JERUSALEM — Two rockets fired from Lebanon struck northern Israel before dawn Tuesday, the military said, causing no injuries but expanding the violence that has erupted on Israel's borders ahead of U.S. President George W. Bush's visit to the region.One of the rockets landed on a road, and the other on the porch of a home in the town of Shlomi.
It was the second rocket attack on Israel from Lebanon since Israel's summer 2006 war with Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas. In June, two rockets fired by a previously unknown group, the Jihadi Badr Brigades — Lebanon Branch, fell in Israel, causing minor damage but no injuries.
Israeli military officials said it appeared the same group was responsible for Tuesday's attack, although there was no claim of responsibility.
A senior military officer in Beirut told The Associated Press that the Israeli report was "baseless and completely fabricated." He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the incident with the media.
Yasmina Bouziane, a spokeswoman for U.N. peacekeepers in Lebanon, said the force had a team on the ground looking into the report. "In the meantime, we can't confirm or deny" the Israeli claims, she said.
A resident of Shlomi, Simona Salamon, said a rocket hit her porch in the middle of the night.
"It was such a big noise and my ears were ringing," Salamon told Army Radio. "It made a hole in the wall."

Sibel Edmonds, a 37-year-old former Turkish language translator for the FBI, listened into hundreds of sensitive intercepted conversations while based at the agency’s Washington field office.
She approached The Sunday Times last month after reading about an Al-Qaeda terrorist who had revealed his role in training some of the 9/11 hijackers while he was in Turkey.
Edmonds described how foreign intelligence agents had enlisted the support of US officials to acquire a network of moles in sensitive military and nuclear institutions.
Among the hours of covert tape recordings, she says she heard evidence that one well-known senior official in the US State Department was being paid by Turkish agents in Washington who were selling the information on to black market buyers, including Pakistan.
The name of the official – who has held a series of top government posts – is known to The Sunday Times. He strongly denies the claims.
However, Edmonds said: “He was aiding foreign operatives against US interests by passing them highly classified information, not only from the State Department but also from the Pentagon, in exchange for money, position and political objectives.”
She claims that the FBI was also gathering evidence against senior Pentagon officials – including household names – who were aiding foreign agents.
“If you made public all the information that the FBI have on this case, you will see very high-level people going through criminal trials,” she said.
Her story shows just how much the West was infiltrated by foreign states seeking nuclear secrets. It illustrates how western government officials turned a blind eye to, or were even helping, countries such as Pakistan acquire bomb technology.
The wider nuclear network has been monitored for many years by a joint Anglo-American intelligence effort. But rather than shut it down, investigations by law enforcement bodies such as the FBI and Britain’s Revenue & Customs have been aborted to preserve diplomatic relations.

I can't remember where I read it now, but within the last week (I think it was Jpost), a writer wrote an article about how Olmerts not getting enough credit, saying how Olmert led Israel to victory because there hasn't been one rocket fired from Lebanon since that summers war with Hezballah.
Well, I wonder if I'll see that same writer write another piece admitting he spoke way too soon, and that pretty much everything Olmert did in that war was negligent to the point of criminal.
Okay I don't wonder, I know he won't.
Good thing Bush was not in the area. I would hate to see how he would apologize for this little incident on the roadmap to eternal peace. Or another one of his "hi-jacked religion of peace" speeches.

What if a "palestinian" state is not all that bad of an idea? I mean, let's say hell freezes over and the muslims behave long enough for the state to happen. Unlikely, but I am dealing in a hypothetical. What would one of the first things the "palestinians" will do? After electing Hamas and Fatah into the government for their "state," would not rockets resume flight into Israel? Doesn't that constitute state on state aggression giving Israel just cause to roll over the "palestinian" state? Would it not also give reason to forever end all debate on the existence of a "palestinian" state, at least in the West? Don't care what the dhimmis in the UN would say, or the muslim states. The whole argument in the West is that the "palestinians" are oppressed by the Israelis. Why the feeling of oppression if you have their own state. I realize that some of the hardcore dhimmis in the West won't change their tune, but to the masses, would it not show once and for all the true nature of the problem?
I know it's all hypothetical. But I think it raises some interesting ideas and questions.
Kevin, I have heard this hypothetical you espouse since before the Oslo Accords in the early nineteen nineties.
If we just give the Palestinians land, some autonomy, self-government, independence, etc., should they then commit acts of violence, the world would understand when Israel has to crush the rebellion and the violence.
It does not work that way. Israel will always be blamed by the nations even when she defends herself, with enormous US pressure for restraint.
Best to not compromise with murderers. Otherwise you get more murder.

President Bush let Israel Bomb what ever it wanted to in 2006. The Europeans were the ones with their underwear in a knot demanding an end. Olmert could have sent what ever forces he wished into Lebanon during that time under US cover.
I view the President's visit as a last ditch effort for peace. Sure, it all appears he is willing to sell the farm to get it to. What seems to be overlooked in the process is the MSM recognizing the signs of the Muslims unwillingness to have it. Or want it.
The President will be putting his life on the line with this trip seeking peace. It is like daring them to do him harm. If the president cannot achieve Peace in 08, one that is ultimately acceptable to all party's concerned, then what is the alternative??? in 08.
The President needs to show the World it is Islam who washes their hands of peace.
