And I know of no Jews who have asked or hinted that the west remove pigs from all businesses or otherwise. Now Muslims, yep, they will drive the chiseling of the west cause they can't stand anything western, at all.

It is forbidden Jews to EAT pork. In Eastern Europe at one time orthodox Jewish peddlers were the primary buyers of pig bristles from peasants for the manufacture of brushes. No big deal.
A whole complex of of not touching or even being near a particular animal smacks of 'Totem and Taboo' WORSHIP of the animal. As though one were assigning it sacred powers.
Someone should explain to those poor people who are offended by a piggy bank that they are not made out of pigskin, no pigs or pig products were used in their manufacture. If the negative reaction is that they are an image of an unclean animal, now where in the quran does mo inveigh against images of an unclean animal.

No... that is untrue. It is not considered an unclean animal for jews. It is considered unclean for consumption. One can pet a pig, and do and understand that they are intelligent animals.
And as a jew, it is quite fine that non jews choose to eat pork, and especially the fat piggy presented with a slot for putting in coins, is likewise not verboten whatsoever from the desk of a religious jew
where it likewise, represents frugality, thrift, saving for a rainy day.
The article is bogus, and should be responded to in just this fashion, to assess the meaning of the 'dhimmitude' that that the article reveals. There is nothing wrong with Norbert the piggy as the symbol for the banks, the dutch and jews would never have been so oppressive. Never. The bogosity of this article really does call for the refutation it truly deserves and on these grounds, a comparison between the horrendous and oppressive religion of Islam, and Judaism, which is nothing like the destructive oppressive offshoot that is Islam.
How about a sheep instead? You could pop the head off to put the money in. Plus, it would be interest free savings, Shariah compliant. You could give it to the adult Muslims, too, and tell them to just go away.

I had exactly the same idea! Although the one I envisioned would definitely not be suitable for kids.
But seriously, why are these people making such idiotic decisions? Can they not at least compromise by keeping the piggy banks, which most kids love, and offering them as one of a selection of gifts when a child opens a new account? Or are they worried that a little 8-year-old Muslim kid would be so offended at merely being OFFERED a piggy bank, even when he/she can choose an alternate gift, that all hell will break loose? Are they that scared?
There was a very similar story about a bank in England last year. Piggy banks are a major childhood tradition in Western countries, because pigs are associated with wealth and prosperity. For centuries only the moneyed classes could afford to eat pork. Owning a pig was a sound investment. People also love pigs, and pork, in China, where maybe the piggy bank tradition came from originally. It's not as trivial an issue as it appears. You don't take away beloved and harmless traditions out of some vague fear of "giving offense" to a very small and very uppity minority without damaging and demoralizing the culture, which seems to be the point.

China pulled this same crap last year in "the year of the pig" by having a government official publicly announce that China was going to "tone down" its use of the pig image for 2007 so as not to offend Muslims. The statement actually said China is a country that respects all races. The problem is that Islam is not a "race". When will people get that straight? So why should they qualify for special considerations (Christians sure as hell don't get special treatment in the land of Mao's legacy of oppression)? Anyway, about the pig...of all the Chinese zodiac symbols the pig is considered the most auspicious because the pig is the symbol of good luck and good fortune. In China women try to time pregnancies so that they will give birth during a pig year. More children are born during a pig year than any other year. People born in the year of the pig are considered more lucky than everyone else. My point is that for China to kowtow to Muslims over a 4,000 or 5,000 year history of such auspicious and historical symbolism...it really tells you something. Something sad.
I have a feeling it has a lot to do with China's growing business (and military?) ties to the Islamic world. Muslims are a very, very tiny minority in China anyway, and from what my Chinese friends tell me, they are extremely moderate--most Chinese Muslim women are not veiled and they wear the same clothes as everyone else--and just as nationalistic as all other Chinese. And these Muslims have been in China for hundreds of years, so suddenly making an issue over the pig image can't possibly be for the sake of a tiny Muslim community. There's something bigger. Dhimmutude, the Chinese version.
One thing about the Jews and pigs...Jewish people simply don't own pigs or eat pork. That's all. They don't make a scene about it. Like the Muslims.

However, I must admit to a certain pickiness - I only like cartoon representations of pigs, several of which i have gaily lying about my house.
The increasing equation of the Muslim religion to the Jewish religion is spurious and misleading.
Jewish laws and religious customs are only ever supplemental to the existing laws of the country it inhabits whereas Muslim laws are designed to replace the laws of the country it inhabits.
