Because in Saudi Arabia, you must respect Islamic culture. Very well -- and then in France, must Muslims respect French culture and mores? Why, by no means! In France, non-Muslims must respect Islamic culture! Get the picture?
From AP (thanks to all who sent this in):
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — A senior Saudi official urged French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Monday to respect Saudi Arabia's conservative Islamic culture by visiting the country without his girlfriend, former supermodel Carla Bruni.Sarkozy, who divorced his wife Cecilia in October, has flaunted his relationship with Bruni on recent holidays in Egypt and Jordan, drawing criticism that he is being too loose with the presidential image.
The Saudi diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, said Sarkozy should leave Bruni behind for "religious reasons" when he visits the kingdom on Sunday.
Under the strict interpretation of Islamic law enforced in Saudi Arabia, unmarried or unrelated couples are not permitted to be alone together. Westerners are expected to abide by the rules in public, and many hotels will not check unmarried Western couples into a single room.
...."Because in Saudi Arabia, you must respect Islamic culture..."
....show your respect by going to a border crossing checkpoint...stop the first car with people listening to music...drag them out of the car and beat them severly....and if you find a bible...shoot em...show your respect for Islamic culture...
Sowdi’s to Sarko: “Don’t bring your Whore…”
Koran 8:37
In order that Allah may seperate the impure from the pure, Put All the impure ones (Non-Muslim), one on top of the another in a Heap and cast them into Hell. They will be the ones to have lost
Because infidel women are all whores for the sons of Allah. And anyhow, they are not married, that proves it….NOT!

...unless it is a couple of men.....
Will a christian or secular marriage do?
...can Sarkozy simply call his ex-wife a female slave...??....
Wouldn't it be wonderful if Sarkozy's girlfriend did come to the Saudi airport, in a tight, short mini-skirt, low cut blouse and bright red, 4-inch heels? With the cameras rolling, create an incident and offend some pious Saudis. When the incident is shown back home, on the evening newscast, blend Sarkozy's girlfriend's photo with photos and short stories of young Muslim girls in France who have been murdered in Muslim honor killings, despite their burqas.
If Sarkozy had guts he would respond by saying, Well then, I'm not coming. You visit me, or we don't talk.
Or by making it clear that the next time some Saudi princeling wants to disport himself in Paris, said princeling will be given exactly one visa for his 'wife' or concubine and no larger entourage will be permitted.
Surely the French secret service must have live film footage, or at least audio recordings, of what Saudi princelings get up to in the highest quality Parisian whorehouses, and what they do with - and to - the most expensive call girls, or boys, in their luxury hotel rooms. Maybe some of those girls and boys - the ones that manage to escape with their sanity - can be protected, and encouraged to 'leak' their stories.
Plaster it from one end of the world's gutter presses to the other, so that everyone knows exactly what these disgusting holier-than-thou hypocrites get up to.
Not to mention what they doubtless do to helpless, nameless slaves - some of them mere children - behind the high walls of their palaces.
It wouldn't hurt, either, to tell a few of the choicer stories from Richard Burton's footnotes to his epic Arabian Nights translation; and some of the stories from the Ottoman Empire, like the Sultan who had his entire harem tied up in muslin sacks and tossed into the Bosphorus to drown (he makes Henry VIII look positively innocent by comparison). I'm sure there would be plenty more material, from Muslim and non-Muslim sources.
I hope for the sake of France, and for the sake of Carla Bruni, that Sarkozy tells the Saudis to shove their "islamic culture"(!) where the sun don't shine.
France, the beacon of liberty and Saudi Arabia, the land of barbarity have nothing in common.Sarkozy should not visit the land of barbarity without his girlfriend which will malign the image of France that their president is an appeaser of the rulers of the most primitive and barbaric muslim country.
B.T.W what is an islamic culture.I don't think there can be any culture associated with Islam.

People, unfortunately the economic reality is that Western Europe, including France, relies HEAVILY on oil from the ME, esp. Saudi Arabia. Without that oil, Western Europe would virtually shut down. There would be no plastics or pharmaceuticals, made from oil. People can't live without plastics or pharmaceuticals, not anymore at least. So, Sarkozy *will* be kowtowing to the Saudi official, and Bruni will stay put.
Watch, you'll see. Hey - if I'm wrong I'd be thrilled. But, I don't think so.
Carla Bruni is more important then the Arabians..
:)
I remember that a sports car manufacturer made an auto with 3 seats in it. Critics wondered who would buy a car for only 3 passengers.
The French, of course. One seat for the man, one seat for his wife and one seat for his mistress.
Nevertheless - French culture compared to Saudi culture is like comparing an elephant to a flea. Remember, the Saudi's have executioners on the government payroll.

But the old Saudi King braught all his wives to europe a couple of weeks ago, didn't he?
Hmmm...What to do...What to do...? A beautiful super model on one hand. An old, ugly, perverted shiek in the other....
(push on shiek!) lol
Also, no computers, TV's, radios, FOOD because herbisides and fertilizers require oil in their manufacture. Glues, paints, dyes - all made from oil.
So you see, Sarkozy will be kowtowing to the Saudi official.
Couldnt he just claim her as a concubine or something?
Well maybe he should wait to make that visit after February 9th.

We hear ys darcy. But still it would be sweet to see Bruni decked out in the West's finest bar wear, stepping out into the kingdom of hell, er Saudi Arabia. Or Sarkozy telling the kingdom to shove their seed soaked robes where the sun don't shine. Damn reality.lol
In Western Europe and North America, our governments and people should help visiting Muslim dignitaries -- especially members of the Saudi ruling family, their courtiers and fixers - from being tempted to behave in an un-Islammic fashion. We are obligated, as good hosts, to keep the whisperings of Shaytan from their ears. So let us monitor their movements, and make sure that none of them behave in as un-Islamic a fashion as Sarkozy apparently would, were he permitted, with Bruni in Saudi Arabia.
Those non-stop callgirls visiting Arab suites in fancy hotels? Those orgies that Arab men in the West find so appealing? No, let's put a stop to it. Let's make sure they behave themselves, and that the temptations of the West are not used to undermine their Islamically-correct behavior.
Or is their behavior, with those girls, boys, what have you, islamically correct? And if it is, what's the harm in Sarkozy sharing a room with his girlfriend?
The Higher Islamic Morality needs to be explained. Some of us are confused.
Now about those pictures that the C.I.A. is going to be putting up on the Internet, showing members of the Saudi Royal Family in such unseeemly activities as....(well, fifty billion dollars, as payment for the naval squadrons that protect the oil shipments through the Gulf, might just keep us from doing so....)
I just had a thought. Here's a bumpersticker that some humorful and intrepid employee at Boeing might affix to the sides of the next dozen custom-fitted 747s ordered by the Al-Saud:
"We're Spending Our Nation's Inheritance"
Do you think it will fly?
This is the first Islamic lesson for the new French President. Will he take the dhimmi bait?
Help Expose Islam by sharing the short recording at (360) 326-6730.
Now that is funny Hugh.lmao
Next time Saudi princelings visit Paris for R&R, Sarko should have them followed about by French tv to film them drinking, doping and whoring. Tit for tat.
...lets film all the Islamic dignitaries activities and send the film to the ayatollah...
I don't see why this should bother us. Sarkozy didn't bring his concubine with him to Rome when he went to meet the Pope for very similar reasons.
Quite frankly, I wish WE in the west enforced this kind of honor and morality on our public figures.
To do so we would no means have to revert to sharia law. Simply hold immoral sexual behavior in ill repute.
"Oh, God! Can we dial down the boobies? We need to cover up these situations!"

Yea, what's the 'haram' in that?

Yeah, Kevin, I hear you. But, realistically speaking, due to the oil thingy, it ain't gonna happen.
If it does, I'll be just as thrilled as you.
But, just being a realist. Sorry. Know it's a drag.
an unrelated Saudi and a sheep in the same room?
Sorry to spoil the party, but Buckingham Palace has made precisely the same stipulation. It has even been suggested that Sarkozy is marrying Ms Bruni so quickly so that she'll be allowed to accompany him on his forthcoming state visit to Britain.
On the other hand, King Abdullah II of Jordan, and his lovely queen Rania, were more than happy to accommodate Sarkozy and his shagpiece the other day.
"To do so we would no means have to revert to sharia law. Simply hold immoral sexual behavior in ill repute."
I agree. What happened to us in the last fifty years? I often wonder if the Muslim onslaught is not a reaction in the universe to us forgetting what we are about.
Has there been a disappointment like Sarkozy the 'security candidate'? Hailed only a few months ago as the Second Coming, this street tough in the mould of Dirty Harry was going to clean up the carbeques and provide coherence to the war on the Islamists. Since then his antics including support for Turkey in the EU, which even the greasy man Chirac had the sense to stay away from makes him just another gasman. He and his vapid girlfriend can make a world tour of the Club Meds for all I care. Fans of Guiliani, another 'security candidate' beset with similar domestic problems should take note.
Hang on, do they recognise all marriages? If they had any consistency or sense in their religious beliefs they would only recognise Muslim marriages. But seems if you have been given the nod by a Scientologist priest (25th space cadet level)that is good enough?
Have they not heard of "common law marriage"? Thats the type of marriage where the girlfriend wants reimbursement for her long term attention.
This demonstrates what a poorly thought out cobbled together pile of inconsistent nonsense that Islam is.
Where do I send my 2c?
I'd like to second what DominvsVobiscvm, The Heresiarch, and Isabellathecrusader have said. We should not be applauding the fact that our moral standards have fallen so low that French presidents, who used simply to keep their concubines quietly on the side, now openly parade them in front of the world. (The Irish Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, used to do the same thing with his then-paramour, Celia Larkin. Appalling.)

Is Bruni a "concubine?" I thought she was his fiancee?
