The film that has the world holding its breath could appear today. "Dutch film to slam Islam," by Leander Schaerlaeckens in the Washington Times (thanks to Sparta):
BRUSSELS — Europe's uneasy relationship with its Muslim minority faces another blow next month, when Dutch politician Geert Wilders releases a 15-minute film that compares Islam to Nazism and communism.The film is called "Fitna," an Arabic term for "discord." It intersperses verses of the Koran with footage of terrorist attacks and other Islamist-inspired violence.
"The film will show that the Koran isn't a dead work, but the face of Islam — a tremendous hazard," Mr. Wilders told the daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad.
He said the film calls the Koran "the latest test to Western democracies since Nazism and communism."
Mr. Wilders said the film will be finished tomorrow and will be posted on a Web site, www.fitnathemovie.com, when it airs on television.
Several Pakistani Internet providers tried this week to block YouTube on the orders of the government because it carried a movie trailer for the film. The effort caused a worldwide crash of the popular online site for sharing videos.
The next part of this article, you'll note, has no perpetrator. Insults to Islam somehow, inexplicably, "turned deadly," leading to "worldwide riots" that "left more than 100 people dead" -- at whose hands? We don't know. At least we do hear that van Gogh's killer thought of his victim as an "enemy of Islam":

The Iranian justice minister requested his Dutch counterpart to ban the latest film, calling it "satanical and undermining," according to Iranian press agency IRNA.The Dutch government has thus far refused to act, citing the principle of free speech.
Stephen Suleyman Schwartz, director of the Washington-based Center for Islamic Pluralism, said it was "strange" and "ahistorical" to think that a 1,400-year-old text could become a threat to the West.
"My advice to Muslims is to ignore such trivial provocations, maintain their dignity and faith and work to improve their communities," Mr. Schwartz said. "Mr. Wilders has a right to make whatever films he wants and Muslims have a right to ignore them."...
I'm glad that Schwartz, as a Muslim spokesman, says that Muslims "have a right to ignore" Wilders' films, which presumably suggests that Muslims also have a right not to start going mad, smashing things, issuing murderous threats, and attacking people because of Wilders' current film. But Schwartz's statement that it's "'strange' and 'ahistorical' to think that a 1,400-year-old text could become a threat to the West" is, well, strange and ahistorical. Muslims motivated by Qur'anic texts conquered the Middle East, North Africa, Persia, Spain, and much of India, and threatened Europe for 1,000 years. At any time during that period if anyone had asked any of the jihad warriors what he was fighting for, he would have answered with Qur'anic references.
And after that, when the Islamic world grew weak and jihad against the West became an historical memory, this change was not the result of a new understanding of Qur'anic imperatives to wage war against and subjugate Jews and Christians (cf. 9:29) and war against other unbelievers also (9:5). Rather, it was simply a matter of being too weak to act upon these imperatives, until Saudi money and the communications revolution changed all that. Strange and ahistorical? When jihadists today unanimously frame their actions in terms of the Qur'an? No. It appears that Mr. Schwartz is indulging in that all-too-common feature of today's public discourse: Fantasy-Based Analysis.

"You should attract people, not make them outcasts. [Mr. Wilders] preaches ripping up half the Koran and the fight against Islam. This shows extremely little respect for those with a different religious opinion. He does not contribute to a tolerant Netherlands."...
The problem is, neither do the jihadists. Wilders, by calling attention to the problematic aspects of the Qur'an, is providing an opportunity for the Muslims who profess to reject jihad violence and Islamic supremacism to explain how they approach such texts, and how they propose to disabuse jihadists of their understanding of them. But instead: rage.
If it's "strange" and "ahistorical" to think that a 1,400-year-old text could become a threat to the West, it's even stranger and more ahistorical to think that insults to said text can harm anyone.
Like the cartoons. They're just lines on paper, folks, lines on paper cannot harm anyone. And a film is the same thing, only more sophisticated in its presentation.
If they're going to live in either the West or the 21st Century, they had well better get used to the idea of their faith being insulted, because it ain't gonna stop.

The cartoons had deeply offended Muslims all over the world. He added that this would provide a legitimate excuse to kill the persons who drew the cartoons as they are filthy Kufr scum."
The theological dictatorship said the cartoons and coming film had incited growing Islamophobia in Europe, undermining efforts to build understanding between Islam and the West.
He continued,"this understanding must first and foremost be based upon the unconditional surrender of all western values such as freedom of speech, religion and conscience.
A spokesperson for the Dutch goverment said "we have no axe to grind with the sentiments expressed by the duly elected government of Pakistan" He added "Even as we speak the government is seeking to curtail the freedom of speech of its duly elected MP Kurt Wilders"
We also acknowledge he said "that despite all our efforts to integrate our country into Eurabia we still have a long way to go" said the spokesman, Adolf Quisling (MP).
He added that "Moslems have every right to feel offended at living in a democracy and having to abide by the rule of the demographically declining majority - but this would not be a problem for long"
Hurray for Mr. Wilders! It is amazing to me that so many people look on the upcoming violence as his fault - let's not hold anyone actually perpetrating the violence responsible!! This quote from the article sounds like so much gobbledygook. The perspective given is that the Qur'an is blameless, and terroists are inspired by Islamists. But, what inspires the Islamists?
I understand that all Muslim terrorists are Islamists, but not all Islamists are, strictly speaking, terrorists. If the problem lies in Islamist-inspired violence, then doesn't it make sense to discover and eliminate that which inspires the Islamists? That inspiration appears to come from the Qur'an and the ahadith. There's just no getting away from it.

In this Washington Times article there is a photo of Pakistanis burning American, Israeli and Dutch flags, in protest of this film. I suppose they can do that because it is a Free Democratic country-not really. Moreover, it is funny, I thought they were allies of the United States I guess the 10 billion dollars was not enough to fight terrorists in their North West Frontier. There are large numbers of atheists who are still deluded into believing that Christians zealots are the biggest threat. Blasphemy! Blasphemy! Mr. S.S. Schwartz could lose his head in some Islamic countries for that statement. All good Moslems know that the Koran is not 1400 years old. It is timeless, eternal, chiseled forever on tablets in Paradise. It was revealed (at least in part) to Moses and Jesus and other earlier prophets, some of them thousands of years before Mohammed, and in full to Mohammed. To say that it's 1400 years old is to say that Mohammed, and/or his followers, created it then. Blasphemy!
Geert Wilders is a brave man. He will no doubt need that quality far more in the coming months. He may be, especially by the leftish standards of the Netherlands, a "right-wing extremist," but it seems it takes an extremist to counter Islamist extremism. Wilders' message may fall on many deaf European ears, alas, thanks to distrust or fear of the "hard-right" politics of the messenger.

Stephen Schwartz is a strange bird....a Jewish convert to Sufi Islam who is more rabidly anti-Wahhabi than most right-wing infidels. He despises the Saudis and - in truly Islamic fashion - has established them as the singular repository for all the Islamic world's ills....(much the way most Muslims have cast Israel and/or America in that role).
Reading Schwartz's articles or watching him speech-ify, one is very quickly struck by the extent of the cognitive dissidence in his thinking. He is very pro-American, a bona-fide national security hawk, an unabashed proponent of Democratizing the Islamic world, and yet is also a total apologist for Muhammad and his reign of terror on the Arabian peninsula 14 centuries ago.
Schwartz is both valuable and dangerous to the counter-Jihad. He is valuable as a dissenting voice from the anti-American Muslim mainstream and for his promotion of pluralism as a stark contrast with the monism that actually defines Islam. He is dangerous because certain gullible infidels point to him as an example of a strain in Islam that is compatible with Western values.
Schwartz's fate will be similar to that of those eccentric advocates of "Socialist Democracy" in the Communist world in the 70s and 80s whom Western liberals used to get so enthusiastic about when pimping for systemic convergence...they're all forgotten now.

God Almighty has got His own ways of making His ‘Word of Truth’ known to the common folks lazing in the streets. He some time uses even Satan like Geert Wilders to convey the message.
But it is pity that where Muslims are not seen successful enough to make His message be known to common folks to all the nations in the world; here you find another way of introduction of His Divine Message? Millions will reach for this Divine Book and learn the Truth. Many more millions will be soon accepting the Gods Last Teachings in waiting for them…when they all turn to Islam.
Now this argument may be over that we don’t know that there is a living God and may not hold us responsible for not submitting to His will as His creation.
You may not escape the clutches of God Almighty.

ethoman, thanks for the links to that interview with Wilders. What a brave and articulate man he is. I only hope his film is as clear-eyed and plain-spoken as he is in person. If so then it will be worth the wait.
