TEHRAN (AFP) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused the United States on Tuesday of using the September 11, 2001 attacks as a "pretext" to launch invasions and cast doubt on the accepted version of the terror strikes.
"On the pretext of this incident a major military operation was launched and oppressed Afghanistan was attacked. Tens of thousands of people have been killed until now," he said in a speech broadcast on state television.
"Poor Iraq was attacked. According to official figures... one million people have been killed," he said in the speech marking Iran's day of nuclear technology.
He appeared to cast doubt on the official version of the attacks, saying the names of those killed had never been published and questioning how the planes had hit the towers of the World Trade Centre in New York.
"An event was created in the name of the attack against the twin towers. We were all sad. It was said that 3,000 people were killed," Ahmadinejad said.
"But the names of the 3,000 people were never published and nobody was able to respond to the main question, which is how is it possible that with the best radar systems and intelligence networks the planes could crash undetected into the towers."
Baloney. And four more victims' remains were just identified this week.
They want nukes? Maybe we should give them a few one day.
Of the one million people that have been killed??? how many were helped by Iran? What names are being read every Sept 11? Radar saw it but which operators believed what they were seeing that day?
Believe that Ahmadinejad has been by the well to long.
Another reason to be glad this guy wasn't allowed to visit Ground Zero. He shouldn't have been allowed into the US, but that's another infuriating story.

That September 11 victims site is truly invaluable for grieving relatives and any who wish to lay their heartfelt condolences toward victims,mostly strangers. I vividly recall the story of Barbara Olson, the CNN commentator,who perished on flight 77 which crashed into the Pentagon. Naturally,if one scrolls through some of the Muslim names on the list(primarily the victims at the towers)they will find a litany of responses from fellow Muslims consoling us all that "Muslims didn't do this,terrorists did" along with the old verse about "the death of one innocent is like the death of all mankind" (no mention of the abrogation by later verses) or my personal favorite: "It had to happen. They had to go. It's a loss though,we will miss them. There are no accidents. They are no victims. It's the way the Lord's system works."
Decorum prevents listing the actual victim's name such remorseful da'wa sentiments appear under,but it certainly won't require an ardent investigation.
Something I'd like to see, next September 11th.
Every church in New York with a bell, all together, tolls the passing bell for every victim who died in the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and Flight 93 (but not for the murderers): 'nine tailors make a man', and one stroke for each year of the person's life. Given the number of victims you'd have to start on the previous day; timing it so as to finish at daybreak on Sept 11th.
Then, at every church with a complete ring of bells, led by the Cathedral of St John the Divine, the relays of expert change-ringers take over and ring relentlessly through nine hours' worth - which in D L Sayers' book The Nine Tailors is 15 840 - of Kent Treble Bob Majors, that is, five Kent Treble Bob Majors to celebrate the life of each victim. Webcast the whole thing for good measure, with the names and faces of the victims scrolling slowly past as the ringing proceeds.
It would be LOUD, and impossible to ignore. And it would drive any jihadi-/sharia-minded Muslims in New York c.r.a.z.y, because under the dhimma the ringing of church bells is forbidden.
Madrid, London, Russia [for the victims of Beslan] and Australia [for those murdered at Bali] might consider using a similar method to commemorate their own victims of major jihad terror raids. (I have not forgotten the victims of the Mumbai train bombings, but since church bells don't have the same culturaI meaning in India as they have in 'christendom' I leave it to the Indians to work out the best and noisiest 'in your face' way of commemorating their dead and defying the jihadis - not but what the major non-Muslim communities who have suffered massive jihad terror assaults, might choose to remember not only their own dead, but to stage events in solidarity with others).
I have no idea how to even begin to go about getting something like this to happen. I don't have the ear of church or community leaders. But I can throw the idea into the arena, here, in hopes that others with more clout may take it up.
