I was just thinking all day today about how brave and courageous liveleak.com must be for allowing access through their service. They must have known the risks given all the pre-release publicity.

Then I come home to view Fitna again and send some emails out to a list of people I thought would be interested in it. Instead, I read this post.

Cowards. Unmitigated. Unequivocal. Cowards.

Liveleak did a great job as far as i am concerned, they brought out the movie and now it is up to us to keep the fire burning.

Fitna issent a great movie, especialy for people who have already seen the problems comming. But for the sleeping majority, i hope it is a good enough wakeup call.

In holland we have about 6% population of islam atm whit all the trouble that comes whit it. Oure media is mostly leftside orientated. But whit the help of friends like you guys in the states we (hopefully) won't need an other d-day

The removal is ironic, and Geert's point is well-taken and now proved.

The truth is that "Fitna" will be flooting around the internet, since this is the superinformation highway and there are many sources out there.

I'm very sad about LiveLeak pulling the video and then replacing it with a dhimmi-like apology. But if the safety and security of LiveLeak staff members was compromised by the media (who's side are THEY on?) then LiveLeak did what it had to do. I guess it's easy for most of us to sit safely behind our computers.

I do feel better knowing brave people like you, RS, and Michelle Malkin, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Walid Shoebat, Brigitte Gabriel, Daniel Pipes, and countless others who deserve more recognition for their courage are on the frontlines of our latest Crusade.

That's exactly what I was just thinking. My ancestors fought in every war going back to the civil war. Many, many people fought and died for our right of free speech. We owe it to all of them and to our children to fight this BS.

I have a hard time criticizing LiveLink, when the lives of their employees were threatened. What's important is that they posted FITNA. Once the film was on the internet Muslims can't stop it and they will have to live with this film being shown again and again for years and years to come.FITNA has already gone viral, there are numerous copies on Youtube and I have download two copies today. Short of shutting down the internet and confiscating millions of computers, Muslims cannot kill FITNA.It would have been much less damaging to Islam had the film premiered as scheduled been seen by a few thousand people and eventually made its way to dvd.Now the film is out on the internet forever, has gone viral with many more people having seen it. One Youtube link already has almost 200,000 view.We also have that added bonus that each Muslim threat only serves to prove Wilder's point.Thank you LiveLink for showing FITNA.

I have a hard time criticizing LiveLink, when the lives of their employees were threatened.

It quite obviously went further than they had expected. They took the brunt of carrying it through the first 24 hours, which was important. They deserve praise for doing that. What broke them was publication of individual employee details. That's seriously bad style from whoever did that.

They probably learned another lesson about the Religion of Peace, too.

The movie is out. No pixels got hurt (yet).

Would anyone like to guess just how many hundreds of thousands of people have done exactly that?

And then, how many hundred thousand copies, whether electronic (sent down the mail/ seeded) or personally presented in CD format, will be merrily changing hands, in all the Lands of the Infidels?

I see this as the headstone of the West. Way too dramatic. We're moving ahead in public awareness at a pace we never dreamt of just a few years ago. Yes, lots of problems are unsolved, but we see them with much greater clarity, and much greater awareness in the general public, than we did back then. Being critical of Islam used to be a fringe movement, now it's taking central stage. Which is good.

Many politicians, however - and that includes the Danish PM - were not doing well, not at all. It's the civil society that rocks ahead, not our leaders.

I put out an essay Switch off that PlayStation! about the importance of the civil society for democracy, and why democracy is much too important to be left in the hands of professionals. The weakness of our politicians supports my thesis - democracy means 'ruled by the public', and that's us, not our politicians.

Robert Spencer and others have truly put their lives at risk. Robert even has his picture on this site. Live Leak has a duty to their employees who may not be so courageous.

Most of you, like me, hide behind the anonymity of this site and others like it. I am not going to call anyone a coward. You other brave, fearless, and un-named commenters should do the same.

If I believed that my comments would get my wife or children or grandchildren harmed, I would find another method to express my outrage. It is very easy for some people to hide in Undisclosedlocationland and throw out names; I will not stoop so low in this instance.

Seriously - I think they did all that could be expected of them in getting the movie out.

One more thing, Live Leak posted the true reasons for removing it. They did not hide behind some vague statement using words like hate and racism. Give them credit for stating exactly what the problem was.

It's good, BTW, that LiveLeak publishes the real reason for taking it down, namely threats from the adherents of the Religion of Peace. No silly excuses about 'provocative movie' or the other crap our politicians come up with.

It's not ideal, but I'm OK with it.

I also don't blame LiveLeak for taking Fitna down. As some other posters have said, they hosted the movie for the first 24 hours and that way, ensured that it will be seen and circulated. Does anyone have any information on who actually leaked the names of some of the employees to the media? Where was this published?

I am not saying it is a big deal, because, you can find it everywhere on the net now, so I understand people who say "why risk it?". However, at some point an organized body (not just one poor guy making a stand) has to make a stand and put up the "black flag". If muslims can scare Live Leak this time (they will do it again and again) and then they will be like youtube.

If people keep getting scared then soon there will be no place left to hide. Live Leak should have known what this would mean. I am glad they told the truth as to why they took it down (which in itself says alot), but that is not a victory.

I agree with Roxanne that LiveLeak did its job by getting the film on the internet, and that once online, it's unstoppable. Therefore, regardless of whether LiveLeak chose to be defiant or not, it doesn't matter - while Mohammedans may be successful against well organized institutions and companies, they are absolutely powerless when confronted by random individuals worldwide. By now, there have probably been thousands of downloads, and there can be thousands of websites not linked in any way to Google (YouTube, Blogger), Yahoo!, et al.

I agree with Robert that it does not bode well for Western civilization that while the Mohammedans are prepared to put their lives on the line, we aren't. However, in this particular case, I don't think it was essential for the reason mentioned above. If most (if not all) of Western society was in the same page as most JWers, then it might be reasonable to expect LiveLeak employees to stand defiant, since they wouldn't be any different from the rest of society. But when the rest of the population is not where we are, how fair is it to expect LiveLeak to have other standards (unless they happened to be an organization like JihadWatch, FaithFreedom, MEMRI or something similar)?

For those who want their own copy of "Fitna," it's now available for download via BitTorrent. That's likely to be a higher quality copy than anything you can get from YouTube.

My attitude has always been that if anybody on earth ever lays a hand on a decent law-abiding American citizen, that's an act of aggression against America and should be met with a forceful response from the U.S. government. But that's not how things are done today, in this oil-thirsty world.

I agree with you, but the original criticism came from Robert - not of LiveLeak in particular, but Western society at large. I agree with you that most of us aren't suicidal, and are only doing what we are doing as long as we know that we are safe behind the privacy of our own computers.

The LiveLeak statement reminds me of the statement by the Boston Phoenix, which once published a reason for not publishing the Danish cartoons - namely fear. Of course, their response was somewhat spurious due to their claim that they also wanted to respect their Mohammedan readership. In this case, LiveLeak just bluntly stated what they were up against as they took that decision.

I noted 2 days ago that subtlety will be lost on the general populace at large, so I'm glad the film itself is out. There has been no coverage so far of the movie in the MSM, but hopefully, the Mohammedans will escalate their rage and draw attention to the movie, which is so far minimal.

Today's battles are shaping up to be more up close and personal; more 'old school' if you will. As much as I appreciate the individual businessman's concern about what's good for business and the politician's concern about what makes good politics, they'll both eventually learn that 7th century religious law and custom is good for neither. They'll either learn on their own, or they'll be taught in the harsh classroom of reality.

I admit it's pretty frustrating to hear politicians today say: "words, just words…" It seems they'll get the chance to live up to their own lofty rhetoric soon enough. Ultimately though, it will be individual Americans and other Westerners, just as it was for earlier generations, who decide what it will be: liberty or death.

Liberty requires freedom of speech, and liberty is never established without courage and sacrifice. Any threat against God-given liberty is in fact a declaration of war.

Several years ago I went to the 8th Air Force Museum outside Savannah and just off I95. I wondered as I was going through it whether our nation had the character and bravery to mount the kind of effort we mounted individually and as a country during WW2. The West has had freedom as a birth right, most of us can not remember living without freedom.

The people that hosted Fitna never considered, it never entered their minds, that freedom required blood to win it, and to hold onto it. Freedom is not free, but that was also not considered.

They now know better.

Also, do not think a computer screen, and a smart terminal gives you complete safety, no matter what happens, or that you say "they" could never find you, it could never happen.

Bull. Thats what the hosts of Fitna was thinking, it was not somthing "they" had to worry about.

When are we going to stop inviting potential enemies into the country and placing them in government and military positions that give them the ability to harm us. Arm yourselves. Look how long the world waited the first time the muslims pushed across Europe. Look how long the world waited when Hitler rolled across Europe. And the Japanese across Asia. Of course the Christian world is going to wait. Look at the appeasement by Pope Benedict toward the muslim world. But this time the muslims were smart. Look up any immigration history on any western country since the 1960s and you can see how many muslims have immigrated to Canada, the US, across Europe, Africa and Asia. They have already conquered more area than both the first muslim wars and Hitler together. They have infiltrated our political systems, our societies, and have begun to influence our ways life all around the world. I hope we come to our senses soon. If we do not remove them they will remove us and our way of life.

What is their Pious excuse for doing nothing?

While agreeing with Robert Spencer, especially as he is living what he preaches and does not cave in, may I say just this in regard to LiveLeak's removing of FITNA:
unlike a certain American company, who removed the announcement of FITNA before the film was even publicised, they had the courage to show it.

There are proportionally more Muslims living in the UK than in the USA - and they, that 'home-grown' product of Muslim preachers of hate, have shown (7/7) that they have no compunction to act.
The hateful (in both meanings of the word!) Muslims who did the unspeakable atrocity of 9/11 were not American citizens.

So the situation for the personell of LiveLeak is a bit different.

If you want to accuse companies of caving in, then direct your ire at netoworksolutions: they could have shown FITNA with no difficulties, as such threats would have been dealt with in the USA in the proper way - in GB its is indeed the politicians and the top commanders of the police, the justitiary and above all the media who have created a situation such that 'hate crimes' announced by Muslims are a sign to accomodate them, not stand up to them.

The people themselves do think differently - in spite of eleven years of leftist political correctness!

Read that third sentence again - the British government is destructive of liberty because it will not secure the right of the British people to have freedom of speech.

In the United States it has been declared that our liberty, and therefore our freedom of speech, is a natural right which comes from God; and it can be defended by each individual American by his or her natural God-given right to self-defense i.e.: by bearing arms. If the American government will not participate in this defense of God-given liberty we are empowered by the Declaration of Independence to alter or abolish it.

In Britain and in the rest of Europe and in Canada, liberty is a privilege granted by their government or by their constitutions. Such a watered down and government-derived form of liberty can be revoked, or as in the current case with LiveLeak, it can just be ignored.

I understand their concern for their employees -- sure. The employees didn't sign up for this.

But if Americans and Westerners and all people who are threatened by the global jihad and Islamic supremacism aren't willing to give their lives for this cause, then all is lost.

Because the jihadists certainly are willing to give their lives for their cause. For them, no price is too high.

And if any price is too high for us, then ultimately all we will have to pay is jizya.

All of this sounds reasonable and I am with you on this one as well, but really it is nothing more than brave bravado and empty words.

Why?

Because we have leaders who "...get angry every time they heard the words islamic terrorist..." as Tony Blair said; we have leaders who are "...proud of the islamic men and women who serve in the armed forces and my administration..." as Mr. Bush said; and so on.

The central fact is that the islamists are POWERLESS really -- even in the battlefield!!!

(They win there because western leaders refuse to allow their troops to do their job fully and completely -- and destroy the enemy, which can't even be named!)

However, the islamists apparent "power" has be vouchsafed by Western leaders and magnified disproptionately to such an exalted state, that the nightmare has become reality!

The real price that MUST be paid is to take out the islamic agents misrepresenting the people of the West by every legal means available.

There will be "blood in the streets" for certain if shariah continues to take hold, and "blood in the streets" if you quell the riots, and "blood in the streets" even if you simply prefer to be left alone -- because islam will not leave you alone!

Get the "leaders" out of office through impeachment; make sure they are tried before justices willing to bring them up on charges of high treason, and be willing to carry out the sentence.

Failing something along those lines of legality, you best get your jizya ready or prepare to be murdered in the nefarious name of allah.

I came to me why it is wise for most of us to conceal our identity in these discussion groups. I am not willing to "pull the trigger" or "slit the throat" of any of my political enemies.

I would only do that in self-defense, or in defense of an innocen person nearby, or in defense of our great nation. Our Totalitarian Islamist enemies are willing to do it - and not just in self-defense.

It makes perfect sense to name yourself only if you are a terrorist, or as a good guy who has a very strong means of self-defense and family-defense.
