Innocuous video hid jihad plot

Sometimes a giant snowball is just a giant snowball. Sometimes it isn't. Canadian Jihad and War Is Deceit Updates: "Innocuous video hid terror plot," by Stewart Bell and Graeme Hamilton for the National Post (thanks to Sr. Soph):

When counter-terrorism police first screened the video found in Said Namouh's house last September, it looked like an innocuous home movie of little relevance to their investigation.

A jerky camera films Mr. Namouh rolling a giant snowball, then cuts away to a set of animal tracks leading into the woods in Quebec's Mauricie region, northeast of Montreal. A 4X4 roars in the background.

But a different story emerged when the soundtrack was translated from Arabic. Mr. Namouh's monologue was about hiding explosives inside the snowball to blow up a passing vehicle, Quebec Court was told during a bail hearing that concluded on Friday.

And it wasn't a snowman's face he was carving into the snowball but the letters " CVC," the initials of the Caliphate Voice Channel, a branch of one of al-Qaeda's most pervasive propaganda groups, the Global Islamic Media Front ( GIMF logo pictured here).

RCMP Corporal Michael Hanigan testified that Mr. Namouh spent long hours at his computer in Trois-Rivieres, editing GIMF videos that threatened Western countries like Germany and Austria and sought to inspire terrorists around the world.

" Oh, German government," says one video that Mr. Namouh is alleged to have helped produce. " This is our advice to you: Remove your soldiers from the Muslim lands. … Because otherwise you will one day regret it."...

Can "Mr." Namouh be deported ?
Perhaps he should be sent to the land formerly ruled by "Mr." Hitler.

Here, in the spirit of Mr Spencer's correction of the headline [from 'innocuous video hid terrorism plot' to 'innocuous video hid jihad plot'] is a re-imagining of the entire article, as it might perhaps have been worded, if the reporters and their editor had, for example, read and understood "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and the Crusades".

A new generation of jihadis has emerged in cyberspace. They are tech-savvy computer junkies scattered around the world who flood the Internet with jihad indoctrination videos and how-to manuals. Many of them work under the banner of the GIMF, including several in Canada.
" They provide propaganda and recruitment for jihad, the Muslim holy war," Cpl. Hanigan testified. " They are in a way the spokesmen for al-Qaeda."
Since the 9/ 11 attacks, al-Qaeda has put almost as much effort into poisoning minds as plotting attacks. Its mantra: Muslims are obliged to rise up against their own governments (deemed insufficiently Islamic) and the West.
To propagate this deadly fusion of violence and religion, al-Qaeda and its followers have gone online, using the global reach and anonymity of the Web to advance the jihad.
The GIMF is one of the most prominent such groups. Members produce and disseminate everything from battlefield videos to instructional guides on suicide bombings.
" The target audiences are global, including diaspora communities -- Muslims in the Western countries," said Professor Gabriel Weimann, author of Terror on the Internet (which might perhaps be re-named Jihad on the Internet).
The Israeli professor said his database of 6,000 al-Qaeda-related Web sites includes " numerous" examples of postings in English, German, French and other Western languages, indicating the intended audience is in the West.
Counter-jihad analysts believe the so-called homegrown jihadis who are emerging within Canada are being recruited partly as a result of this Internet incitement.
Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Algeria and the so-called ‘Palestinian territories’, that is, Gaza, with Arab Muslim-occupied Judea and Samaria, and the beleaguered Jewish state of Israel, all feature prominently in GIMF materials. Jihadist groups in those regions submit videos, photos and communiques, which the GIMF turns into flashy presentations and sends out to sympathetic Internet sites, as well as to main-stream ones like YouTube.
Rather than supporting a single jihad outfit, the GIMF champions global jihad. Its materials aim to indoctrinate potential recruits, provide the tools needed to conduct jihad raids, that is, terror attacks, and communicate the demands of jihadis.
" It's a virtual organization. It's everywhere; borders don' t matter any more," said Rita Katz of the SITE Intel Group, a U. S. company that monitors online jihad.
" They are entirely dedicated to what they believe in, so you'll find them spending hours of their time setting up and working on this operation," Ms. Katz said.
" Of course, everything is on a voluntary basis, which makes it very difficult to counter these people, because they do this 24/ 7.
" They never rest." While most of their activities are online, GIMF members have also sometimes planned and committed jihad raids. Over the past two years, GIMF members have been arrested in Austria, Belgium, Saudi Arabia and Canada.
The arrests have not yet had a noticeable impact on the pace of GIMF activity but they indicate that police and intelligence officers are hunting jihadis in cyberspace.
Mr. Namouh thought he was being security smart. He protected his anonymity by using a proxy server to post his materials online, and he would regularly inspect his house to make sure he wasn't being watched.
" With regards to security … I don't think there is a danger," he said in one online exchange, according to transcripts released by Crown prosecutors. " Thanks to allah, there is no suspicion."
He was wrong. He was being monitored and followed. But even when police can find virtual jihadis, the question then becomes what to do about it.
Crown prosecutors appear reluctant to approve criminal charges against those posting glorification of Jihad on the Web, even if it appears to incite violence.
The appropriate place to draw the line between free speech and practising jihad is still a matter of debate within Canada, but Mr. Namouh allegedly crossed it.
Police allege he was preparing to leave Canada to carry out a car bombing overseas, possibly in the so-called ‘Palestinian Territories’, that is, Judea and Samaria.
My great dream," he wrote in a posting last August, " is to become a martyr at your side."

How does that sound, folks? In a saner, better-informed world, perhaps Canadians opening up their 'National Post' would have read something like that.

I recommend a similar mental exercise for everyone whenever we encounter a mainstream media piece concerning the Third Jihad.

Final note - Mr Spencer put this story in the 'war is deceit' bin.

Hiding and concealment: death lurking beneath something normally associated with play, or with life: to hide explosives inside a big snowball, or (in another story from jihadwatch, the apparently pregnant woman who will have a bomb, not a baby, under her burqa) - this IS Islam. The veil, which pretends it means only modesty, but in fact is an act of aggression, a ploy in a dominance game, is par excellence the symbol of Islam. The use of Arabic as if it were a secret code is identical with the (false, and ridiculous) claim that the plain meaning of the translations of the Quran, as clearly visible to any Infidel with commonsense, is not what it says in Arabic.

The more one looks at it, the more one sees a pattern of lies wrapped around lies wrapped around lies.

A snowball's chance in hell..........

Time to start sending them back to the Islamic paradise they came from............trying to blow up innocent snowballs............wait 'till Frosty finds out.

" This is our advice to you: Remove your soldiers from the Muslim lands. … Because otherwise you will one day regret it."...

And this threat was made from....Canada? Does the irony escape them?

A follow up to the statement... "...Remove your soldiers from the muslim lands..."

should say "Remove all muslims from western nations and other free lands around the world."

Hey muslims, YOU all get out first with your welfare abusing selves and we will reciprocate the favor.

We could not move fast enough to seperate from your 7th century culture of death.

Holy whiteout, Batman! -- They're detonating Improvised Explosive Snowballs!! EVASIVE ACTION!!!

I wish we would treat these Muslim murderers like they wish to treat the rest of the world: Give them a trial, then execute them.

This may be slightly off topic, but this just occurred to me.
If I create a new religion, with its own laws and courts,(Much like ole Mo did.) would it then have to be recognized in say...the UK? Hell...aren't there some places in the US that are already puttin' up with this Sharia crap?
They've already set the precedent. On what basis could they allow one religions courts legitimacy and not anothers? I would think that with things in the PC world the way they are, one would be able to sue and force them to accept my new religions courts verdicts etc..
Just a thought...

I don't know what my mother-in-law puts in her matzoh balls but you've been warned!

Mr. Namouh's monologue was about hiding explosives inside the snowball to blow up a passing vehicle

Shades of Wile E. Coyote and Acme Industries.

Or Boris and Natasha.

One can only hope they look into the barrel of their gun when it doesn't fire immediately. Or that they stand under the "10 Ton" weight that they suspended over the road.

Meep meep.

Hungarian Crusader: Well said.

Putting TNT in snowballs.

Come on. Credit where it's due, that's creative.

Okay, so it's not up there with Beethoven's 5th, but we're talking inbred here.

Give the terminally brain dead a wee gold star, a pat of the back and, in a sane World, a life sentence.

Oh, the evil of it! Plotting to use snowmen to blow us up. Is nothing sacred to these morons?

Talk about snow flakes. Namouh must be the biggest one ever.

HUNGARIAN CRUSADER! You made a good point. If a person with smallpox or some other contagious disease tried to enter our house, we'd slam the door, bolt the windows, pronto! Islamic jihadists are like the bubonic plague! I've been pushing to BAN MUSLIM IMMIGRATION for months! -- we have a choice: political incorrectness or the jihadi pestilence!

omg!!!! and as everybody knows there are SNOWMEN all over Canada, whatever should we do????
(as Namouh cashes his umpteenth cheque from the Cdn. Gov't)

I spit.....
