Note that the usual NGOs have been lamenting the fact that "conditions in Gaza are worse than at any time since 1967."
Think about that. What that means is that the conditions in Gaza were terrible under Egyptian rule, and then, once the Israelis took over in 1967, steadily improved as long as Israel was in control, and then, now that Israel has been entirely out of Gaza (so much for this "occupation" the local Arabs in Gaza keep screaming about -- they mean, of course, Israel itself is occupied by Jews, and that simply, to them, isn't right), conditions have again, under Arab rule, slowly degenerated. They have degenerated to the extent that conditions of life now approach, despite Israel turning over intact much-improved infrastructure, and those greenhouses that were promptly looted and destroyed by the "Palestinians," and the billions in aid money received from Infidels (strangely, nothing substantial appears to come from fellow members of the Umma), what they were the last time Arabs were in control.
And yet these British NGOs dare to suggest that this is Israel's fault? What nonsense people are allowed to get away with, if no one calls them to account. NGOs have come a long and very dismal way since the dreams of Rene Cassin.
Look. Israel right now is facing an enemy that wanted, that wants, that will always want, to destroy it. Just a few days ago 7,000 Arabs in Gaza were howling with delight in one demonstration alone, howling with delight at the massacre of young religious students who were busy studying the Torah. They did not die in a raid gone wrong, where every attempt had been made to prevent civilian casualties. Not at all. The site was deliberately chosen. They were students, studying. They were in the act of prayerful study when they were deliberately murdered. And now, with the guns shooting into the air, the ululations of pleasure going from one end of Gaza to the next, the Israelis are expected to not merely hold back, but also to supply electricity, food, and medicine to these howlers?
The Israelis have proven themselves, in their diplomacy and general understanding of Islamic opposition to them (what should be called the Lesser Jihad), to be geniuses in reverse. No other group of Infidels should be as trusting, as endlessly gullible, as confused, as again and again many Israelis have shown themselves to be. In this regard Israel is not a model to emulate, but to avoid. It would be wonderful if a sufficient number of Israelis bothered to study Islam, and learned once and for all the bleak truth. It would be wonderful if they then began, far more cleverly than they ever have up to now, to make their case, and to settle in for a long war that cannot conceivably have a "two-state solution," or any "solution" except insofar as the forces of Islam can be demoralized and divided, and changes be prompted, far in the future, from within Islam.
Pre-emptive surrender, based on ignorance of Islam, will not do. Not for Israel or any other Infidel country.
What should be done? Begin with the cutting off of all goods and supplies that go from Israel to Gaza. Not just temporarily, until the Arabs of Gaza begin to behave in a manner less reminiscent of a Nazi rally, a little more disorganized, no doubt -- no hint of Teutonic efficiency -- but with the same kind of open display of hysterical hate. No, make that cutoff permanent.
And those appalling reporters for the major news outlets are no longer fit to report on what was and is and will remain, a Lesser Jihad that is being conducted against Israel. They have proven themselves again and again unable to recognize and describe properly what has been demonstrated, not for the first time (remember those crowds in Gaza and the "West Bank" celebrating joyously on news of the 9/11 attacks).
It has to be taken in, it has to be understood, and they have made no attempt to do that. Nor is such a person, indeed, fit to report on anything else.
"Begin with the cutting off of all goods and supplies that go from Israel to Gaza."
A shame Israel doesnt have the spine to do it. Cut off the power as well. Gazans want independence, give it to them.
Gaza is indeed a mess. This is what you get when terrorists, who know nothing but murder and mayhem, gain control of a place. They are not administrators or builders but destroyers. Taking over Gaza isn't enough though-the palestinians want to extend their brilliant rule over all of what's now Israel. In a backhanded way, I hope they succeed because then a dreadful cancer will be even worse in the region that will gnaw at its current moral supporters-the ummah at large. If the Arabs think having Israel in the neighborhood is intolerable wait til "palestine" happens-we're already seeing a sample with the Gazans giving Egypt a few headaches after breaking through the border. All those losers really deserve one another.
The Israelis are of course aware that it's still an anti-semitic world out there, and that everything they do in the way of defending themselves will be immediately subjected to a blatant double standard, by people who remain as silent as the grave when defenceless Jews are slaughtered, but scream bloody murder in response to Israeli operations. (I have myself heard such people become indignant over the Israelis even TALKING about defense and response.)
Just as they have no choice but to take this into account when mounting military operations, and obviously make it a part of their war aim to achieve everything they can in the shortest possible time, before the chorus of indignation over their daring to defend themselves becomes too loud, so they walk very carefully with regard to supplying mismanaged Gaza, pretending that Mahmoud Abbas is a moderate, and pursuing relations and peace talks with people who, to put the matter simply, want them dead.
The Jewish experience renders this kind of approach pretty much unavoidable. They know there is no justice for them. They must deal with an unjust world, and that is by no means only the Islamic one.
Why is anti-Semitism so acceptable in the world scene but when you hold those Islamic arabs to any civilized standards you get called a racist.
Oh, so they have noticed the wrecking crew that is running the place. I suppose that's the fault of someone else. The wise old timers used to say "you can't help those who won't help themselves".
It is time for Israel to realize the double standard of dhimmis of the West. Can any one be fooled that if rockets were raining on any American or European city, the governments of those countries would have by now decimated not only the puppets (Hamas or Hizbollah) but also waged an all out war against the master puppeteer (Iran). If americans can go after Panama for just supplying drugs, god only knows what they would have done if they were facing the same menace as Israel.
OR might have surrendered by now! One can never fully assess how dhimmis behave.
Someone on the Australian's letter section just stated that Israel still occupies Gaza because they supply them with electricity, fuel, food etc.
So this is the blatant Jew hatred that permeates the left after years of lies and deceits fielded by the MSM.
All these Jew hating leftists and journalists are not accountable for the lies they disseminate in their attempts to summon yo hatred of Israel.
The recent lies by the BBC regarding the "bulldozing" of the terrorist's home and the reference to the students being "under 20 years of age when in fact they were school children is but one example of their treachery.
There will be no libel actions against them. no censuring by Journalistic authorities. no pangs of conscience for the deaths their dishonesty will cause in the future. The principles they might have adhered to have long ago been thrown in the dustbin
Oh, so they have noticed the wrecking crew that is running the place. I suppose that's the fault of someone else. The wise old timers used to say "you can't help those who won't help themselves".

The "leaders" ARE helping themselves...to anything that they can steal, food, money, guns, etc. It is their PEOPLE they will not help.
BLAME THE JOOOSSSSSE! It works every time.
Israel does not do what it needs to do because of international pressure. The US calls the tune.
And given the trends we see in the leadership here in the US, that certainly doesn't bode well for Israel.
I do so agree with Hugh, that Israelis have underestimated the underlying Islamic imperatives behind Arab enmity for decades, myopically focussing on short-term issues such as borders. The chickens are coming home to roost.
Victor Davis Hansen has an excellent recent article, "The tired Gaza two-step". The only point I am in slight disagreement with him on is where he says that Hamas' violence toward Israel could "start another war"--it already is a war, just one that Israel is not doing enough to defend herself against.
Still, you rarely get such clear-eyed analysis. If Hamas were really serious about "filling potholes"--that is, running even a marginally decent and sane state--Gaza could be a model for the region, rather than the violent basket-case it is today.
