CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt ordered the confiscation of a special edition of the German magazine Der Spiegel about Islam on Tuesday that the government says insults the Muslim Prophet Mohammad, Egypt's state news agency MENA said.Information Minister Anas el-Feki said the decision "comes in the context of defending Islamic values and standing firmly against those who try to insult the prophet, the Islamic faith, and religions generally," MENA reported.
"We are for freedom of the press, but we cannot permit religions to be insulted," MENA quoted Feki as saying.
It said that Feki had ordered copies of the March 25 special edition confiscated because it contained "a number of images and phrases insulting the prophet, peace be upon him."
MENA said that the edition, whose cover it said bore the headline "Allah in the West," included paragraphs quoting a "German orientalist" as saying that Islam called for violence and terrorism.
Shock horror! Why, no one, but no one, would ever get the idea that Islam has anything to do with violence and terrorism were it not for those pesky Orientalists!

The SPIEGEL has been qite vehemnt in its condemnation of FITNA, so its just a nice piece of justice that they themselves get banned.
However, one columnist has spoken for FITNA - and today there is a feature by Ibn Warraq:

The is no freedom of the press when being offended is viewed as a crime.

I am SO TIRED of the inevitable "but".
Freedom of speech is great, BUT (when you speak ill of Islam, freedom doesn't apply).
Freedom of the press is wonderful, BUT (when you print cartoons {cartoons for goshsakes!} that might cause a laugh at ol'Mo's expense, well, forget the freedom part).
Freedom of religion is a good thing, BUT (we can't be letting Muslims reject Islam, now, can we? In that case, freedom is a BAD thing).
Tell Islam to get its BUTs out of my civilization.
Robert, please use the 'ticking turban Mohammed' cartoon image for every story like this. The old maxim that a picture tells a thousand words has never been more appropriately employed. And since he (Mo) is the prime inspriation for all this rage, it's only fair to make illustrate the point in a way no one can ignore.

I feel what he really means is he cannot permit is religion to be criticized or held up for observation where people not involved in the cult of Islam must see it for the farce it is

How can anyone be accused of insulting old mo? It's like being accused of insulting Stalin or Hitler. The facts about this man muslims call a "prophet" are there for all to see. If he wasn't a monster then his followers wouldn't use violence to silence criticism, they would let it run off like water off a ducks back. I follow no religion but I am reminded that you don't see Christians murdering people when someone insults Jesus.
Violence is always the first resort of those who know they are wrong. It stops them having to take part in an argument they know they can never win.
