Radical Islamist groups are planting activists posing as ordinary Muslim Americans to ask candidates questions at the presidential debates.
Most recently, the controversial Council on American-Islamic Relations, several of whose leaders have been prosecuted on terror-related charges, sent the executive director of its Chicago chapter to take part in the Democratic presidential debate in Des Moines, Iowa, which was supposed to be an opportunity for "ordinary people" to ply candidates with questions.
At Saturday's debate, aired on C-Span, CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab stood up and asked Sen. John Edwards if he would help Muslims fight "prejudice" and other "abuses" such as hate crimes.
"It seems we're facing a culture of fear-mongering," Rehab complained.
"Senator, in the '60s, Malcolm and Martin gave up their lives fighting for justice for all," he added. "The civil rights movement is not over. It's not done yet. We're still fighting.
"Senator," he continued, "we would like to know if you will fight with us if elected president."
A number of Muslim activists around Rehab erupted into applause and cheers.
"You've got some fans," Edwards remarked, before vowing to end "profiling" of and "spying" on Muslim terrorist suspects. He also promised to "close Guantanamo" and stop the "torture" of terrorist detainees.
Despite Rehab's assertion that Muslims are victims of hate crimes and other abuses on a "regular basis," the FBI last month released 2006 data showing anti-Islamic crimes have fallen 68 percent since 2001, and represent just 11 percent of all religiously motivated attacks. According to a report in Investor's Business Daily, the overwhelming majority of such crimes – 66 percent – target Jews.
Also, at last month's Republican debate in St. Petersburg, Fla., a former CAIR intern was selected by host CNN to challenge GOP presidential hopefuls about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and complain about the anger they've created in the Muslim world.
Wearing a hijab, Yasmin Elhady complained they've created anger in the Muslim world. "My question has to do with the current crisis in Iraq, as well as the U.S. efforts in Afghanistan," she said.
"After living abroad personally in the Middle East for a year, I realized just how much damage the Iraq war and the perception of invasion has done to the image of America," Elhady added. "What would you do as president to repair the image of America in the eyes of the Muslim world?"
CNN, which claimed to pick questioners at random from a pool of "undecided voters," did not cite Elhady's activist background with CAIR. The network simply identified her as "Yasmin from Huntsville, Ala." (She actually lives in Los Angeles, where she attends college at UCLA.)
Read it all.
"Senator," he continued, "we would like to know if you will fight with us if elected president."
Now there is a loaded question. I am absolutely sure Edwards did not know how to answer that.

You expect self-serving, deceptive questions from the likes of CAIR and their ilk, but what is at least as troubling is the field of Democratic candidates for President. None are realistic about the dangers the Islamic theological blueprint poses to American liberties. John Edwards reveals himself time and time again as being doubly ignorant of what we're up against. The guy is clueless through and through respecting Islam's designs on the West. Hell, he doesn't even know we're in a war to the death. He thinks any problems with those "few" Muslims out there who wish us ill can be handled in a court of law. Dumb indeed.
I also have my reservations about the Republican candidates for President where knowledge of Islam is concerned, but they are all (except Ron Paul) far more aware of what needs to be done to keep Islamic radicals at bay. By comparison, the Democrats are babes in the wilderness. Too bad there is no Democratic candidate out there with the realism of an Ed Koch or a Joseph Lieberman. But there is not.
Meanwhile, CAIR continues to use our Constitution and laws to worm its way further into the fabric of American society, with the intention of seeing said society eventually remade by Sharia and other freedom-crushing aspects that can be found aplenty in the world's dreariest and most intolerant religion.

I say let them keep at it. The bolder they get, the more they are exposed. CAIR is now a controversial organization even in the mainstream media. A few years ago, they were simply the "leading Muslim civil rights organization" in the US. Their mask is falling. The more they brazenly push forward, the more people wake up, and this questioning of CAIR is not breaking into the mainstream media. The process is slow. Much of the mainstream media still report on CAIR uncritically, but things are clearly different from even a year ago. The tone and degree of questioning of CAIR, and reporting of its unsavory past and unsavory leadership and unsavory tactics, is coming out.
Let Islamists keep pushing their agenda. They don't know subtlety, and they are too zealous and impatient to be successful as subterfuge. CAIR thinks it is a savvy organization, but it is crude and savage Wahhabism with only a necktie to cover it up.
The only wild card is how entrenched political correctness, and the fear of criticism of any so-called "oppressed" or "aggrieved" group, really is. My feeling is that the public and even a growing portion of the mainstream media is onto CAIR and its ilk, but the politicians still fear action. Democrats are worse than Republicans in this regard, although the Bush administration is as worse as any.
But things will change. Lies repeated often enough can appear to be truth... but not indefinitely. And we already see the Wahhabi/Salafist mask slipping from organizations like CAIR. It is, again, happening slowly, more slowly than one would like, but it is happening.
I have paid zero attention to the Democratic debates and only one Angstrom unit more to the Republican debates. The cadidate who will answer these questions an a manner that shows that he understands the problem doesn't have a cance at getting the nomination - the election, fuggiddaboutit.

Here in the UK, we have a programme (predictably perhaps on the bbc) called "Question Time" where studio audiances are randomly picked by the host to put their questions (and they could range from intelligent to downright silly) to the panel of politicians, journos, captains of industry, trade unionists etc.
And I've always wondered about the so called studio audiance. There is nearly always a woman in a hijab or similar such muslim picked (at "randomly") and invariably their questions are to do with islam and the victimisation of muslims worldwide. Thus giving plenty of opportunity for the dhimmi politicians to spout their platitudes towards islam and for the audiance (again picked at "random") to follow up with some preety vindictive anti-US sentiments.
Knowing bbc and its shenanigans, I wouldn't be at all surprised if something more than random going on!

I have listened to call-in radio programs on public radio that seem to have been dominated by Muslims. I wonder whether such Muslim participation in public debate where possible is part of an organized effort.
Maybe we need to make an effort to present another view. JW could post an article addressing this problem and the need for a counterbalance, and asking for readers to submit questions that should be asked of the presidential candidates. Hopefully, readers in Iowa and New Hampshire and other early states would then go to forums and ask candidates such questions. It might help us figure out who is strong and weak, and it might also force some candidates to think things through a bit.

I agree that Jihadwatch and others do a great job of explaining the other point of view. However, I suspect the people that need the most convincing do not visit these sites. So, what I am suggesting is that perhaps we need to expand the venue of our position challenging the conventional wisdom that Islam is the Religion of Peace by participating more in the public discussion in other forums, including, most importantly, the all-important early stage of the presidential selection process.

Mention that this "fight" for "Muslim rights" -- by which is meant the right, apparently, not to be regarded with heightened vigilance more than others, in the search for terrorists motivated by a desire to further, through violent means rather than through those instruments of Jihad that do not require terrorism or other forms of violence) -- is simply an extension of the fight for "civil rights." This and all media is about controlling the microphone. Our side needs to get out into the audience as plants. If I was controlling the mic I would not let her on. But that is not the point. The point is that the enemy is not stupid and neither should we be. They will and are doing anything to advance their agenda. Our agenda is to outlaw Islam in this country. As I have said before don't let the publics eyes glaze over because of the religion angle (church and state). The enemy is a economic, political, idealogical and religious threat. The reply should have questioned why are they fighting us? When did they start their fight? What are they fighting for? It's not equal civil rights for all.
The reply should have been, "I will not join any fight that seeks to empower one group of people over another. I will not join any fight that justifies the deliberate targeting of unarmed civilians with violence. I will not join any fight for an ideology that considers itself immune from examination."
