Declaration Against Genocide

Whereas genocide — the murder, or plan to murder, an entire people — is a crime against all humanity;

Whereas genocide is a crime that has metastasized in the modern era, leading to the murders of millions of Armenians, Cambodians, Tutsis, Sudanese, Bosnian Muslims and others;

Whereas the largest and most devastating genocide on record is the Holocaust of European Jews;

Whereas a new genocide of the Jews is being called for by Islamic leaders in the Middle East;

Whereas global forces are being mobilized by the Iranian regime to eliminate the Jewish state;

Whereas the genocide of the Jews is called for in texts understood by some Muslims as authoritative and echoes through sermons in some mosques today, and is proclaimed by certain leaders of the Islamic religion;

Whereas Catholicism and other Christian denominations have condemned the Holocaust and repudiated anti-Jewish pronouncements that have stained their religious past;

We call on all Student Governments and campus Muslim groups to:

1. Condemn and repudiate the Hadith which reads: “The prophet, prayer and peace be upon him, said: The time [of judgment] will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews and kill them; until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!” Sahih Muslim book 41, no. 6985
2. Condemn and repudiate the Hamas Charter which says: “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it”
3. Condemn Ahmadinejad who has said “The accomplishment of a world without America and Israel is both possible and feasible.”
4. Condemn Hezbollah and its leader Hassan Nasrallah who has said:

“The Jews are a cancer which is liable to spread again at any moment.”

“There is no solution to the conflict except with the disappearance of Israel.”

“If they all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide.”

5. Affirm:
* The right of all people to live in freedom and dignity
* The freedom of the individual conscience: to change religions or have no religion at all
* The equal dignity of women and men
* The right of all people to live free from violence, intimidation, and coercion

We call upon all campus political, cultural, ethnic and religious groups to stand with us in opposing all forms of religious supremacism, violence and intimidation.

2.193. And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and worshipping of others along with Allâh) and (all and every kind of) worship is for Allâh (Alone). But if they cease, let there be no transgression except against Az-Zâlimûn (the polytheists, and wrong-doers, etc.)

  2. says

    I agree with this declaration.

However, “Whereas the largest and most devastating genocide on record is the Holocaust of European Jews” is not quite true.

    http://www.ukemonde.com/genocide/emargolis.htm

There was just as brutal a genocide for Ukranians mass-starved by Stalin during 1929-1933.

The precise number of Ukrainians murdered by Stalin’s custom-made famine and Cheka firing squads remains unknown to this day.

The KGB’s archives, and recent work by historians, show at least seven million died. Ukrainian historians put the figure at nine million, or higher.

Twenty-five percent of Ukraine’s population was exterminated.

Unfortunately, even after signing, I was unable to view a list of other signatories. As an American conservative of German-Irish stock, my signature matters very little.

Unless there are huge numbers of signatories, and unless those signatories are primarily (~90%) the alleged “Moderate” or “Mainstream” Muslims; I would consider the petition a failure. If such is not the case, I would also consider it a very disturbing indicator of the views of the alleged “Moderate” or “Mainstream” Muslims.

  4. says

There you go again – taking things out of context. Sahih Muslim book 41, no. 6985 doesn’t say kill ALL Jews, just that particular Jew who is hiding behind that particular tree. Jeez!

  5. says

“Whereas genocide is a crime that has metastasized in the modern era, leading to the murders of millions of Armenians, Cambodians, Tutsis, Sudanese, Bosnian Muslims and others….”

Only the elites seem to believe we are in some happy-bunny-multicultural-globalization era. However, just prior to the 20th century, beginning with the Irish famine, then the Armenians, then the Jews, the mass murder of people based on their ethnicity has been picking up steam. We are going into a tribal era. Just look at the breakup of Yugoslavia, the USSR, the tribalism in Africa, China in Tibet, etc. It does not look good for the 21st century. I think this century may be worse than the last in terms of genocide.

Nations and tribes write in large script the real amoral nature of humans. We invent all these rationalizations to exploit others (Islam is tops, not too much different than Nazi ideology in that regard). There has to be a fundamental change in the nature of humans if the species is to survive. I would not bet on it.

    Infidel33 said….
“Robert, you are going to cause extreme cognitive dissonance in the hyper-sensitive brains of our campus lefties.”

Right on Infidel33 !!, many, many non-muslims have indeed, caught the ‘muslim disease’, of cognitive dissonance!

    Dictionary definition:
    cognitive dissonance
    n. Psychology the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes.

    e.g. muslims tell us continually…..
The chief pirate was, a *prophet* of Allah?
    Allah ‘way’ is peace?
    ISLAM is peace?

Then in the next breath, they come out with,
‘Jews are hated by Allah, kill them!’
‘Kill the unbelievers who oppose you, in Allah’s way.’

    ISLAM is peace?…..
The Jewish tribe of Banu Qureza *surrendered*, and as an exercise of ISLAMIC mercy, Muhammad put 800 men to death.

    cognitive dissonance?…..
‘In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.’
    http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/001.qmt.html#001.001

And many, many, muslims are clearly *criminally psychotic* [the killings the violent out bursts], for ‘hero worshipping’ such an individual!

Consider too….. the whole of ISLAM is based, is built upon, the the words [and i will say this again, *the words*] which passed through the lips of *one man*.
To believe in ISLAM, you are compelled to accept as true, the utterances of *ONE single man*, a self professed warlord, a murderer, a pirate, a brigand, a *deceiver*, a thief.
ISLAM in its entirety, is based upon the utterances of one man, Muhammad.

    The murderer, the deceiver?
    http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamentals/hadithsunnah/bukhari/059.sbt.html#005.059.369

The cult of ISLAM is a false ‘religion’, ISLAM is entirely an edifice of falsehood and lies.

Muhammad was no prophet [*of God*].
He was a mass murderer, a pirate, a common brigand.

Wake up my muslim brothers [and,i am no muslim].

  8. says

“Whereas the largest and most devastating genocide on record is the Holocaust of European Jews;”

Actually, the largest and most devastating genocide on record is the thirteen-century-long Holocaust of the dhimmis (Jews, Christians, and other non-Muslims) which occurred throughout the Middle East, India, parts of Europe, and North Africa, i.e., the lands forcibly occupied by Muslims. The dhimmis were treated like cattle for thirteen centuries, or they were killed off. Entire communities were killed by the invading Muslims.

Probably the second largest would have been Stalin killing 25 million (?) of his own people.

I’m certainly not trying to belittle the Holocaust, because it was an incredibly horrific crime against humanity. But what the Muslims did (and are still doing) to the dhimmis for thirteen centuries makes Hitler look like a choir boy.

  9. says

I disagree with the sentiment that the Hadith should be censored. I think the responsible thing for Campus governments to do is to publicise the Hadith in campus news papers, that calls for Holy War against Christians and Jews. I think any repudiation by Muslim groups wold need to be publicised as well, with the media present to observe the act as it occurs.

The Holocaust was a terrible time in our history. Historically, the Islamists were in full support of NAZI plans to exterminate the Jews. They would have supported such schemes regardless of the nation that carried the horror out. One nation that gets a pass though, for exterminating and persecuting Jews, is the former Soviet Union, and present day Ukraine. These nations systematically dealt with Jews in a similar manner as the Nazi’s, and yet nothing is mentioned about it.

Moreover, there is a modern Holocaust ocurring in the world today that is unseen, and that receives little attention. That Holocaust has claimed over 45 million lives in the United States alone since the early 1970’s. The holocaust to which I refer is abortion. 45 million people have been exterminated before they had the right to breath the air which we enjoy everyday (even as polluted as some claim). If the unborn were instead 45 million born people who were exterminated, the international community would have cause for action. And yet these unborn children have no voice, no face, and no nation to advocate on their part. This Holocaust of Holocausts makes the deaths of 6 milion pale in comparison, but no less serious.

  10. says

    Beckett:

An intelligent person instinctively finds this holocaust=abortion analogy wrong-headed. Even if you don’t believe in abortion or believe (like Alfie) that it’s murder… one is not LIKE the other. And we especially don’t need “push my button”
    OT causes on Jihadwatch.

  11. says

    poetcomic1-

Agree. Abortion does not target the fetus because of ethnicity, tribe. It’s not genocide. It targets the fetus in a personal manner as a result of personal choice. They are not =.

  12. says

I agree, poetcomic, and I’m personally pro-life through and through.

On topic, I hope this petition does better than the Islamo-fascism petition, which last I saw only a few thousand had signed. I think it is important NOT to publicize the signatories online, so as not to dissuade folks who don’t want to go on record. I think there should also be a detailed privacy policy appended in a conspicuous place online.

There are lots of folks who are extremely apprehensive about leaving their e-mail addresses on ANY website, especially attached to controversial statements.

    Robert

I signed the petition. That done, if you and Horowitz are calling on Muslim groups to repudiate the hadiths, why not go all the way and ask them to repudiate the violent verses in the Quran? I mean – if they can be expected to distance themselves from hadiths that most of them recognize as authentic, what’s to stop them from doing the same with a Quran?

Mohammad is supposed to be the worthy successor to Jesus, right? What I can’t quite grasp is why Jesus would rebuke his disciples for asking if they should call down fire from heaven to destroy some folks who were inhospitable to Jesus, while Mohammad, ever mindful of his own exalted calling as Allah’s last and best prophet, would look for ways to AVENGE himself, particularly by beheading Oh, and how he hated poets who satirized His Prophetic Pomposity (See Muhammad’s Dead Poets Society)

If cognitive dissonance is the hallmark of Muslims, there is no clearer evidence than their assertion that Mohammad the Vengeful Beheader is at the same time “the perfect man.”

    ‘…Bosnian Muslims…”?

This was not a “genocide” but an ongoing war between Bosnia and Serbia.

Both sides lost tens of thousands in the conflict.

    Both committed atrocities.

Hardly fit for inclusion in this list.

The Killing Fields and The Armenian Genocide being compared with wartime casualties in a civil war is jarring.

The International Court of Justice, a year ago, ruled that Serbia did not commit genocide against the Bosnian Muslims.

    Won’t be signing this.

I understand that it was added to mollify pro-Muslim sentiment on campus, but it won’t work.

    SEE: Kosovo.

  18. says

    Good deed, Robert!

    It is about time…

When I get some time, I will follow through by opening another front – from the South Asian context.

  19. says

profitsbeard, thanks for the reminder that according to the ICJ, Serbia did not commit genocide, however it defined culpability, and there’s the rub.

According to this site “The ICJ, which instead deals with controversies between states, was faced with Bosnia’s claim that Serbia was responsible for the Srebrenica massacre. Although the Court ruled that genocide had taken place, it decided that Serbia was not responsible under international law.

According to the Court, the Bosnian Serb generals who were guilty of this genocide, the various Mladic’s and Kristic’s, were neither acting as Serbia’s agents nor receiving specific instructions from Belgrade.

The genocide could not therefore be imputed to Serbia, even if the Serbian government was paying salaries to Mladic and his colleagues, as well as providing them with financial and military assistance.

Nor was Serbia guilty of complicity, because, though it exercised considerable influence over Mladic and his people, it did not know, at the moment when the genocide was taking place that such a crime was being committed.

Having “absolved” Serbia from the principal crime, the ICJ offered a sort of “consolation prize” to Bosnia, affirming that the killings in Srebrenica had the character of genocide – a conclusion already reached by the ICTY.”

  20. says

I signed it. And I hope that the hopeful change on the horizon as Barack Obama and his wife, the long suffering couple of student lonas for an Ivy League education, will restore this country on the world stage for they are the agents of change and when he meets with Muslim leaders he will hopefully change their heats and minds (not win them because that is what the military does and we hate the military) and we can go skipping down the yellow brick road.

  21. says

    Lex-

The ICJ’s ruling was strained, and curious.

How does “8,000” victims become a “genocide“?

It trivializes the word and takes this kind of brutal and deplorable,
but limited war-crime and inflates it beyond rationality.

    It was a massacre.

    A slaughter.

    Not a “genocide”.

    Which means:

an attempt to kill off every person of that “race” “ethnicity”/ “tribe”/ “clan”.

This was a messy war between age-old foes.

Europe should have stopped it in 1992, but (as they prove again with NATO troops begging off service in Afghanistan) they were -and are- too chicksh*t to act, even in their own long-term self-interest.

We have to restrain words to their actual meanings.

And not try to coddle those in collegiate settings –who you want to influence to sign a pledge– with pandering equivalences like this addition of the “Bosnian Muslims” to the historical list of true “genocides”.

  22. says

Muslims need to sign the declaration, they have a lot to atone for. The Islamic invasions of India are estimated to have killed 80 million Hindu’s, the greatest mass murder in all of human history.

  23. says

profitsbeard, you’re logic is winning me over.

    The petition reads, in part: “Whereas genocide is a crime that has metastasized in the modern era, leading to the murders of millions of Armenians, Cambodians, Tutsis, Sudanese, Bosnian Muslims and others;

Millions of Bosnian Muslims were not killed. Some thousands were, and many of these were victims of calculated cruelty.

You may be right that this “genocidal” reference was included per the dictates of post-modern deconstructive redefinitional gobbledygook (call it ICJ-esque) to mollify (apostate?)campus Muslims, an enticement to get them to take that necessary “leap of doubt” and sign the petition.

Surely Mr. Spencer is taking note.

  24. says

    Robert,
How come you don’t go a little further with this declaration and condemn more Islamic verses that also includes disparaging statements about Christians?

You can also condemn verses that incites violence by Muslims.

The victims in this declaration are Jewish people and Israel. It is worth acknowledging the Jews but it would be even better to also include Islamic statements that includes Christians. There are many Islamic sources that equally disparages Christians.

You can add more verses such as these:

“Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]…until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued.” (Surah 9:27-)

V.51: O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends one to another. He among you who takes them for friends is one of them.

“Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it.” (Surah 2:216)

“It is He who has sent forth His apostle with guidance and the true Faith [Islam] to make it triumphant over all religions, however much the idolaters [non-Muslims] may dislike it.” (Surah 9:31-)

“If you do not fight, He will punish you sternly, and replace you by other men.” (Surah 9:37-)

“Prophet make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. Hell shall be their home.” (Surah 9:73)

“Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Deal firmly with them.” (Surah 9:121-)

“Say: ‘Praise be to God who has never begotten a son; who has no partner in His Kingdom…” (Surah 17:111)

  26. says

Beckett, I’m in agreement with you about the enormity of the contemporary Holocaust of abortion. But I can also agree with others who say that’s not the same as genocide. And it’s a world-wide crime, although the U.S. is a leading proponent of it. But it’s still mass-murder. And it’s an evil policy brought to us by the same lunatic left that supports open borders and unlimited, unregulated immigration; the same lunatic left that sees nothing in the West worth defending and that would hand Europe and America over to the ignorance and fanaticism of Islam.

  27. says

    People

A diary that I have, tells me that Yom ha-Shoah, in Australia at least, falls on Friday May 2nd this year.

Perhaps those of us who are truly, seriously worried about the genocidal anti-semitic rhetoric pouring out of the muslim world, most notably from Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (but he is far from being the only offender) should start organising, now, a major demonstration to publicly mark that day, not only to remember and mourn, but to warn.

In Un Chretien Pour Israel (‘One Christian *for* Israel), published in the mid-1980s, Jacques Ellul included a chapter entitled ‘anti-zionism and anti-semitism’, in which he warned:

And here is a rough translation (apologies for my schoolgirl French – it does not do justice by half to Ellul’s passion and precision):
    – “…we are in a situation that Dufour calls “pre-pogrom”: in which, behold, laid out, the facts: the rising up together of religious anti-semitism and political anti-semitism.

“No reaction or pro-Jewish defence on the part of the political, intellectual and religious authorities.

“Impossibility of using the internal checks of a democratic system (impossible for those opposing this flood to get into the media, monopolised by anti-Israel propaganda), while the threatened minorities cannot mobilise themselves (the Jews are accused, divided, with a bad conscience and partial loss of identity) as a consequence of this propaganda against the Jewish identity – characterised above all by its moral, humane, and spiritual value, which is here totally denied.”

    Now, English:
    – “The pogrom is prepared (whether within a nation, or internationally against the State of Israel) by the substitution of identity: people want to throw out the Jew in order to replace him with the Palestinian.

“So by an extraordinary inversion people ascribe to the Palestinians all the characteristics of Jewish history: the diaspora (the poor Palestinians scattered throughout the world…), genocide, the prehistoric bond with the land of Israel, the Warsaw ghetto (Beirut [1981-82] being often compared to the ghetto!), Auschwitz, etc.

“In the end these many factors converge and can crystallise in the fact that, historically, every great age of anti-Semitism and pogroms corresponded to a phase of crisis or economic recession. And this, today, ought to put us very much on our guard”.

THE POGROM IS PREPARED. So feared Jacques Ellul, in the 1980s, long before Phyllis Chesler wrote ‘The New Antisemitism’.

Ellul saw already, in the 1980s, that a vast oil-funded anti-Israel and anti-Jewish propaganda was coming from the Arab/ised Muslim world, separate from, but meeting and melding with, traditional western antisemitism and Soviet anti-Jewish propaganda.

In Ce Dieu Injuste? (1991), toward the end, Ellul focuses in on Jew-hatred in the Muslim world. He observes: ” l’horrible aventure des Temps presents: a la fois la Shoa commise par les nazis et celle preparee par les musulmans”, that is, “the dreadful occasion of the present age: both the Shoah committed by the Nazis, and that which the Muslims have prepared” (p. 163).

sheikyermami and other Australians here – I think we should try to organise a suitable public demonstration, or demonstrations, on cathedral steps or university campus or city square, on or around Yom ha-Shoah, in which to bring this looming stormcloud of a second Shoah that is clearly threatened against Israel and against the Jews worldwide, into the public eye.

I am thinking of the passages by Ellul that I have written above; but there are other things, such as Oriana Fallaci’s magnificent article with its repeated declaration ‘I find it shameful..’ and ‘I stand with the Jews’, or that beautiful, terrible piece by a Spanish journalist, ‘Europe died at Auschwitz’, or even Bennie Morris’s searing essay ‘the second Holocaust will not be like the first':

    http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull&cid=1167467762531

I think there needs to be a public gathering at which texts like these are read aloud, in all their searing intensity, their prophetic fury.

And we could draw to people’s attention the actual text of the Hamas Charter, and its sources in the Hadith, Sira and Quran, the Jew-hatred that is hardwired into the sacred texts of Islam, and some of the key ‘incitement statements’ that PMW and MEMRI have documented.

Similar events could be organised for town squares and university campuses, across the USA, Canada, and the UK, at least.

(This is not in any way to ignore or belittle the sufferings of others. There is, for example, no reason why, someday soon, a Day of Mourning for the Tears of Jihad [the millions of non-Muslim victims of jihad, enslavement and dhimmitude, on three continents] should not be instituted – Armenians, Buddhists, Hindus and non-Muslim black Africans might possibly wish to collaborate in such a commemoration.)

In the opening scenes a YOUTUBE video promo for the DVD documentary, “Farewell Israel”, the President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declares to a vast and animated crowd,

“The *ocean of rage* of the people of the region will surge and eradicate the Zionist regime.”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-IwwfeLp4M

Note the eerie description and fit, in the opening scenes of this promo, with the Bible verses below.

Not many muslims read the Bible.
To muslims the Bible is ‘verbotten’.
I don’t know if President Ahmadinejad reads the Bible?
    But, perhaps he should?

    Ezekiel 38:16
And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, *as a cloud to cover the land*; *it shall be in the latter days*, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

    Isaiah 17:12
¶Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise *like the noise of the seas*; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
13 The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
14 And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

    Isaiah 59:19
So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall *come in like a flood*, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.
20 And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.
21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.

    Jeremiah 46:7
Who is this that cometh up *as a flood*, whose waters are moved as the rivers?
8 Egypt riseth up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he saith, I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and the inhabitants thereof.
9 Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle and bend the bow.
10 For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

Soon after 9/11, I saw the need for a major muslim refutation of certain texts and teachings of Islam. You know, the ones used to justify killing non-muslims, like in New York and so many other places around the world. But can muslims oppose the hate we see written? The way I understand it, the Qur’an is not subject to change or reinterpretation.Normally an optimist, I hate to say this, but if this is true, I fully expect the killing for allah to continue regardless of how many declarations we sign. That doesn’t mean we should back off, all genocide sucks, and I fully support the Declaration.
