This sense of entitlement that leads to intimidation is getting really boring. And ever notice how it's always one non-Muslim guy harassing and assaulting a bunch of Muslim guys? And why the hell are they ALWAYS cabdrivers?

Muslim men are the biggest cowards and wimps. They should shoot themselves through the head for shame, not their darling daughters, and put the rest of us out of our misery.

.....the Muslim Cab Drives have shown the intolerant ways of their religion, they have shown total disrespect for their employer and the employers property and to other employees, the Muslims have subjugated the other employees into a second class status, in effect turning them into unwilling dhimmis....the Muslims have simply moved in and taken over....

....In no way should a business or a private property be converted into a site for religious ceremonies or prayer that takes away the rights of the business, the business owner, the other employees or the citizens of the host country....

We do have individual freedom of worship in this country. It's when you think you can perform corporate worship wherever you want and gain special concessions and exclusions through intimidation and veiled (and nonveiled) threats of violence that you keep hitting the wall, because it then infringes on the rights of others to ... individual worship. So buy the hand towel sized prayer rug, keep your up reaching ass small and in a corner so no one trips over it, be quiet so you don't disturb anybody else, and you can pray as much as you want here, as long as you can find a job with an employer that will accommodate you.

Better yet, develop a compact sized, non corporate form of daily worship, that doesn't include external gimmicks and pomp, like perhaps merely sitting at your desk and praying silently.
Because from outward appearance, it seems all you are doing now is putting on a show for other men, and God is not impressed by that.

The only way to counteract this is to sue those companies/organizations that give preferential treatment to muslims.

First thing is to vacate the squatters and remove all religious materials permanently. If the muhammedan cab drivers need a room for prayers, they each have a vehicle they can drive to the local mosque (they are not accepting fares anyway) or they should apply through normal channels to rent a room and pay for it themselves. This is not a taxpayer obligation and under no circumstances should the Airport assume any responsiblity for such.

I can understand your concerns a little bit and I agree with justamumof4 that they should possibly rent a room or go to a mosque.

However out of sensitivity and the fact that muslim cabbies are generally not all that well to do...(and savings is harder as they have more than average childrens to feed) perhaps the airport ought to donate at least 50% of the monies required for renting or help in aquiring local land for the building of a local mosque.

Peoples.... I know that Salt Lake City is a religious christian area and there is bound to be a little friction...basically what you are going through is perhaps what the peoples of Ayodhiya (India) went through in the 15th centuary when the holy Barbari mosque was built (recently so cruelly demolished by BJP Hindoo fundamentalists...and killing 200 muslims to boot).

At that time the muslims may have simply taken what they needed (only Allah SWT T'allah knows the truth)....but now you have a golden chance to ensure fairness.

Get involved, stand for freedom in the praise of Alllah SWT for no amount of prayer to him is enough...pressure the airport to do the right thing.

Now let's see. One taxi-driver, Mr. Brueningsen, has been prevented from pursuing his livelihood or at least had that pursuit narrowly curtailed, for he "isn't allowed to work on airport property."

He is the one who complained about the turning of what was always the place where taxi-drivers could relax, sit, talk, read, have a snack, into a mosque, clearly made unwelcomg to, off-limits to, the non-Muslim cabdrivers.

Yet he alone has been punished. Why? Let's see if we can figure out if, indeed, Mr. Brueningsen is the kind of man who would simply swagger about, take on dozens of Muslim cabdrivers, and even give one of them, for no reason at all, the fuck-you sign with his middle finger, and lie.

Here is what Mr. Bueningsen says:

Shuttle driver Jeff Brueningsen took photos inside the building he and other drivers share at the airport. "It was definitely an Islamic center." He said it didn't feel right, so he filed a complaint with the FAA against the airport.

"In proper, polite company you never bring up politics or religion. And they introduced both instantly into what's supposed to be a professional, secular transportation-aviation facility," Brueningsen said.

In the complaint he details claims that he was harassed by a group of Muslim drivers who he says have threatened to kill him. It came to a head earlier this month when Brueningsen says Mohammed Alahmed and other drivers attacked him.

"They were going like this, using their fingers, saying, ‘You F-ing Jew, you don't want us to pray here,'" Brueningsen says."

And here is what a Muslim cabdriver insists:

"Alahmed says it was the other way around, that Brueningsen tried to stop him from praying. "He say the F word against me, and I didn't do anything. And he grabbed me from my shirt and hit me with his hand," Alahmed said."

Now tell me. What is more verisimilar? What do we know, from a thousand other cases, of how Muslims have behaved when their turninng of public spaces open-to-all into private spaces, open to Musloms alone (and this includes those "places of silent worship" offered to all faiths in airports all over the world -- I have seen with my own eyes what happens to them in, for example, Italy, and no doubt others have their own horror stories to tell)? And why would a lone American driver go up to Muslims and make the fuck-you sign, and tell them to cut it out?

Does Mr. Bueningsen strike you as that type? Let's go over, once again, his statement to see if it tells us anything:

Does someone who talks like that strike you as the aggressor and the liar in this case? Or don't you think that such words, used in such a fashion, clearly tell us a different story, and it is not Mr. Brueningsen who should now have been "banned" from the airport (alone, of all the drivers), but rather the Muslims who have aggressively seized the quarters open to all the taxi-drivers (and of course the other non-Muslim taxi-drivers are now doubly scared -- they are scared of the "authorities" who banned Mr. Brueningsen, which makes them think that the fix is in, and they are scared -- physically scared --of the Muslim cabdrivers, should they themselves speak out, or even testify truthfully about what has gone on at the airport). This is a case that now requires a full investigation, and an investigation of those who thought it proper to ban Mr. Brueningsen.

This should not be dropped. An injustice has been done to Mr. Brueningsen, and if not reversed, it will be done, is right now being done, to other potential Brueningsens. And step by step, the bullying and the appropriation of space and power, here just about cabdrivers - but are not cabdrivers entitled to their own down-time, and a place to relax, and eat food brought from home rather than having to spend money at an airport cafe, without being fearful of aggressive Muslims behaving in such a way as to make their lives more "unpleasant, expensive, and physically dangerous," than they would otherwise be?

It would be great to celebrate our differences once the Islamic infestation is eliminated. Then we can examine it like we do with smallpox, as a curiosity. Or is that too harsh? I don't want to seem harsh.

At least two posters have quoted this, and on the assumption that Yuriy Artuyunyan is a Muslim cabdriver, have been dismissive. They are likely to be wrong. He is much more likely to be one of the non-Muslim cabdrivers who is suffering because of the behavior of the Muslim cabdriver, behavior that has now lead to the closing of the break room.

"Artuyunyan" is an Armenian name; "Yuriy" a Russian one. Variants include Harutunian, the russified "Aroutunov" (several decades ago a lively teacher of Russian at Harvard was called Bayara Aroutunova). For more on this, you can contact Professor James Russell, who will tell you everything you need to know about Armenian, and russified Armenian, names.

In Iran, the treatment of Armenians has been mixed. On the one hand, they were treated ruthlessly at times. Shah Abbas II, for example, forced both the Jews and the Armenians of Tabriz to convert to Islam overnight. On the other hand, more recently, Armenians were invited to establish the city of New Urfa (it still exists), in order to help build up the Persian economy (the same reason that led Trujillo, in the
Dominican Republic, to offer refuges to 30,000 German Jews fleeing the Nazis -- the Dominican Republic was the only place that opened its doors in such a fashion), where they still live today.

In Ms. Nafisi's "Reading 'Lolita' in Teheran" she mentions entering an Armenian restaurant in that city, ignoring the sign in the window that identifies the place as being owned by a "najis" (unclean) Christian. With all the security cameras in airports today, I'm suprised that the event between Mr. Brueningsen and the Muslim cab driver hasn't been caught on tape. If it has, I can hear the Islamic spin now; "Who you gonna believe, me? Or your lying kuffar eyes?"

Yes Hugh, I thought the same thing. And it is wrong that the average Joe-Blow American taxi driver has to be harassed and subjected to intimidation by a bunch of whining, sniveling, but possibly knife carrying Muslims when he's just trying to catch a break for a few minutes. First, Nobody here knew until you wrote it that you lost your husband.

Second, inasmuch as we know you're permitted to lie to an infidel, we have no reason to believe you even if you are telling the truth.

I think Mr. Artuyunyan is not a muslim. He must be one of the infidel cab drivers who got ousted from the building after the muslims seized it for their own private use. I think chess is forbidden in islam; backgammon is definitely haram. Chess falls under the rubric of "pleasure" and other than sex (for muslim males), pleasure is not allowed in islam because it interferes with praying and devotion to allah.

I find it hard to visualize muslim cabdrivers engaged in any type of intellectual activity, including games that require a high level of concentration. All such frivilous endeavors are either forbidden or discouraged in islam because they are considered a waste of time or in some cases, blatantly evil, like gambling. If muslims were to become fascinated with chess strategy, they would lose track of time and neglect their obligations to allah. Or, God forbid, they might even learn how to independently think.
