MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Muslim leaders on Thursday denounced as un-Islamic the slaying of a Toronto-area teenager who had clashed with her family, but said some parents would view themselves as having failed in their duty if their daughter chose not to wear the hijab.The comments came at a tense news conference at the Islamic Society of North America Canada headquarters in Mississauga, held three days after the alleged strangling death of 16-year-old Aqsa Parvez. Her father, Mohammad Parvez, is accused of killing her and friends say the family had argued over the girl's refusal to wear the hijab, or traditional Muslim head-scarf.
While stressing the sanctity of human life, denouncing the crime and describing it as a case of domestic abuse, religious leaders insisted on the hijab's importance to parents - even if a daughter rejects it.
"They were believing that part of their culture was hijab, and it is their duty to convince their kids that this is part of their culture," said Mohammad Alnadvi, who sits on the Canadian Council of Imams. "So if the daughter makes the decision, then they have failed."
Still, Imam Alnadvi said that judging from the information he received, hijab was only one of the issues.
"This girl she refused to stay at home," he said. "There were feelings that she is going in some wrong direction ... going with some other boy or some other thing."
After he made those comments, two females in hijabs interrupted him and started to disagree, before abruptly leaving the gym where the conference was held.
Why didn't they stick around and challenge him?
In an interview afterward, the women - a mother and daughter - said they had taken Aqsa into their home on various occasions, but would not offer any more information.The convener of the event, Sheikh Alaa Elsayed, said that one of the keys to getting daughters to wear the hijab is teaching them about religion at a young age. The other, he said, is "a proper spouse."
In his introductory remarks filled with religious references, Arabic flourishes and abundant blessings, Elsayed stressed that parents should teach the benefits of the religious clothing. "We have to be successful teachers," he said, adding later in the dialogue that parents should encourage daughters "to do the right thing."
Still, he said, words and deeds were more important than clothing.
Citing the Koran, Elsayed said it is forbidden to hit anyone, adding that taking away a human life is an act against all humanity. "No religion condones such an act," he said.
He also spoke out against moving away from faith.
"We cannot let culture supercede religion," he said. "If we stay away from the teachings of Islam, we will pay for it."
Yes, Aqsa paid for it, all right.

How long does Sheikh Alaa Elsayed think he can continue with this nonsense and lies? Does Alaa Elsayed think that Lying Blatant is better than Lying Indirect, or that Lying Indirect is better than telling the truth, when the truth is but a single mouse-click away? It is easy to find the Qur'an, many different translations laid out synoptically for easy comparison. It is easy to find the most "authentic" Hadith. It is easy to find the sites of knowledgeable ex-Muslims -- for example, those at www.faithfreedom.org -- and eventually the elsayeds of this world will be seen for what they are, those conducting Jihad through propaganda, aiming for the same goal -- to ensure that everywhere all barriers to the spread, and then to the dominance, of Islam, throughout the world, are removed. The only difference is that Alaa Elsayed, for now, cannot employ certain methods,and chooses the more effective one of propaganda -- nonsense and lies -- to further the Cause of Islam. , though employing different methods, from those who would, or do, set off bombs.

The propaganda. Okay, let's engage in a bit of fantasy. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that the koran does not call for the killing of women who do not wear the hajib or for any other reason given to justify "honor" killings. The koran most emphatically provides the environment for which "honor" killings can exist. When anyone is treated as property and not as equal human beings, creations of God, it becomes easy to justify abuse. When it is easy to justify abuse, then it becomes easy to justify murder. All it takes for one muslim to kill another muslim is to declare one an apostate. How does this happen? Simple, just state that the "apostate" is not a true muslim by one's own definition of what being a true muslim entails. By disobeying her parents, poor Aqsa set herself up to be an apostate. The hajib is inconsequential. Good muslim girls blindly obey their parents, to do otherwise is to not be a good muslim girl. Hence she is no longer following "true" islam. And, wait for it, therefore is an apostate. So, while "honor" killing itself may not be in the koran, the koran definiteyl justifies "honor" killings. Therefore it is most definitely islamic.

The so-called “honor killing” of women and girls in some Muslim nations is one horrifying manifestation of this global phenomenon.

In Qur’an, prophetic tradition, and law, one finds a very strong presumption of women’s chastity along with numerous safeguards to prevent any imputation of unchastity. Within such a context, honor killings are utterly criminal. Numerous prophetic traditions report that when asked about a husband finding his wife with another man, the Prophet agreed that the husband must procure three additional witnesses to her act before the public authority can judge her offense; otherwise he would be liable to lashing for publicly accusing her or to being killed if he killed. If a woman discovered in flagrante cannot be even publicly accused unless there are four witnesses to her act, then mere suspicion can never justify slaying a woman. .
From the perspective of Qur’an, prophetic traditions, and law, sex outside of a legally binding tie is considered zina, and is punishable for both women and men. Though there is a double standard in that men are, under certain circumstances, permitted to have several lawful sexual partners while women must always remain monogamous,unlike in the case of honor killings for actual or suspected sexual misconduct, in which only women are targets.
A Muslim woman's life belongs to her father and secondarily to other males in her family and then to her husband. It is never ever her own life. She must always be the 'responsibility' of a man.
What the imam says is true. The father was remiss in his responsibility of brainwashing, terrifying and humiliating his daughter to the point that she would 'naturally on her own' choose the hijab.
I have heard this before. The double speak reminds me of the debate about freedom of religion where the immams bald face lying claim there is no compulsion in religion either. There is no compulsion in hijab. Wear it or not. It is your choice. The fact that you are killed for not wearing it has nothing to do with the fact that in fact you were free to choose.
It's just like the learned immam says there is no compulsion here. allah gives you the right to choose. The fact that the consequences of choosing one way leads to death has nothing to do with islam. You are killed by allah or his slave for a poor life style choice you made.

Questions journalists might ask Sheikh Alaa Elsayed:
1) Should Muslim women be allowed to divorce their husbands for mistreatment of themselves or of others? Would murdering a daughter be sufficient grounds for a divorce? Would supporting attacks on the political and legal institutions of Canada that guarantee the equal rights of women be a sufficient ground for a Muslim woman demanding divorce?
2) At what age should a Muslim woman be held ready to be a "spouse"? What if that age conflicts with the laws of an Infidel nation-state? Should a Muslim ignore those laws, pretend to obey them, or actually obey them?
3) The same question, but this time about the number of wives a Muslim man takes. Should he engage in polygamy even if the laws of the Infidel nation-state prohibit the practice? Should he pretend to obey, but secretly keep another wife or two? Should he actually obey those laws, without complaining, or attempting to undo them?
There are many such questions. But those three will do for now.

Answer: the Qura’an states in three places i.e. 004.034, 038:044 og 004:015 that women shall be punished by beating or estrangement.

Answer: if you read the beginning of this verse no. 005:032 it states clearly that Allah/Muhamed is addressing the Israelis and not the Muslims. This line is in fact a threat to the Israelis that if they don’t behave they will take the consequences which are elaborated further in verse 005:033.

Just out of curosity, I checked the National organization of women's web site to see what they had to say about this poor Girl's death. I couldn't find anything, but I did find numerous other articles alleging harrassment against women, including this article about a complaint against a Federal Judge in Galveston, Texas for sexual harrassment.
I'm not sure exactly what the Judge is alleged to have done, but it doesn't mention strangulation, or anything like that.
It also doesn't mention the Judge's race or religion either, but I strongly suspect that that he is a White Male, especially since Sheila Jackson Lee is demanding an investigation into the his conduct. My instincts also tell me that he is a Christian.
I don't have to guess what NOW's reaction would be if the Judge were Black, Muslim and a Male. I already know. The absence of any mention of the murder of a poor, unfortunate, 16 year old, girl in Canada by her Pakistani, Muslim, Male father, says it call.

Kent, of Galveston, Texas, regarding sexual harassment complaints. Kent was reprimanded by and suspended from the bench by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on September 28, 2007, but that suspension ends on January 1, 2008.

The imams keep suggesting there was more to it than the hijab. That may well be the case. I'd like to know more myself. For example, was an autopsy done? What did it find? Were there bruises and/or scars from past abuse? Was she circumcised, and if so, to what extent? Was she pregnant? Not that any of these suggestions would excuse her father's actions, but the public might be interested in how Moslem children are typically treated.
Also, has there been a search of the house, and an investigation of Papa's bank records? For example has there been a large number of e-mails or phone calls to the Old Country? If e-mails, what did they say? Was there a recent purchase of air tickets to the Old Country -- one round-trip, for Papa, and one one-way, for Aqsa?

It's the episode of Little Mosque on the Prairie that I missed. The one where the father is so angry with his teenage daughter for not wearing the hijab that he strangles her to death. Perhaps it will be in the special features section of the DVD version, released just in time for the holiday that used to be known as Christmas, but not any longer because the word might hurt someone's feelings.
Not that we know why, or even if Muhammad Parvez killed his 16-year-old daughter Aqsa last week in Mississauga, Ont. But we do know that he has been charged with the crime and that friends told reporters there had been terrible arguments about Aqsa's refusal to wear Islamic head covering and that she wanted a different path from that of her family.
Most Canadian Muslim leaders immediately condemned what had happened but it didn't take very long for the usual suspects to explain on radio and television that the tragedy had nothing to do with the Muslim faith and that all religions contain extremism. Islam, we were told, is a religion of peace.
Which is probably just what the owner of a Christian bookstore in Gaza thought three months ago as he was murdered and his shop firebombed. Or Danny Pearl, shortly before the American journalist had his head cut off by Islamic terrorists -- who, naturally, filmed the whole thing and made sure their chants from the Koran were loud and clear.
Or the wretched gang-rape victim in Saudi Arabia sentenced to 200 lashes for daring to be in a car at the time of the crime with a man to whom she was not married or related. Or the women stoned to death for adultery. Or the Iranian men hanged because they were homosexual.
Or the women who lived and died under the Taliban. Or the Christians persecuted and killed in Pakistan, Egypt and Sudan.
Or the young women in France, Britain and all over Europe killed by fathers and brothers for leaving Islam, dressing like other girls or dating non Muslims.
Or the teacher who allowed a student to name a teddy bear Muhammad, or Salman Rushdie's translator whose throat was cut from ear to ear, or movie director Theo Van Gogh who was slaughtered like an animal in the middle of a Dutch street.

IF only the western media would qualify this for what it is (barbaric) peaceful Muslims would find more strength to resist the jihadists. However since the learned in the West are blind with self-loathing and "nooble savage" nonsense, more Muslims girls wwill die because of them.
Muslims feel justified to go on doing things like this because we don't condemn it more strongly.
The father's FAILURE to brainwash his daughter into subservience was a family tragedy of epic proportions. However, by employing a rich cultural custom of noble Muslims, he was able to redeem himself and restore family honor.

CBC Radio today mentioned the girl's "refusal to wear traditional clothing" but did not state whose tradition, did not name a religion and did not say the word hijab.
Gee, for a minute there I got confused and thought another Scottish girl had been murdered by her father for not wearing a kilt or another German girl for not wearing lederhosen.

I love Canada and wouldnt call Canadians 'brainwashed'; maybe 'extremely indoctrinated' by the Canadian MSM would be more charitable. One can only hope that a sentencing Judge will administer a proper amount of prison time for a man who strangles to death his own 'sweet sixteen' year old daughter. The problem, it seems to me, is that muslims in general do not think that participation in their religion is optional. Their idea of freedom of religion is the freedom to force their religion on others. Anyone who does not willingly practice Islam or who practices it and forsakes it deserves death, in their opinion.
