Can't get elected unless you adhere to State Dogma. "Boris defends stance on Islam," from the Chronicle Live (thanks to Twostellas):
Tory London mayoral candidate Boris Johnson was forced to defend his stance on Islam, insisting he believed it was a "religion of peace".Mr Johnson has been criticised for an article he wrote in the wake of the 7/7 London terror attacks in 2005 claiming "Islam is the problem".
But Mr Johnson said the problem was extremists taking the words of the Koran out of context.
He said: "The problem is people who wrench out of context quotes from the holy book of Islam, the Koran, and use it to inspire evil in men's hearts.
"That is a fact that few serious people would deny and we need to tackle the extremists."
Indeed, but few serious people also have noticed that this much-discussed true, peaceful context of the Qur'an's violent verses has never actually been produced, or that Islamic theological tradition tends to favor a more violent understanding.
8:41 And know that whatever ye take as spoils of war, lo! a fifth thereof is for Allah, and for the messenger and for the kinsman ..
Peace!

booty is the driving force.
Taking the violent, intolerant, terrorist dogmas of the Koran "out of context" is like taking Jeffrey Daumer's cannibalism out of context.
Another self-serving liar. Party of Churchill?
Boris Johnson, career buffoon and general object of fun, suddenly realising that to get elected in Islamic London, he suddenly has to tow the official line and pretend he can be serious all at once...
Having power is more important than having principles.
Bank accounts are more important than the truth.
Here endeth the lesson.
Who would have guessed that Big Brother would be Muhammad and his buddies? But it's happening in the UK, as the Muslim population there grows.
I think this is just a case of Competitive Stupidity and Selfishness, to see who can get the most out of Islam for personal and short-term advantage.
Boris Johnson is one of the most famously tactless, or maybe just outspoken, people in Britain's public life. I was impressed when he finally seemed to have bravely latched onto an important concept, but now he has lost it again, and he has lost me too.
Ken Livingstone has a kind of excuse, because the last few years have revealed him to be a Very Unpleasant Person, from whom no good can be expected.
Brian Paddick might be the least-worst of the three candidates, except that as Britain's most public gay ex-policeman, who has been quoted as saying "I care passionately about individual liberty", I would have expected him to be much firmer on Islam, and to understand it as a threat rather than an opportunity.
Depressing and disappointing.
anything for votes.
Boris Johnson said
Here in the States, Tom Tancredo ran for President with a fairly accurate view of Islam. Unfortunately, he was one of the first candidates forced to withdraw, due to lack of support. He will be greatly missed in the coming general election, but he stuck to his beliefs. The general public is apparently not ready yet, but one day self-deception will be removed as an option, and we'll be forced to choose between facing the truth or facing sharia.
He's an idiot to be have backtracked. Nonetheless, he can backtrack again. But first vote for him. Make him Mayor of London (not Lord Mayor, yes, that's a different thing).
And even though Lord Mayor is a different thing, I am given to understand, from Mayor, of London, then there will be plenty of time to tell the elected Boris Johnson to "turn again, Boris Johnson,Lord Mayor of London."
Johnosn is hardly ideal. He's flighty. But he'll have to do. Ignorant armies all over the Western world are clasing by day and night. The hapless citizens must choose the slightly less ignorant, the slightly more hopeful, the ones who "show potential." It's all we can do.
And the words Boris Johnson wrote about Islam a few years ago were then exactly right. Possibly he can be made to sit still long enough to commit them to memory, and then to make them the object of his own renewed study. and to discover, to his delight, that they do not date. Let him be re-acquainted and re-impressed, with his own previous self.
And let Redken return to his shampoos of yore.
So this Johnson is kind of the McCain candidate in their Mayoral race in London.. let's hope that the few good signs that I've seen from McCain recently don't turn out to be fakes.
He started to make sense of the econmy recently for one and he spoke of ISLAMIC terrorism. which is better than what we can expect from HUSSEIN OSAMA.
And Hitlery.. who knows.. that could go either way..
Our best hope is that McCain knows a little something and he isn't letting on too much so as not to scre anyon eoff.
I would liek to see him steer clear fo the SOWdis. And pick Sue Myrick instead of Condhimmi already!

It's not surprising that you believe there are only three candidates, given the lack of media coverage for the other seven. The full list is:
Richard Barnbrook (British National Party)
Gerard Batten (UKIP)
Sian Berry (Green Party)
Alan Craig (Christian Choice)
Lindsey German (Left List)
Boris Johnson (Conservative Party)
Ken Livingstone (Labour Party)
Winston McKenzie (Independent)
Matt O'Connor (English Democrats)
Brian Paddick (Liberal Democrats)
One more thing: Boris Johnson had a Muslim grandfather.
You know things are getting bad when even non-muslims start claiming verses of the koran have been "taken out of context".
Some statistics for you:
There are about 1 million Muslims living in London. Of these I would guess that 200,000 are eligible to vote in the Mayoral elections. Now, I could be way out here and the figure might be as low as 100,000.
In the 2004 London Mayoral election the first choice votes cast were:
Ken Livingstone (Labour) - 685,541
Steve Norris (Conservative) - 542,423
Clearly, 200,000 votes would have decided the result (assuming Norris didn't get the Muslim bloc vote, which is highly unlikely!)
Fast forward to 2008 and the two leading contenders - Ken and Boris - are neck and neck. Even 50,000 Muslim votes could decide it.
To be a kiss-ass is one thing but to be a Muslim kiss-asser is low, very low dude!
watling,
I was aware, albeit vaguely, that there were other candidates, and so I should have said:
"Brian Paddick might be the least-worst of THOSE three candidates".
I cannot help noticing the absence of a Muslim name in your list ?
But Muslims have got Ken, so why bother ? After all, "there is no point in keeping a dog, and barking yourself".

I understand what you're saying, but... The 50,000 Muslim votes could decide it only because the non-Muslim votes are split evenly. What I mean is, Livingstone does what he does, and is who he is, and he still gets a large percentage of Londoners' votes. That is the part that is hard to believe.

Livingstone is pro-multiculturalism. There are a lot of immigrants in London. Most were attracted there by the prospect of employment/benefits and a better standard of living than whichever African/Muslim hell-hole dictatorship they escaped from. They weren't necessarily attracted to London by English/British culture because many of them have carried on where they left off in their own countries.
e.g. Somalis chewing qat, Muslims going to mosques, oppressing women and demanding preferential treatment, Albanians running prostitution rings, Romanians scamming hole-in-the-wall cash machines, Nigerians committing fraud etc.
Ken is happy for them to live according to the cultures of their own countries, therefore they'll vote for him.
There aren't too many Londoners left in London.
