The soldiers killed Obeidi and arrested another militant after the gun battle in the northern West Bank, the IDF said.
Obeidi led the military wing of the extremist Islamic Jihad in the West Bank....

Israel is in a awful bind. Machiavelli said, do evil all at once, and do good in dribs and drabs over a long period of time. People forget the evil, even respect you for it if not fear you, and remember the good. The opposite, doing evil in small amounts over a long period, can never be erased by a sweeping gesture of goodwill. Witness the hopeless failure of Israel's peace offers and concessions, both to the Palestinians and in world opinion. She has gained no sympathy for her willingness to compromise, only hatred for her self-defense.
Israel is twisted into having to do evil all the time, at least in the eyes of the world. I am not saying defending oneself is evil, but the world sees things on television, in the media, and it has a cumulative effect that Israel is on a never ending killing spree. The Palestinians have exploited this perception. All it takes is the willingness to lose a few people now and then, something they have inculcated into their children.
Israel is the most hated nation it the world, it seems, and it is not anti-semitism, but rather the result of Palestinian strategy. I have to admire them in their ruthless brilliance, which itself stems from Islam - Muhammad was the Machiavelli of his time. Terrorism works.
Nah, not evil. Israel should celebrate these events as acts of love. "The IDF is happy to announce that we have helped another of our Muslim brothers to Paradise." They're not killings but acts of brotherhood and kindness. And yes, it would be wonderful if they were sent in much larger numbers. Feel the love.

Israel's problem is that by acceding to some of the Palestinian demands, it has accorded them legitimacy. Once Yasser Arafat was allowed to be treated as the legitimate leader of the Palestinian people and as a de facto head of state, it was all over for Israel.

I believe the evil is when the media distorts to everyone what is going on whether it is due to laziness, fear or just an agenda that they have to make sure that one side looks bad. The anti-semitism at play is what I am talking about. Which is strange considering that the left is comprised of so many Jews.
The muslims are doing what they do to expand and grow. It is like any organism, or virus. It is us and our media, our politicans, that are making a decision to accept this in light of knowing that their taking the side of the virus is not the correct, or right, thing to do.
The evil is not Israel defending themselves. Even because they do indeed work on target bombings and try not to bomb what they think are innocents. (I don't believe that many of those muslim women and children of certain ages are that innocent since the children are being trained as jihadists and the women openly dance and ulalate over Israeli deaths and gather up their guts if disembowled, etc.)
I know that people don't like one saying that the evil is islam, the koran and their prophet. But, that is what I believe so I wrote it. You all can believe what you want.
Even while we know that the Jews, Christians, and muslims all lived relatively peaceful before the 1920s and the rise of the anti-semitism that we know now pretend that it didn't happen - it would have only taken a different sort of circumstances to bring about what we have now. When you have a 'holy' book, the koran, that teaches torture, killing, etc are ok if done to a kufir all it takes is a spark and the 1400 years of violence continues again.
The change has to come within the muslim world and it is not even started. One or two people or small groups are not a change that is required. The masses have to force a change and right now they are more concerned with their image than changing islam. We cannot make the change - they have to.

I am speaking figuratively. I know it is not immoral to defend oneself. My mind is quite right. I am talking about the perception of Israel around the world, and how the Palestinian leadership has successfully manipulated it. The reason this is effective is not a mystery, and prattling about morality, the foolishness of the media, etc, is a waste of time that will yield no results, even though I sympathize and agree with those who do so. The fundamentals of the dynamic we are seeing played out were completely understood in the 1400s. No one should be mystified by what is going on vis a vis Israel's image in the world, the effectiveness of the Palestinian strategy or the inversion of Israel from an admired upstart to a hated pariah. Of course, a better solution I've not got. But let's work with some sound fundamentals. Kill people quickly, be sweet slowly over time and you will be loved. Do the reverse and you will be hated.
