MADRID (Reuters) - A group of Islamist extremists in Frankfurt was planning an attack in Germany, according to a would-be suicide bomber captured by police in Spain, Spanish newspaper El Pais reported on Sunday.
The Frankfurt cell was one of several in European cities with orders to attack targets in Spain, France, Portugal, Germany and Britain, according to the would-be attacker turned police informant, El Pais reported.
The report did not make clear whether the German cell was to attack Frankfurt or another city.
Testimony from the same informant, who was captured after he arrived in Barcelona on Jan. 16, led to the arrest of 14 South Asians last Saturday in Barcelona after he told police an Islamist extremist cell planned to attack the city's metro and other targets in Europe, El Pais reported, quoting Spanish police.
The informant told police that leaders of the Barcelona cell told him to travel to Frankfurt to meet up with a group planning an attack, El Pais reported.
"They told him, initially, he was going to travel to Frankfurt," El Pais reported. "The informant thought he would travel to Germany to meet up with the group that was planning an attack there."
The plan changed and another member of the Barcelona cell, Akeel Abassi, was sent to Frankfurt on Jan. 18 with orders to work alone, the informant told police.
Abassi is being hunted by police, along with two other possible suicide bombers, El Pais reported.
Maybe the police are looking in Frankfurt am Main when they should be looking in Frankfurt an der Oder. Or vice-versa.
If you and I can't tell those cities apart, because we link both Frankfurts to our stadium-and-barbecue hot dogs, why should Muslims in Spain be able to tell them apart? Were I in charge of Interpol, I'd want to blanket both cities.

If that is the all-beef frank that has the ad about "We Listen To A Higher Authority" I'm afraid that the "Higher Authority" that the Hebrew National hot-dog people listen to is not, despite all the Muslim blague about the "three Abrahamic faiths having so much in common," quite the same as Allah. No, Christians and Jews and Muslims may all be monotheists, but they do not worship the same god, and the odd man out in this group definitely is made up of the implacable believers in the necessity and right of Islam to dominate, and Muslims to rule, everywhere.
....IN the Frankfurt area, the Rhine-Main airbase would be a prime target as would the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (one of the worlds largest train stations), I would also suspect Frankfurt Hahn Airport or some other target with lots of civilians, perhaps a soccer game or a school....
...the Muslim terrorists have stated they intend to strike fear....and a bomb attack on a major well-known facility with hundreds, perhaps thousands of "soft targets"(unarmed men, women, children?)would certainly do that....
...the world must remain vigilant and prepared to act....AL-Qaeda and other Muslim type organizations have promised death in Europe and elsewhere....no reason to disbelieve......

Some two years past, arrived at Frankfurt Airport and headed for the Goldman Sachs building near the main square where my daughter worked. sitting outside enjoying a Coffee, My daughter appeared and as she sat down we witnessed a man of middle east appearance approach another leaning against a building. suddenly a knife appeared and he fell down bleeding to death on the sidewalk.
We were taken to the police station as witnesses, which to my horror was the old Gestapo building, lined with barred windows at knee level, where i knew, atrocious butchery must have occurred during WW2.
To my surprise we were presented with some ONE thousand Photographs of suspected islamist terrorists to wade through. NOT on computer but in an old card index file, which looked as if it had been used under the Nazis.
Of course it was impossible to identify the killer but i was amazed at the archaic conditions that the Frankfurt police labored under, whilst surrounded by the most modern and super computerised buildings.
So now they rely on the Spanish to uncover their own terrorist plots!
Hi - Iv'e been reading here for quite some time now, and after a first post went through without hitch, here's something a bit more substantial!
Thi is just a little background info, and might help to explain the reason for the backward state of the police which fRIDA was so amazed at:
* in Germany, the police is the responsibility of the single Laender which make up the German federation. Thus the politics of the Laender 'Prime Ministers' very heavily influence what is done - and even more heavily influence the budget of the police.
* Public spending has been cut back and back for years in certain sectors, such as the police, in order to allow more spending on social welfare. A very large group are the immigrants from Turkey and other Arab countries.
Germans are still extremely sensitive to anything which smacks of racism, and bend over backwards so as not to be accused of being like the Nazis. This attitude is of course abused in various ways by certain immigrant groups ...
* Anything to do with WoT is the responsibility of the Federation, not the laender - so resources are now transferred to these federal entities, not leaving much over for the Laender police.
Stabbing etc is still being regarded as a simple police matter - there also exists a sort of general agreement in the MSM not to give the names and nationalities of the culpits so as not to incite racial hatred.
This all has been and is debated quite extensively and fervently in various German forums - and the Prime Minister of the Land (Hessen) to which Frankfurt belongs, has just lost his state elections - because he was perceived to be too anti-immigrant, and also because it was his administration which cut e.g. the police and justice budgets to the bone - some thought that his hard stance against immigrants now smacked of hypocrisy and electioneering.
I hope this puts things a bit into perspective. Don't forget that in Germnay as in GB the people are far in advance in regard to these questions than the politicians and what can be read in the
MSM.
