How is it that so many Islamic scholars end up becoming Misunderstanders of Islam? Anyway, it will be interesting to see how this shakes out: will Sharia win or lose? Muslim Scholars in Algeria say a government ban on pictures of veiled women in passport photographs runs counter to Sharia law.The Society of Algerian Muslim Scholars has denounced the ban which also applies to bearded men.
The organisation says the veil and beard are part of Muslim tradition which cannot be outlawed.
The society says it issued a fatwa against the ban after receiving hundreds of complaints.
Prime Minister Abdelazeez Belkhadem is reported to have received complaints from the public urging him to overturn the ban.
The BBC's Arab affairs analyst Magdi Abdelhardi says it is an example of a modern secular state coming under fire from a resurgent Islamism....

Hey, that's okay. The proper response from immigration officers in threatened countries would be to simply say: "I'm sorry, Ma'am this doesn't look like you. Could you step over here, while we verify your identity?" Then, proceed to do whatever is necessary to identify the Muslimah in question, up to and including DNA matching.
No exemplar for a DNA match? Gee, that's too bad. No identification, no entry into the country. Pretty simple.
Can't afford the plane ticket home? Gee, that's too bad. Detention and deportation are the solutions to that difficulty.

Maybe there is equality between the sexes in Islam after all. It seems that both men and women must cover the lower half of the face. Well, the men can do that by letting their beards grow, but the women must make do with a fake beard, otherwise known as a veil.
Either that, or a lot of Moslem women have beards, and cover them up with a veil out of embarrassment; and the rest of Moslem women (the non-bearded ones) wear the veil out of sympathy for their hirsute sisters, and to keep the veil from becoming the sign of a bearded woman.

Well then Sharia is alive and well in Canada. My wife who works at Costco saw one woman last week come in for a passport photo. All that could be seen were her eyes. My wife asked about it and was told "that's their religion!" (why would you ask, bigot)
The Passport Canada website says:
Photos must show a full head without any head covering, unless it is worn for religious beliefs or medical reasons. However, both edges of the face must be clearly visible.
There is a photo of a woman in a headscarf and veil, as an example of an unacceptable picture. Somewhat confusing, actually. I guess it's okay to cover the head, but not the face.

Then I hope the Gov't rejects the photo taken! They must.
Maybe they should use those novelty pictures that when turned a little, change appearance (clothes disappear, etc.) Veil, no veil. Beard, no beard. Just shift the angle you look at the passport picture.
Look how many misunderstanders of Islam cover their faces with ski masks, balaclavas and bandanas when demonstrating, raging or just committing general acts of terrorism. Equality for the sexes as ebonystone said. One covers their face so they won't shame their men, the other covers their face because they are shameful cowards.
As there is no mention of flying in the Koran, I would assume that air travel is un-Islamic. So this should not be an issue.

I thought international law states that a passport photo must show the face? I guess that Shar'ai law is greater than international law.
This "veiled passport photo idea" is a bit of Islamic economic genius!
One photographc image could be re-used for every woman in the country!

Just don't issue passports to Muslims fanatic enough to disregard these clear, obvious and non-discriminatory rules.
There is every chance that these are the people we would prefer stay in their own countries and perform their 'religious duties' (including surprise demolitions of UN buildings) in their own countries, not here.
