Olmert Gov't Prevents Capture of Hikers' Killers

Of course. Nothing must be allowed to stand in the way of the "peace process"!

(IsraelNN.com) Israel has acceded to a Palestinian Authority request not to demand the murderers of hikers David Rubin and Achikam Amichai, according to a Channel 2 report.

Rubin and Amichai were murdered last month while hiking in the Telem Stream region near Hevron. They were ambushed by four terrorists, but managed to return fire and kill two of them.

The two surviving murderers are Ali a-Hamid Rajeb Dandis, a clerk at Hevron’s Islamic Court and member of Fatah’s intelligence wing, and Amr Bader a-Halim Taha, a resident of the Abu-Sneineh hills opposite Hevron’s Jewish community and member of the Fatah-controlled PA security forces. The two took refuge shortly after the murders among their fellow PA security men in an apparently successful attempt to avoid arrest by the IDF.

Contrary to initial reports, the PA did not even inform Israel that the two had taken refuge at a PA facility until after the Shabak (General Security Service) filed a request that the weapons of Rubin, Amichai and their killers be handed over. At that point, assuming that Israel knew the whereabouts of the murderers anyway, the PA told the Shabak that it had the men in custody.

Now, according to the Channel 2 television expose, the Olmert government has agreed to let the murderers remain in PA custody, effectively confined to their place of employment. The IDF has operation plans ready and was poised to intercept the terrorists but the Olmert government refused to grant authorization. The terrorists are now being transferred to Jericho.

Likud Chairman Binyamin Netanyahu slammed the decision, saying “the humiliating agreement of the Olmert-Barak government to give up on arresting the PA heads that murdered Achikam Amichai and David Rubin is yet another testimony to the weakness and loss of national honor on the part of this government. An immediate demand that the murderers be handed over must be made.”

Nachi Ayal, who directs the Land of Israel Legal Forum, said the decision constitutes an open invitation to terrorists to attack any citizen of Israel, since in exchange they will be presented with a vacation sponsored by the Palestinian Authority. “For the first time, Israel is not demanding the custody of the murderers of Israelis. One has to believe that at some point Israelis tire of the cat and mouse and lies of the PA and also of the failed peace process and eject the Sharonists from power. Their rule has brought nothing but heartache and death. The sooner they are gone the better for everyone in region.

Again I ask, why is he still in power?

Well, so much for "Never again!"

This sort of thing is inevitable, given the way the Olmert administration operates. "Peace" at any price is its slogan.

Any government that cannot or will not defend its people needs to be abolished by any means necessary.

...Israel is now designating the trail as "The scenic ambush trail", the government officials now email various terrorist organizations of the tour times and the number of people entering the trail....

Perhaps this will be the political end of Olmert. Israel must have some limit; and a country that has, in the past, traded so many terrorists for so few citizens (or dead bodies) must somewhere have a sense that the two murdered people have value.

The Olmert story has been crazy for some time, surely since the last war in Lebanon. The country either responds to his outrages or ... well, why not just shut the lights?

A lack of love from Washington and so on has its effects, no doubt. But so does demoralization from within.

In the past enemies of the Jewish state knew what to expect - promised retribution might not be immediate, but it was inevitable. With Olmert's Israel-Lite they are getting mixed messages which will only serve to embolden them.
The only message he should send reads "This side toward enemy."

Also, Olmert agrees to Bush 'request' not to kill any Gaza civilians even as longer range rockets are being launched from densely populated areas in Gaza the last few days. That scraping sound you hear is the bottom of the barrel of the ludicruous 'peace process'.

I think I voted for him for dhimmi of the year too.

But, I thought I heard where Israel has been striking the Pals because they are sick of the bombs being lobbed into Israel. (finally!) I read yesterday where they got a couple of nasty jihdists too. Then I read this today. It is hard to make sense out of what is going on - it is like you hear pro and con constantly. (that peace process is a joke though - a complete waste of time with people whose charter is to wipe Israel off the map)

There was a time the Jews overcame their inherent weakness and fought bravely. In recent times, the 1967 victory sharply diminished anti-Semitism and won them respect, but the protracted scuffle with the insignificant Palestinians and Lebanese has caused them to loose all respect

Long periods of peace are not easy to come by. The horrible details are well known. In order to be safe from your enemy, kill him first. If someone wants to kill you, kill him first. Don’t investigate his mentality. Don’t break your head trying to invent the terms acceptable to him. There are none especially if your enemy is motivated by demonic diety. Conflicts with moslems are not business disputes, and cannot be arbitrated.It is all-or-nothing.

Jews can safely exist in the state of Israel. Safely to a degree. Safe for some time. To an unknown degree. For unknown time.

The safety won’t come through conferences, peace settlements, or two-state solutions. If Jews want a state like other nations, then they should build a state like other nations did. By cleansing the desired land of their enemies.

A government which is unable or unwilling to protect its citizens has no right to exist. The extent to which Israel is a "demoracy" is reflected in Olmert's current popular support, or rather lack thereof.

There is no reason to worship Bibi Netanyahu as the cure for Israel's ills --- he was ready to give up Hebron as part of the Wye accords. Any secular or [hypocritical] religious Israeli leader who fears man more than he fears God is destined to grovel at the feet of his American master, and his American master, in turn, will continue to grovel at the feet of his Saudi former puppet and now master. Israel's weakness is symptomatic of the "Jewish" State's leadership, liberal educational system and liberal media, conducting a decades-long war (predating the Jewish State's founding) against its Jewish character, attempting to transform it into a secular "Israeli" State divorced of anything Jewish.

This is is not unlike what has been going on in Europe and the U.S., as evidenced by their respective MSMs' ongoing war against Christianity and conservative values.

Olmert did do one good thing that I hope Israelis never forget. At Annapolis, he said the Palestinians must accept Israel as a Jewish state if they want a peace agreement. There was widespread indignation and rejectionism from Palestinians of all stripes. This should be the precondition for all future negotiations. Make them swallow a poison pill that the rest of the world agrees with, or will find reasonable. Israel needs a leg to stand on, and survival is it. Morality is not.

olmert seems to be trying to balance world opinion against bush's okay to strike but not hurt anyone civilian, well those rockets gaza send over are not going to pick out idf only, so this is stupid.

I think often of fellow free-market advocates who project onto all conflicts the idea that such can be "worked out" with words. The idea that ideas can be in conflict, with threat to life itself, somehow isn't grasped. The reason why the machinery-of-state even exists seems not to have been though through.

I fear we will all go the way of Isreal (as outlined in Caroline Glick's excellent article, posted above by Sneakzionistcrusader), where those driving the machinery of state become simply artibters of which sacrifices will be made, and who will do the accomodating.
