist Regime" in the September 2007 edition of the Journal of International Security Affairs, is now online here.
And soon, from the looks of things, it may be time for a sequel: "Somalia: The Rise and Fall and Second Coming of an Islamist Regime."
Outstanding analysis Robert..
In stark contrast to your well written, sourced, & documented paper, I recently watched the HBO documentary on Darfur...
It's sad to see the depths some peole will go to deny the truth...
Marry Christmas to you & yours Robert...

Once again, Robert, you are too kind to the western media -- the apoligists, facilitators, haters -- who bear direct responsibility for the deaths of so many American soldiers and countless freedom-loving people around the world. How long can their culpability be ignored? ... tolerated?
I get the feeling that the great American public are of two minds about the British. In one camp some are happy to see us fail, and rejoice at National Guard recruitment videos that show the thin red line defeated.
On the other hand, usually serving troops and people with brains appreciate our bloody lost. Mr Yon is an example of an American who appreciates the British Army. His Men of Valor reports came from the heart, as all of his reports do.
In truth I stopped my routine to honour a young man who died from my town. Hundreds of others have been affected. But he died. His Regiment put on the show that his sacrifice deserved. Regardless of what the media say about the public supporting the troops, this guy had a street parade.
Does anybody Believe Trevor Brookes is going to get a street parade when somebody stops him breathing?
Are there any books available about Somalia's Islamist regime? If so, please let me know about them. I may wish to purchase them.
Now, Secretary Rice has begun to hector the Ethiopians, so the 'second coming' should be just around the corner. (Of course, when Sec. Rice speaks, you can see the lips of the career arabists at State move. If you look closely, you can even see the little strings moving her hands.)
