More on this story -- I believe I misunderstood the earlier one as suggesting that since he was charged with premeditated murder, he would face a longer sentence. That doesn't appear to be the case.

(ANSAmed) - AMMAN, MARCH 10 - The Jordanian citizen who first killed his sister and her alleged lover with an automatic rifle and then surrendered to the police faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison. The man explained that he committed the crime to avenge the family honour. The double honour killing, the fourth since the beginning of the year, took place last Friday but it was reported to ANSA only today by Jordanian judicial sources. The crime was committed in Azraq (120km east of Amman). The young victim (23 years old), whose identity was not disclosed, was hit by at least four gunfire bullets, while her alleged lover, who before being killed was reportedly in "intimate behaviour" with the young woman, was hit by a further six bullets. "I killed my sister to protect the reputation of the family and I do not feel any remorse", the assassin told the investigators. From the autopsy it emerged however that the girl was still a virgin before being killed. The Jordanian law is usually very lenient with the authors of honour killings and the killer faces a sentence comprised between six months and one year. In the Hashemite kingdom, there are an average some 20 honour killings every year.(ANSAmed).
But, since men in Islam are worth twice the value of any woman, this will be as if he were serving TWO years for her murder, not just one.
That's more like it, right?
Yea, but if her value is half that of any man, then that's only six months.

Everything is calculated to free the killer quickly.
A "longer" sentence will make it more forgettable, so they can quietly release him in a month.
A "too short" sentence would invite closer scrutiny.
And require the killer to likely serve 4-5 months.
Remember, the Muslim abacus only works in zero-g, morally.

Where is the outrage at the publication of the autopsy verdict on the victim's virginity? Of what relevance is it? Was it not enough of an outrage to have her life ended brutally by a sibling? Must the details of her private life be made public?
Obviously, the fact of her virginity is included in the article to show that the brother erred in his murderous attack -- and the implication is that if she had been found to be a non-virgin his attack would have had justification.
When will the world learn that a woman's body is her own affair? No one -- neither brother nor father, neither priest nor prophet -- has the right to violate a woman's bodily integrity.
In this case, the victim's bodily integrity was destroyed by violence; and her dignity was attacked by the public disclosure of details which should remain personal.
I hope this murdering monkey dies a very painful,
horrific and frightening death, sooner rather than later.

Looking at the situation through a Western prism -- assuming the independence, autonomy, privacy, and dignity of the individual -- avails us nothing against Islamism. In Islam, a woman's virginity or lack thereof is a very public matter, just as her chattel-status is displayed publicly by hijab.
What more can one expect from an ideology created by a man who literally called women "dirt"? ("Your wives are a tilth unto you, so go unto your tilth whenever and however you will.") Just keep in mind the words of the Grand Mufti of Australia: "If she was at home, in her room, in her hijab, this would not have happened."
The report of the females' virginity is what is actually helping in some incidences with the outrage that is finally causing women to stand up for their sisters, daughters and so forth. If you've read much about the "honor killings," you would know that this report really does help the cases, depending on which country it is in, of course. Most recently, if I remember correctly, within Israel, the female members of the family, as well as a brother were outraged enough to go to the police about it all. The sister in now in hiding, but the killer is in jail. This is a start. This tribal ritual goes so deep, and it is not just with the Muslims, but some of the Arab Christians as well. Of course, "Christian" is questionable here. Again, this is a civilized judgement being placed on a cultural ritual that is completely outrageous to nonArabs alone. Personally, I'd want my autopsy report to vindicate me if it could. Wouldn't you?
One year? Way too long. Everybody know's that women are Evil and deserve all they get.

Twenty-two-year-old Ameena, an acid burns victim, regrets marrying her husband Mohammad Ali, alias Danish, who splashed acid on her face after allegedly suspecting that she had illicit relations with another man. The severe burn injuries have not only disfigured her face, but also damaged both her eyes, compelling her to hide her face behind a veil as her daughters, aged seven and two-and-a-half, are frightened by the sight of their mother’s disfigured face.
Her husband has been temporarily detained by the police, but Ameena fears he may return and attack her two daughters if the concerned authorities let him go scot-free. She has also filed a suit against her husband for dissolution of her marriage, but because Danish possesses her NIC and the couple’s marriage certificate, Ameena fears she may not be able to do so.
