I don't know what a "moderate Salafite" would be. A Salafi is one who adheres to "pure Islam," and hence holds to the same goals regarding political Islam that Al-Qaeda itself champions. Perhaps they differ on the means to attain those goals.

Algiers, 18 March (AKI) - Members of the al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb militant group in Algeria have reportedly attacked members of a moderate organisation opposed to its terrorist activities.A report on Tuesday in the Algerian newspaper el-Khabar said an al-Qaeda militant carried out a raid against a mosque in the Algerian province of al-Wadi on Sunday night and killed two men while they prayed.
According to the report, eyewitnesses said masked men entered the mosque as evening prayers were being held forcing everyone to fall to the ground.
The armed militants called for the two men, Harun Ahmad, and his cousin, Harun Abdel Jabbar, to step forward. They were then taken to the courtyard in the mosque where they were shot to death as the killers, speaking in an Algerian dialect, said: "We kill you with God's consent."
The two victims were part of a group of moderate Salafites who are opposed to the terrorist activities carried out by the al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb group.
According to investigators, the two men were murdered by a local leader of of the Islamic terrorist group, Masoudi Muhammad al-Hafith.
Another moderate Salafite was killed in the same area in a similar situation in March 2006.
Salafites are Muslims who adhere to a pure interpretation of the Koran and are inspired by the lives of the first Muslims.

This was merely A-Q's way of clearing up the usual misunderstanding of the faith by a couple of misguided Koranists.
Muslims may differ on the means, sometimes murderously so. See the Slow Jihadists of Fatah and the Fast Jihadists of Hamas, in Gaza, round about a year go. Tactics and timing may be sources of controvery. Ultimate aims are not. They are set down in the texts.
The two men killed were, apparently, less willing to use, or perhaps even opposed to the use, of terrorism against fellow Muslims in Algeria. Infidels should not misinterpret this, even as they should not misinterpret the Saudi government's "de-programming" of Al-Qaeda members, which is only a "de-programming" as to hostile acts carried out against the Saudi government, its Al-Saud rulers, and their corrupt courtiers. Such "de-programming" does nothing to diminish immutable enmity toward Infidels.
When such killings as those of these "Salafists" is reported in the West, it often is presented as a morality play, in which, because Al Qaeda is bad, those whom members of Al Qaeda kill must, therefore, be "moderate" and good.

Thats like saying God told me to kill you. Most societies see this kind of mental illness as some of the most demented, sick behaviour that humans are capable of. Could anything be farther from the truth of a loving, forgiving God. People that do something horrendous in the name of God are people that Gods adversary, Satan, has had the most success with their thought life and has convinced them that they are acting on God's direct command. That they then attribute their actions to God's direction is His enemy Satan, in essence, thumbing his nose at God saying; look at what your creation is doing now.
In my humble opinion, of course.
Allah is very compliant. If you have a disagreement with someone about anything...anything at all, Allah is going to give you blanket approval to maim, kill, behead..whatever you need to do..lie steal..bare false witness..allah knows best and what is best is what YOU want.
When they say they kill with God's consent, they don't really mean God, they mean allah the moon god's (aka mohammeds (bboh) hallucination) consent.

No need. Mosques usually carry a wide array of fine weaponry. These guys probably missed their training period and paid the ultimate price.

There will probably be more of an outcry at law enforcement searching a mosque on reports of jihad activity than at this act of grotesque barbarism.
