Pakistani Army abandons second fort, fearing jihadist takeover

That'll show 'em. An update on this story. "Army 'flees second Pakistan fort'," from the BBC:

Pakistani troops have abandoned a fort in a remote tribal area, a day after another was overrun by pro-Taleban militants, officials and witnesses say.
They say that paramilitary personnel at Sipla Toi military post in South Waziristan left their positions fearing an attack by the militants.
But an army spokesman told the BBC he had received no such reports.
On Wednesday, the army said hundreds of militants temporarily seized a fort in the Sararogha area of South Waziristan.
'Open challenge'
Locals told the BBC that 30-40 troops had been stationed at Sipla Toi, some 90km (55 miles) from the town of Dera Ismail Khan. The outpost is nearly as big as the one at Sararogha.
"According to our reports, the troops abandoned the fort on their own. Some left last night, others went away this morning.
"There was no attack from the Taleban," a South Waziristan tribal administration official based in the town of Tank told the BBC.
A resident of the area said that the retreating troops had not left any weapons or ammunition behind.
A Taleban spokesman, Maulvi Umar, told the BBC Urdu service that militants had captured the Sipla Toi fort. But there was no independent confirmation of his claims.
South Waziristan is a known stronghold of pro-Taleban and al-Qaeda militants.
The region has been at the centre of fighting between the army and militants in recent months.
Correspondents say the militants are now openly challenging the army in the area bordering Afghanistan.

While they are all in one spot. A few well placed Jdams would fix the problem.
Of course that will never happen.

...it is easy to do this when your opponent refuses to fight....

....what are you going to do when they reach your neighborhood..

...Ban Muslim Immigration...

Fearing, or facilitating?

i VOTE facilitating...

"But an army spokesman told the BBC he had received no such reports."

...Probably because the soldiers left the radio behind along with their rifles...

Pakistian was founded on the principle of Islamic supremacy. The Army is conflicted on fighting those who want a pure Islamic world. The Army wants it too.

"The outpost is nearly as big as the one at Sararogha."

...and just as deserted....

Aunt Bea, good idea!

The opportunity afforded by the fort’s abandonment’s should be used to utmost advantage. Another alternative is to suppress any anti-aircraft defenses the terrorists may have then send in an AC-130 gunship (or similar type Pakistani platform, assuming they have any) to pulverize the forts. How often does the opportunity arise to gather and kill so many in one small place?

These Pak soldiers need to watch Beau Geste as a training film. Don't they know that the best way to save the fort is to give an impression of continuing strength by propping up the dead soldiers on the rampart breaks? Then, they need a real leader, like Sgt Markoff, expelled from the Siberian army for cruelty, to whip them into line.
But no, weak and wimpy, another fort falls to the advancing hordes. No wonder we're losing.

Looks like the Paki's have been schooled in pre-emptive surrender under President Bush.

If only we had given money and weapons to our good friends and allies, the Pakistanis, they could have defended this fort.

Oh, that's right. We did.

Re: Pakistani Army abandons second fort, fearing jihadist takeover

Pakistan is the sad result of the Muslim (Muslims are apes and pigs) invasions that destroyed the indigenous Hindu culture of greater India (which includes Pakistan and Bangladesh). It will end in a nuclear tragedy there. It's only a matter of time.

Henceforth, on this site, whenever I refer to Muslims or Islam, I will note that Islam is the religion of "apes and pigs" and Muslims are "apes and pigs". They like that description. Henceforth, in EVERY reference to Muslims or Islam, they will be referred to as "apes and pigs" (usually this will be done in parenthesis). Muslims should have no objection to that.

Frank,

You are insulting apes and pigs.

So what happened to the hundreds of millions of dollars worth of arms and ammunition given away free of charge by the US to fight these "militants"?

Sorry forgot, they are to be used against the unclean pagan idol worshippers on the East of the border.

Al Bush should sleep well today! None of the expensive armory it seems has been wasted!

typical!

Maybe their just consolidating the forces for a big push in the spring, lets see what mushi does now, his days are on the calendar!!!!

The natives are restless in 'restive' Pakistan. First capture the rural areas, then move into the cities.
Were is Naseem with her on site reporting and commentary?

I am afraid that the "wooden hand" of Captain D'Anjou is rolling over in the glass display case..mon dieu!

I thought the accepted practice in that region was just to switch sides depending on who had the upper hand.

Swami,

Was just thinking the same thing...where oh where is Naseem with his/her deep insights to the RoP?

AWOL, with the rest of the Pakistani Army?

so what will be the bush solution? maybe increase the jiyza by billions more so that the islamic terrorist supporting pak army will feel more compelled to fight their brother in jihad? no, i am afraid not most of this militery aid will be used to increase weaponery against india and for increased terrorism in kashmir.

but the pakistani do not beleive in terrorism here is why

americans always bet on the wrong horse. they wanted to control the chinese, but killed the vietnemese who are the traditional enemies of china. najibullah is an angel compared with the talibans, and he tried to bring some modern ideas, even if of the soviet variety, to afghanistan. and the americans encouraged osama bin laden against him. india has been always a democratic, open society, but the americans always supported pakistan against india. saddam hussein was a dictator, tyrant, but he is not a jihadist. still the americans toppled him and made iraq a recruiting ground for the iranians. shia iran is certainly better than the saudis who enjoy american protection but spend huge money for preaching against all that america cherishes: liberty, freedom of religion, equality of gender, democracy, etc. still the americans rant against iran but not the sauds.
is it not time for the americans to reflect over their past policies?

We need to send more comfortable vehicles in the next arms shipment I have been told these soldiers were very unhappy with the ride they got in the armored humvee, how bout some Escalades?
