CAIRO, Egypt: Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak warned Tuesday that continued insults to the Prophet Mohammed will just make the situation worse for everyone, while at the same time criticizing the extremists using these insults to justify their actions.Mubarak also warned Israeli that no occupation lasts forever and urged the Palestinians to give peace a chance.
"With the Prophet's birthday anniversary, the falsifications and insults have surfaced again hiding behind the freedom of expression and the press," he said in comments broadcast live on state television. "We tell them it is enough now talking about the dialogue between cultures, civilizations and religions and be aware of following the path that will take you and us into a dangerous abyss."
The Egyptian president did not say who his remarks were directed at, but they came amid renewed controversy over the reprinting by Western newspapers of a Danish cartoon deemed insulting to the prophet to show their commitment to freedom of speech.
Mubarak also accused Islamic extremists of acting contrary to Islam's teachings of moderation and hurting its reputation to outsiders.
"We tell ourselves, truly and frankly, that there are some people among us who harmed Islam before non-Muslims did. Those who are among us ignored the moderation and forgiveness of Islam, distorted its image and gave excuses to those who harmed it by connecting it to extremism, terrorism and backwardness," Mubarak said....

the Muslim Arabs need to weaken Israel, for they cannot at this point go in for the kill. If they push it back, and push it back, and push it back, and at every step, keep making a new demand, that Israel will have to yield to, and others will pressure it to do so, for each demand, by itself, will be seen as somehow "reasonable" and not as part of an endless chain of demands, all designed to weaken Israel, to lessen its ability to patrol its own borders, to command the heights of Judea and the invasion routes from the east that, if used by a powerful force, could cut Israel in two overnight (at its 1949 armistice-line waist, the eight miles from Qalqilya to the sea), to deprive it of everything, including control of aquifers, that it nedds to survive.
"Peace as a strategic option" merely means "a peace treaty" in order to obtain concessions and yieldings and surrenders otherwise unobtainable. It means a treaty that will be observed, by the Arab -- "Palestinian" -- side, in precisely the manner, with just as much good faith, as Muhammad observed his treaty made with the Meccans in 628 A.D. at Hudaibiyyah. And we all know how that one turned out. Don't we?

He was right about one thing. The Israeli "occupation" of Gaza certainly didn't last. Neither did its "occupation" of Lebanon. That just leaves the Golan Heights and the West Bank and that strip of farmland (Shabbat Farms?) claimed by Lebanon to go.

I had to look this up--the "Prophet's birthday" (also the anniversary of his death)--Mawlid or Milad--occurs during the third Islamic month of Rabi' al-awwal. n the last few years, it's fallen anywhere from January 24 to March 31. It falls on March 20 this year, or March 25 for Shia.
Do they really think most non-Muslims keep track of this stuff? Most of us have to check the calendar every year just to find out when Easter--a major holiday, both religious and secular--is celebrated.
As you might imagine, Islamic scholars have been divided on whether observing mawhid is permissible in Islam. It's banned altogether in Saudi Arabia.

Two Norwegians, part of a group of intoxicated Scandinavian tourists on holiday in Egypt, were nearly lynched at the resort town of Hurghada this week, after their antics deeply offended the local population.
The two Norwegians and three Swedes ended up being arrested by local police, who protected them from an angry mob.
The troubled started after the five Scandinavian tourists got drunk, dressed themselves up like Muslim pilgrims and started dancing around the statue of a mermaid located in a town square, and pretending she symbolized Allah.
The Scandinavians apparently were trying to parody Muslim pilgrimages to Mecca. When they started stripping off their clothes, the local Egyptians had had enough and went on the attack.
A local policeman told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that his colleagues had to step in to protect the tourists from angry local residents. "If they hadn't been arrested, they probably would have been lynched," an Islamic expert told Aftonbladet.
The tourists were initially held on charges of indecent conduct, since some of the men exposed themselves. The charges were later raised to blasphemy, which can be punished severely.

To be unable to take a joke is a sign of weakness, both mentally and culturally, and only invites more jokes and insults. We are not "hiding behind the freedom of expression and the press", we are protecting it as one of the central pillars of our civilization, just as we should be. Even our own government cannot limit our freedom of speech if it wishes to remain in power. By voluntarily surrendering our freedom of expression we would be willingly jumping headfirst into the abyss of darkness that you find yourself in.

I have met many converts to Islam. No one, absolutely no one, of them read the Qur'an or any of the classic Islamic literatures. Muhammad being the biggest terrorist, adulterer, pedophile, liar, ... is very well documented in the Islamic literatures. If you do not believe me, read for yourself his biography by Ibn Ishaq.
